About Lloyd & Jane Wickett

I was born in Old Town, Maine and graduated from the Husson University of Bangor. In the summers I worked on route 95 cutting trees through the Waterville area and then driving truck to pay my way through college. I spent the next 38 years working for a major retailer and traveled the world to purchase products. I now live in Florida but my roots are still in Maine where I was born.

Lloyd & Jane Wickett purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Lloyd & Jane Wickett chose Maine

I purchased this property from my cousin as we lived across the street from each other as we grew up. She could no longer give the property attention. I totally refurbished everything while keeping the size as it was due to restriction placed on property close to the water. You can no longer build on the water with a large cement pad as we have on this property.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is where my wife and I can finally find some peace and quiet from everyone. The looking glass mirror of the lake in the morning, the cool breeze from the water on a warm summer day or the dancing moonlight on the water at night make this a special time in our lives. Hot dogs on the open fire, burgers on the grill or fresh lobster in the pot are all great memories that last Life is memories and this is where you make them.

Charming lakefront experience!

  • 4 of 5

The property's location is the star! You can't get more lakeside than this. With a large patio and walk in (but rocky!) lake entry the days spent outside lounging were the best. We traveled over Labor Day and the weather was perfect. A reasonable drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor made for an ideal day trip. The cottage is on the small side but cozy. With 4 adults it was perfect; any more would have been cramped. The owners and caretaker were both responsive and accessible. It was a great weekend all around.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. Pictures are updated so people can get a good look at what we rent when we can not be there ourselves. It is a special place as a new cottage can not be built as close to the water and the older buildings can not be increased by more than 30% with many restrictions as well. We love it and appreciate those who appreciate a quiet beautiful place for R & R. Thank You

Wonderful, quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and charming cottage with lots of great amenities. We enjoyed the lakefront patio and used the outdoor fireplace every night while watching the sunset. Nice big gas grill, canoes, and fishing rods all added to the experience. Would highly recommend this property!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your five star rating. This is our personal space that we share with others when we can not be there. It always makes us smile when others enjoy this property as much as we do. Life is short and we all need to make memories; that will last a lifetime. Lloyd and Jane

Cute little spot

  • 2 of 5

We had some glitches with our stay but the host was very gracious about accommodating our issues. This would make a nice little quiet place to get away to relax from traveling

Owner's Response: In conversation with our manager, there was a misunderstanding on the length of time from Arcadia to the cottage. In season with traffic it may take longer than typical to travel from Arcadia . The low rating does not reflect the property, just the guest experience with travel. This rating is extremely harsh and not justified. This property has always received high ratings. Please review other ratings and comment.

A slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Our family vacation was fantastic at this beautiful house! The house has good amenities and the owners are very gracious in what they provide to get you settled a bit- dishes, linens, canoes, washer/dryer, we really just had to buy groceries. Tiffany who assists with the property was also amazing. She was super helpful with recommendations and the perfect resource for the inside scoop on tips for getting around. We didn't want to leave- thanks for everything!

Great summer rental

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time. The cottage was great and we had 9 people in it including an infant. The only downside was the steps leading up to the loft, very steep, need basically to go down on your butt. Fell down the steps, but again that was my only downside. I would definately do it again.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed our piece of paradise and would return. Not sure about the 9 people as we have a limit of 7 on our web page. The stairs go to the loft area for sleeping and has a hand rail; first comment on this we have had. it does provide a cozy sleeping area with a great view to the lake. I hope to enjoy the cottage soon.

Peaceful house on nice lake

  • 4 of 5

The property is accurately described in the listing. It was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with pot, pans and the like. I was slightly disappointed that the grill and some of the outside furniture was put away, but it was December. Overall I was very pleased with the property. I'm 6' 1" tall, and I want to warn anyone who is as tall (or taller) than I am that the ceilings and light fixtures are pretty low and I found myself running into overhead objects sometimes.

Owner's Response: The cottage was closed for the season when the rental was entered. Did not expect the guest to want to be outside when temps were in the 30's at night. Tiffany would have been happy to uncover the grill, chairs, etc. if she had been asked. First review less than five stars. Will work to improve, thanks.

Sunrise is very early in Maine with water on the lake looking like a mirror. This cottage sits at the waters edge with a sandy area to walk into the water for swimming or just splashing around. Pushaw Lake is 9 miles long and 1 mile wide with several islands. The cottage has been refurbished with all knotty pine walls on the top two floors. Wonderful views of the lake from all floors. If you are a night owl, the view of the moon dancing on the water is unbelievable. A wood burning fire pit and plenty of wood available for the famous Maine produced hot dogs, marshmallow or smores. Cook your own lobsters with the lobster pot or fire up the grill for some great burgers. A canoe is provided with life jackets and paddles. Fish for bass, pickerel, white perch and northern pike. If you had enough of the quiet time you can be entertained with a number of options. 15 minutes will get you to the factory of Old Town Canoe, famous for canoes and kayaks worldwide. Minutes away is the University of Maine at Orono with sports and other activities depending on the time of year. A short distance away is the Lenard mills Museum with 1800's machinery in action. 20 minutes will put you into the city of Bangor where Stephen King lives; can you find his home? Bangor mall and many surrounding stores and restaurants to fill your needs. Hollywood Casinos for the gambler and right across the street is the new Cross Center for entertaining. There are many bands that play the river front concert through the summer. Less than an hour and you can enjoy Bar Harbor, Arcadia National Park and Booth bay Harbor with lobster everywhere.

The cottage is equipped with everything you need except your clothes and your food. Gas stove, refrigerator and gas furnace if needed. 300 ft well with great water. A queen size bed on the 1st and third floors with a futon that makes into a full size on the second floor. All linens cooking utensils, coffee pot and glassware are provided. Toaster, microwave, washer/dryer front load, Basic cable TV with internet is provided as well as blue-ray and DVD. All equipment is new.
