Cozy, Clean, Comfortable and QUIET.

  • 5 of 5

I don't know where to begin with this property. One word sums up our experience at the Stone Cottage, OUTSTANDING. We truly enjoyed our stay. The location is not a far ride from Stowe, about 8 to 10 minutes. The Stone Cottage is much better than the hotel experience. The master bedroom was very comfortable. The home itself is very quaint and secure. The kitchen was great to have for preparing breakfast and a couple of dinners. We had our three Border Collies with us and they loved the property and surrounding area. Would we go back to the Stone Cottage? ABSOLUTELY! I HIGHLY recommend this property. Thank you Lynn for sharing your home with us. Barbara, thank you for being available to us.

It did not measure up to our other VRBO properties. The date mix/up was very unsettling.

  • 3 of 5

The house was charming with an Irish flavor but could not be cleaned to VRBO standards. The kitchen floor seemed impossible to clean well due to the uneven flag stone installed there. There was dog hair everywhere even after the thorough cleaning the caretaker gave it. There were four soiled areas in the lovely sitting room that appeared to be dog urine. The caretaker was at a great disadvantage because we came the day before she was told by the owners we were coming. Our contract said we were to come on the 5th and the owners told the caretaker we were not coming till the 6th. After a long day of travel, we arrived to the house at 10:00 p.m. and found cleaning supplies and trash cans all over the counters, dirty sheets on the banister, a dirty, smelly refrigerator, and dog hair on every surface, etc.

The owners offered to move us to a nice hotel, but by the time they got hold of us by phone, we were working on a solution to the problem, and decided to carry our stuff in and to find a place to sleep there. We each had clean towels and clean sheets.

The caretaker offered to come right over, but we just wanted to get to sleep.

The next day the caretaker did a complete cleaning as well as she could considering the house condition. The owners returned two nights rent, left us lovely flowers, two bottles of wine and other items.

We found it difficult to manage two upstairs bedrooms with a main floor bathroom. The stairs are very narrow and steep and were the cause of each of the girl nearly falling.

The other set of stairs to the master was also very narrow. There was no connection between the upstairs master and the two single rooms, so I had to go downstairs and through the kitchen to communicate with the two girls. Sadly, the master bath smelled of urine.

Another issue that does not speak well of the house is that the mat in front of the front door is very old and has moss growing on it, and it is uneven to walk on.

I suspect the owners are elderly and find this house overwhelming to care for. They had been there for a month before we arrived and then had to drive to Maryland after they left. They had two dogs with them in the house.

My opinion is that VRBO should do an evaluation of the property insuring that your company is not embarrassed by more experiences like this.

Perfect getaway tucked in to the woods above Stowe

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Stowe on Thursday evening, only to find that our "dog friendly" hotel wasn't in fact so friendly. A frantic search led us to what looked like just what we were after - somewhere with space to ourselves, where we could leave the dog (who is well trained) unattended when we wanted to go out for a run or for dinner.

We quickly spoke with the owner Lynne, who was most accommodating and within an hour had checked out of our hotel and driven over to the Stone Cottage to meet the local property manager Barbara, who was great.

The cottage is everything you would hope for - tucked away in a secluded spot behind many trees. It is as cozy inside as it looks outside - but also very well furnished with all modern conveniences, a great kitchen, two great baths (one w jacuzzi for post ski - or in our case - post run soak), gorgeous formal sitting room, cozy dining/living room area and great back patio and garden. More than we needed but just a treat - for both ourselves - and our dog Boomer - all of us far happier here.

If you are a dog owner, as we are - then rest assured, Lynne understands - there were plenty of dog beds and blankets in the cottage to make a small family of pooches more than cozy. Little touches like the chess board were greatly appreciated too.

The cottage is a few miles (15 mins) drive outside of Stowe - near enough to pop in and get whatever you need and far enough out that you feel like you have the area to yourself. We will be back and will definitely return to the cottage. Great spot - very highly recommended.

Wonderful Ski Season Rental

  • 5 of 5

Stone Cottage is located in beautiful Sterling Forest and just 10 minutes to town! This was our second ski season here and enjoyed every minute of it. The house worked perfectly for our family of 5 and we always looked forward to our weekends at Stone Cottage. The house was clean, cozy and had all the comforts of home. Lynne (the owner) is great to work with. She is responsive, accommodating and works hard to ensure that your stay is wonderful. We look forward to visiting again!

Warm and cozy cottage in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two weeks during the fall foliage season at the Stone Cottage. We researched our options for 6 months before deciding on this property and we were not disappointed. The owners knew we were coming to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoy the fall foliage season in Vermont. We arrived late in the evening to find pumpkins at the head of the driveway and mums along the sidewalk with the lights on waiting for us. I felt as if I was driving up to my own home. Inside there was more autumn décor, a fresh vase of flowers, Vermont maple products, a bottle of wine with glasses set out for us. The fireplace was prepared to simply strike a match and light the flame then sit back and enjoy. The welcome and first impressions could not have been more perfect.

Access to the cottage is simple and easy to find. It's not too far from town to run in and grab some groceries but far enough that you feel like you have privacy all around you. I loved the fact that the road passes a covered bridge that I could see every day.

The house is clean, spotless in fact, and comfortable. The appliances in the kitchen are very nice and in great working order. My husband enjoyed the fact that he could cook on a gas stove as we have an electric range at home. The downstairs bathroom has a very large shower with an excellent shower head and good water pressure. They had the largest, softest, whitest bath towels that I have ever seen. I seriously wanted to take them home with me, but I didn't. The woodstove in the living area heats up fast and puts out a lot of heat. You don't have to worry about getting cold when that thing is lit. But my favorite part was having a fireplace in the bedroom. It felt very glamourous and indulgent to have the flicker of firelight as you are drifting off to sleep.

The cottage sits in a secluded setting in the Sterling Forest just about 10 minutes or so outside of Stowe. There are hiking trails and a stream that can be enjoyed right outside the door. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to see a variety of wildlife during our stay, including several deer in the pasture next door, a red fox, a skunk, and two friendly neighbor dogs. Unfortunately no moose, although we did our best to look for one.

We enjoyed our stay very much and had a wonderful time at the Stone Cottage and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
