Slave quarter bungalow with courtyard in ideal French Quarter location. The house is on Chartres St. between Ursuline and Governor Nichols in a portion of the FQ you could describe as quieter and more residential in feeling. SLEEPING: Upstairs has (1)Queen bedroom,(1) King size bedroom with kitchen and bath. Downstairs has living room Queen sofabed/pullout and (1) queen size bedroom, kitchen and bath. There are (2) baths, one upstairs and one downstairs. Flat screen tv's/dvd's in bedrooms. Flat screen tv in LR.

This is a no smoking property both inside and outside in courtyard.

Enter from Chartres street through secured iron gate leading you down a short walkway which opens onto your secluded courtyard. The main house at front of property is occupied by 2 full time tenants but presents no intrusion on your privacy. Your two story slave quarter bungalow awaits you for a magical French Quarter living experience. Tropical landscape and wrought iron patio furniture create a restful, romantic, Southern atmosphere.

Downstairs has French doors in each room opening onto the courtyard. Here you will find a queen bedroom and en-suite bath with door connecting to living room with queen sofa , old brick wall and high ceilings culminating with a small open kitchen. With slate floors, oriental carpet, and comfortable furnishings, this is a charming spot for an indoor dinner or entertaining area that can be extended by opening French doors onto the courtyard.

UPSTAIRS connects to the lower level by exterior staircase ONLY which takes you to full length balcony along the length of the upstairs areas. There is no interior stair. Again, French doors are at every room and open onto the balcony overlooking the courtyard below. A kitchen, breakfast area and bathroom are at one end of floor plan upstairs. Interior hallway connects the two bedrooms, one Queen size the other King size. New bathroom renovations have recently been completed.

Begin your mornings with a short walk to Café Du Monde for beignets and coffee. Stroll along the French Market just one block from your Chartres St. address, enjoying the sites, smells, and sounds of life along the banks of the Mississippi River. Many of French Quarter’s finest restaurants, neighborhood deli’s and local's restaurants are all but a few steps from where you call home during your New Orleans adventure.

Live like a local !

  • 5 of 5

We were here to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday with our two daughters and their husbands. The rooms were very comfortable; and everyone really enjoyed the beautiful courtyard for morning coffee and evening cocktails. We walked everywhere. Ate at our favorite restaurant Galatoire's for Friday brunch, and other favorties are Acme Oyster House, Bayona, Irene's, The Grill, Stanley's, and took Uber to Cochon. It was a wonderful place to stay and added to our celebration. Looking forward to staying here in the future.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 stayed for a weekend at this rental which was like two separate apartments, one upstairs and one down. It was clean and beautifully decorated with comfortable beds, plenty of linens, and the perfect location. We especially enjoyed the beautiful courtyard. It was a quiet secluded spot just minutes away from the French Quarter and so much more.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this VRBO. We were in New Orleans for my daughters wedding. The wedding was at St. Mary's church which is directly across the street from the property. The house was in a perfect location for us. We were impressed with the amenities and updates - great quality mattresses, sheets and towels. There are actually two separate living areas with a large courtyard and so private in an upscale area of the French Quarter. No car is needed. We took a taxi from the airport and then walked everywhere. Several family members staying with us had never been to New Orleans so we had to show them everything in the short four days we were there. We loved being close to all the action and felt safe and comfortable, late at night, walking back from Bourbon Street and Frenchman Street. The property was so quiet - had no trouble sleeping late in the morning and with the shutters closed, we could not even tell it was morning.

All emails regarding the property were promptly responded to. I would highly recommend this VRBO!

Perfect for extended family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 plus 2 grandparents (80+) had a fabulous time here. The distance to French Market, streetcar, Jackson Square, Frenchmen Street, grocery store, deli, and tasty restaurants were all just a few blocks from the house. Listened to Delfeayo Marsalis at Snug Harbor on Frenchmen - this is a must if you're here on Wed - one of the few places our teens could go. This is a secure and quiet residence with every amenity you would need. We had a rent car but didn't use it - the streetcar or Uber (recommended) were primarily used to get to places that were not within walking distance. Sonny was very kind and was prompt with all questions that I had. We all had an excellent time and hope to be back soon!!

What a stay in New Orleans should be

  • 5 of 5

We have travelled to New Orleans frequently over the years. This former slave quarters space gives you exactly what a stay in New Orleans should - location, ambience, convenience and charm. When we decide to go to New Orleans again, our first call will be to Sonny to check on availability, and we will recommend this place to any friend who asks about New Orleans.

My wife, two grown daughters and their spouses stayed in this lovely space next to the Soniat House. Already on the quieter end of the French Quarter, once you walk through the gate, the noise and activity of the street fades away, and you are able to enjoy yourselves in the courtyard or in the apartment space. You hear the small, pleasant noises of the birds and the bigger sounds of ships' horns and a random calliope nearby on the river. The courtyard gave all of us room to be outside and relax together, sharing wine, cheese and crackers in the afternoon and drinks after dinner at night.

We went to three fantastic places for dinner (Luke, Cuchon and R'evolution), and to two great lunch places (Deanie's and Felix's). We also went to the New Orleans School of Cooking for our favorite cooking class and lunch in the Quarter. We toured St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. And we had a private parade through the Quarter as a birthday present to our daughter, with the Storyville Stompers and a police escort to Jackson Square. The apartment is so convenient that we could walk to all of these great places.
