About The Owner

John Henry Sloan is a Medical Director at a Rehabilitation Hospital. When he bought the Ridgerunner, he added the second story of the Main Cabin and built the small Cabin that sleeps 2 more. He loves to come to Taos to ski and to stay at the Ridgerunner Cabin as often as he and his family can.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2013

Why The Owner chose Taos County

This is your true family Cabin in the woods. Roast marshmallows, play Scrabble or Go Fish. Luxury and comfort combined. Fish in the Arroyo Hondo across the street. Show your kids what a land line looks like! But we are also fully wifi capable with the highest grade Fiber Optic internet, so stream away. Slip into the hot tub on a deck in the forest, behind the house for privacy and a feeling of woodsy relaxation.

Notes:
* This home is perfectly set for one or two families, with an open floor plan and a loft that sleeps six, plus a completely private studio which sleeps two (available only as part of the main house rental). There are two full baths, a hot tub on the porch off the master bedroom and a big porch in front. There are few homes of this size available on the rental market. What's more, this home is priced based on the number of people in your party, making it a phenomenal value, whether you are a romantic couple seeking an exclusive getaway or a two-family group with children. This is an unbeatable value in the Ski Valley.

We came here to celebrate my step-son’s 14th Birthday & had an amazing getaway! It is so beautiful, the location is perfect & we loved that our sweet pups were able to come along. If you are looking for a cabin getaway... look no further. This place has it all!!!!

Cost home, not big but feels spacious.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed being together in Ridgerunner Lodge. Two of the adults camped out in the ‘chalet.’ Having two bathrooms, one up, one down, was good.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house is great for a family, with space for the kids to be upstairs and adults to be downstairs or on the deck. I'd find it difficult to have too many guests (we had just 2 kids with us), especially if you wanted privacy. The whole house is open except for the master, and the hot tub is off that room - so you do hear everything going on. There are 2 queens upstairs, and the master is a king. The game "cabin" is available, and is the smaller "cabin" - with one twin bed. It'd be good if you wanted some quiet time to read peacefully, but I wouldn't want my kid to sleep there alone - I think it'd be scary for them. Nonetheless, it's a nice little nook. There were plenty of towels and kitchen necessities, and it was very clean and well stocked. We spent a lot of time at the kitchen table, with the windows looking over the trees and deck. Be sure to take some umbrella type chairs with you to enjoy the deck. Unfortunately, because of the extended lack of rain, the Carson was closed to us, however, I am positive when it comes back to life with some constant rain, the trees will be brilliant. The Hondo is directly across the street, and you can hear it all day and night. We saw plenty of deer, birds, and even a baby bear cub on the property (glad I didn't see the mama!). It's very close to the resort, which is beautiful. The only negative I had, and this is to be expected in a house in the woods where you sleep with the windows open (no screens) is that the bugs were your constant companion. I don't mind june bugs or moths, or even spiders, but I didn't like the gigantic ants. My 9YO and I just had to pretend that they didn't exist. Lastly, when you travel between Taos and the cabin, there's a great little community called Arroyo Seco and it's is lovely! The people are kind, the art and food is wonderful, and it's a quirky little place to wander around. There's two large grocery stores in town, about a 20+ minute drive. We did have wifi available (thanks, John!), but cell service was pretty much null. I had some service, my husband had none, and we are both on Sprint. Apparently, Taos (proper) and Sprint are not friends. We appreciated that we were felt welcomed in the house, and really loved our time unwinding and appreciating all the beauty.

Enjoy your stay - we did!

It was a great weekend getaway.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was nice. Kids loved it. The water pressure was not the best as others mentioned but still enough to get clean. Wish we could have stayed longer. I bet it is amazing in winter. Owner/property manager was easy to work with. A downfall is not a whole lot to do in summer at the ski lodge so we drove to Red River and Eagles Nest which was still a good drive. But that was poor planning on my part. I would love to stay there again. We over packed stuff and they had almost everything we needed.
