Warm and cozy cottage in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two weeks during the fall foliage season at the Stone Cottage. We researched our options for 6 months before deciding on this property and we were not disappointed. The owners knew we were coming to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoy the fall foliage season in Vermont. We arrived late in the evening to find pumpkins at the head of the driveway and mums along the sidewalk with the lights on waiting for us. I felt as if I was driving up to my own home. Inside there was more autumn décor, a fresh vase of flowers, Vermont maple products, a bottle of wine with glasses set out for us. The fireplace was prepared to simply strike a match and light the flame then sit back and enjoy. The welcome and first impressions could not have been more perfect.

Access to the cottage is simple and easy to find. It's not too far from town to run in and grab some groceries but far enough that you feel like you have privacy all around you. I loved the fact that the road passes a covered bridge that I could see every day.

The house is clean, spotless in fact, and comfortable. The appliances in the kitchen are very nice and in great working order. My husband enjoyed the fact that he could cook on a gas stove as we have an electric range at home. The downstairs bathroom has a very large shower with an excellent shower head and good water pressure. They had the largest, softest, whitest bath towels that I have ever seen. I seriously wanted to take them home with me, but I didn't. The woodstove in the living area heats up fast and puts out a lot of heat. You don't have to worry about getting cold when that thing is lit. But my favorite part was having a fireplace in the bedroom. It felt very glamourous and indulgent to have the flicker of firelight as you are drifting off to sleep.

The cottage sits in a secluded setting in the Sterling Forest just about 10 minutes or so outside of Stowe. There are hiking trails and a stream that can be enjoyed right outside the door. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to see a variety of wildlife during our stay, including several deer in the pasture next door, a red fox, a skunk, and two friendly neighbor dogs. Unfortunately no moose, although we did our best to look for one.

We enjoyed our stay very much and had a wonderful time at the Stone Cottage and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Lovely house for a family visit

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Stone Cottage for 3 nights in July. Our experience was excellent from start to finish. The owner responded quickly to our inquiry and was such a pleasure to deal with. The caretaker was responsive, helpful and very sweet. The house itself is in a gorgeous spot, very serene and beautiful, with a flower filled yard and a well cut path down to the river. The house was clean and well supplied with an excellent kitchen and washer dryer. The bedroom layout was perfect for our family. There is a beautiful sunny room at the back of the house that was a favorite for my kids...they spent hours stretched out in the sunny window seat. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Wonderful winter seasonal rental

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Lynne for a wonderful winter season. We loved it! Your home was just perfect for our family of 5! The location was great...only 10 minutes to shops and restaurants and 15 minutes to the mountain. The drive to the cottage was beautiful not to mention the setting! The home had everything we needed and was very thought out for a winter rental. The separate bedrooms and the two seating rooms really worked well to define kid and adult spaces. The kitchen was also well stocked and the wood stove kept the place cozy! Both you and Barbara (caretaker) were responsive, helpful and attentive. Thank you again!

Perfect Stowe Location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Stone Cottage the first week of Oct 2015 and had a wonderful time. Stone cottage is a few minutes outside the village of Stowe, set in a beautiful forested area with streams and lakes that was aglow with autumn colors all around. You can head in any direction to go exploring; Stowe resort/Mt Mansfield, Ben and Jerry’s, and Cold Hollow Cider Mill are short drives. There are many restaurants in the area; however, if you choose to stay in, the cottage has a great kitchen loaded with modern appliances. The décor is warm and friendly with three cozy fireplaces (tons of wood). There are also three TVs and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The area is quiet and peaceful with only a few cars passing on the road, so I was able to let my Labrador Retriever run in the morning. She loved the freedom of running thru the ferns and trees that surround the house. We had a great time!

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Stone Cottage. The caretaker met us at the Cottage and was extremely welcoming and helpful. The Cottage is 10 minutes outside of Stowe and only minutes from great hiking trails, some even on the property. Stone Cottage itself is lovely and has everything in the kitchen you could possibly want. The bedrooms were very comfortable and it was great to have a second living room. Overall a great stay and we look forward to coming back!

Perfect VT getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Stone Cottage was the perfect destination for our family of 4, even with 2 teenage boys who take up a lot of space and sometimes need to be in different rooms. The house is comfortable, perfectly situated for hiking, biking and "road trips" to Burlington and Hanover (Dartmouth College) for those interested in getting around. We highly recommend the Stone Cottage and would definitely return.
