Gorgeous mountain views. You have to visit to see for yourself. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Large hay fields surround the home. View of two small farm ponds.
Preston and Judy were terrific hosts. We enjoyed speaking with them and hearing the family history. The farm house easily accommodated our large family, and we had plenty to do. I grilled chicken outdoors while watching a nice sunset over the mountains. We walked the property, fished the ponds, hiked Sharptop, spent time by the firepit on the back patio (even roasted hot dogs), and enjoyed seeing all the stars. My 15 year old son commented, "I have never seen so many stars in my life!".
Our hosts made us feel welcomed. Almost as if were were extended family.
They have thought of every need. We have been booking through VRBO for years, and I must say that this was the best provisioned place that we have ever stayed. We will be returning when we can. Thanks so much, we had a great time.
This 1930's improved farm house has the feeling of returning home to grandma's for the holidays. There was ample space for gathering in the "great room" living room, and with our family of musicians, we loved having the piano to play during our unplugged vacation. If you want digital connection, there is no internet (yet), but we had plenty of 4G signal with Verizon. There is a smart TV with a DVD player available. However, you will have plenty of natural beauty to see outside of every window in the house. Mountains surround your field of vision and the birds are plentiful.
The owners are kind and catering to your needs. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and wraps. We had fresh condiments available in the fridge from the previous renters. There is a Mr. Coffee 10-cup with sugar and creamer for breakfast. The owners even left a basket of breakfast goodies! I enjoyed cooking on the 1960's stovetop in cast iron cookware with Sharptop and Flattop peak view outside the kitchen sink window.
The linens are provided for the two downstairs queens and the upstairs double and twins. Towels are amply provisioned as well.
The gas firepit was a bit tricky, but the lighter tool in the kitchen drawer helped us out. I recommend a firepit patio night in good weather there!
We stayed in spring, when we never needed to close the windows. The air was cool and crisp, which helped us sleep very well. I recommend a late afternoon nap in the master bedroom, when the warm sun and cool breeze come through the window. It's intoxicating!
In town, check out the Liberty Station restaurant for a nice meal. It's a converted train station and trains still roll by during dinner! The prices were moderate and food was nicely prepared with a good variety menu and drinks. We also enjoyed family time at the D-Day Memorial ($10.00 adults/$6.00 students). The tour guides were well informed.
Hiking trails at Peaks of Otter visitor center were about 8 minutes away, so we visited often. The lodge has a gorgeous view and a bar/restaurant if you want to take in the view with a nice meal. There are walking trails ranging from an easy stroll around the lake to the heart and hamstring workout of Sharp top mountain trial. Take lots of water! The Hearkening Hill hike was quite a workout at well, but the view is obstructed by trees at the top.
Overall, we loved this property and the owners were as nice as could be. We hope to return again with our family and maybe some friends!
We enjoyed the view and the comforts the house. It was easy to find and within minutes of a Food Lion. Great place highly recommended.
This house is absolutely gorgeous, the view from every window in the home is breathtaking. We have stayed at many rentals and this one truly felt like home. The owners were on point, and responded immediately. We traveled with 4 children, the youngest 9 months and the oldest 14 and all enjoyed every moment. The house is equipped with everything a young child could need including a full size crib, 2 highchairs and a wonderful wash basin that was perfect for our baby to splash around in. If we are ever in Bedford, this is the only place we will stay. Pictures really just don't do justice!!!!
Exactly as advertised. Great owner, made sure everything was ok. House was spotless. We'll be back.
Wow! what a wonderful view from the kitchen every morning. First morning, we had light snow flurries. Wonderful house with lots of extras. We enjoyed being able to stay in a cozy house together. I would recommend this for families or groups.
