This lovely log cabin, 2 miles from Wisp Ski, and 1/2 mile from lake, which is great for year-round enjoyment. Be close to all attractions and feel like you're in a secluded hideaway. Year-round Maryland vacation activities abound in Deep Creek Lake Maryland.
In the mountains of Western Maryland in Garrett County, Deep Creek Lake offers recreation and relaxation year-round. Deep Creek Lake Maryland has something for everyone. Activities and things to do include boating, water skiing, hiking, whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River, snow skiing at Wisp Resort, hunting, miniature golf, and championship Maryland vacation golf courses. Five state parks including Swallow Falls State Park which features Swallow Falls and Muddy Creek Falls, Maryland's largest waterfall are a short drive away.
Deep Creek Lake State Park : Most of the parks visitor services are located on State Park Road along the waterfront of Deep Creek Lake. The park includes approximately 1 mile of shoreline on this, Maryland's largest man-made lake. Access is available for fishing, swimming, and boat launching. Several picnic areas offer excellent views of the lake with easy access to the beach and other facilities.
Swallow Falls State Park : This mountain park is located nine miles north of Oakland, Maryland and contains some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery. The Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight. Tall hemlocks dominate the silent woods. The meandering trails through Swallow Falls guide hikers to some of the most breath-taking scenery in Western Maryland.
We are four college roommates that get together every year to reunite and catch up on things. We like to rent a cabin so we can sit and talk in comfort. This place met our needs. Having more than one bathroom was fantastic. Enough rooms that we didn't have to share bedrooms, however we did decide not to use the bedroom in the basement because it just was too many beds for the room. Two of us shared a bedroom that had twin beds. The kitchen was great. It suited our needs. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and relaxing in the hot tub. We spent Friday evening playing pool. (Man do I suck at playing pool anymore but we had a blast!) The only negative I would have was the wifi instructions were not correct so it took us awhile to get on the internet (much needed to share our children's wedding pictures). Sheila was very accommodating and connected us with Verizon even though she was out of town.
Sheila was very accommodating to our arrival and allowed us to get in a bit early which was helpful since we were all traveling from a distance.
The cabin is close to lots of attractions. We found plenty of things to do while staying there. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a clean place to stay with lots of room.
To start off, def have 4x4 vehicles. Especially in the winter. The roads leading to the home are steep-ish climbs and if covered in snow and ice, good luck getting there with a 2-wheel drive vehicle. The emergency routes allow you to get out but they are not guaranteed to be open.
The house itself is great! Spacious, clean, cozy, and with a garage. Close to the resort for ski fun. It's seclusion is nice if you are looking for peace, quiet, and privacy with your group. Fire pit in the back was nice too. Overall, it served our needs pretty well.
Property management could use some tightening though. I asked the owner if propane could be checked in the grill so that we could use it. At first I had a positive response that it would be checked but no further update. I asked a second time with no response. Grill had no propane when we arrived. Would have been nice, since it is advertised as part of the home.
Propane was also close to empty on the outside tanks. Heat was working minimally the last night we were there, not fun in the winter months.
I'd recommend this place, just as long as some of these items would be looked after more closely.
My friends and I had a great time at the cabin. We got snowed in and the hot tub was perfect. It was hard getting the cars out but we did and were able to go snowboarding for a bit. Sheila was great at answering all our needs and questions. She was very helpful.
Had a great time, beatifull cabin. Only wish the weather wood have been colder so Wisp could have been making snow.
4 wheel drive or chains would have definitely required had it snowed.

My family and I had a great time at this cabin over the Labor Day Holiday weekend. The place was beautiful and quiet and secluded, just what we were looking for. The fire pit was great. There were many activities, restaurants, and stores right down off the hill that were very close and convenient. We all said we would come back there again. However, there were a few issues. See below.
1. The air conditioner did not work. We tried everything to get it to work. Luckily it was cool at night but it was still very hot in the cabin.
2. The coffee pot could not be found
3. There were some mouse dropping all over the counter and in the sink
4. There was no trash can in the garage
5. The downstairs was very musty and smelled. I would like to suggest a de-humidifyer.
Sheila, thanks for your cabin for a few days.
The cabin is beautiful inside! We loved the fire pit outside and having the hot tub. It's very private and in the woods, but there are some bars and grocery stores and places to get kayaks or boats within a 10 minute drive.
Deep Creek Lake, Maryland
Other Activities: Our favorite activities include boating on the lake, snow skiing at WISP, Visiting Swallow Falls, and Black Bear Falls.
Our favorite bar especially in the Summer is the Honi-Honi. The WISP resort also has great food and alot of activities including a Zip Line, Mountain Coaster, Dune buggies, and paint ball.
Golf: Wisp Resort Golf and Lodestone.
Golfstyles Magazine named the Wisp Resort Golf Course one of the “100 Must-Play Courses of the Mid-Atlantic.” Designed around the natural contours at the base of Wisp ski slopes, with breathtaking views of the mountains, this 6,700 yard, par 72 championship course ebbs and flows along tree-lined fairways, and past strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.
Ski: Wisp Mountain Resort
With a world renowned energy-efficient snowmaking system and over 100 inches of annual snowfall in Garrett County, Wisp's 132 acres of ski terrain provide snowsport enthusiasts an incredible winter playground. Non-skiers and boarders won't be left out, in fact, they'll have as much trouble deciding what to do next with all that Wisp Resort and the Deep Creek Lake area have to offer: mountain coaster, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, fly fishing and more.
