Overview

Photos and Description of this Woodward holiday cottage

Cozy cottage in serence pine forest with spring-fed creek running through.

Our Property:

You will find our cottage in the midst of a towering hemlock and pine forest at the juncture of three gorgeous spring-fed mountain streams. Step out our door and walk to prime fishing locations on Pine Creek, then return to the cottage to grill your trout while sitting around a campfire listening to the babbling brooks.

Our Cottage:

You will have a hard time getting out of our comfy bed in the master bedroom while enjoying the serene view of the forest through our picture window. Cook up a storm in our spacious kitchen and dining area, fully equipped with range, refrigerator, blender, coffee maker, plenty of counter space and well supplied with cooking implements, dishes, etc. The cottage also has a cozy living room, another bedroom with bunk beds, a bathroom, and an outhouse.

Things to Do Nearby:

The cottage is surrounded by beautiful nature and countryside for walking and biking. There are two adult bikes at the cabin that you are welcome to use. The area has many excellent options for cycling, hiking, swimming, tubing, flyfishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Cyclists and hikers can choose between gentle routes along creek roads, hilly countryside routes, or tough mountain trails. We are right next to Woodward Camp, Woodward Cave and Bald Eagle State Park and are 5 miles from the town of Millheim which has grocery store, farmers market (Saturdays), coffee shop, art gallery, brew-pub, wine shop, churches, meat market, hardware, variety store, pizza shop, etc. Live music and other cultural events going on all the time in Millheim, ask about local entertainment schedule for your dates. We are also close to Amish farms, markets, harness shops and fabric shops. We are halfway between State College (Penn State University) and Lewisburg (Bucknell University). Also nearby: Penns Cave, Tussey Mountain (skiing, golf course, etc), The Round Barn, Boalsburg, Bellefonte, Grange Faire, and many other interesting locations.

A Note about our Ecosystem:

Our property is part of one of the healthiest watersheds in the northeastern United States, home to many rare species of native plants, amphibians, fish, birds and mammals. Please keep this in mind and treat our property with care. Stick to the trails, don’t move rocks or logs around, do not pull up, trample or cut any live plants, keep campfires within designated rings, don’t leave fires unattended, and completely douse fires with creek water when finished. You are welcome to carefully gather dead twigs and branches that have fallen on the ground for your campfires. We encourage you to help us keep the cottage as sustainable as possible by conserving on electricity and separating your recycling and bio-waste (compost) from your trash. If you are feeling especially enthusiastic about being environmentally conscious, make use of our 3-seater 'Goldilocks' composting outhouse! Its clean and comes stocked with reading material. :)

We are looking forward to sharing our little corner of paradise with you!

Why David chose Allegheny Mountains

When we first saw that this property was for sale and walked around it, we immediately fell in love. The converging, spring fed mountain streams gurgling their way through mossy stones and tower hemlock and pine trees is both breathtakingly beautiful and serenely relaxing.

What makes this cottage unique

All of our projects are environmentally conscious and a large percentage of the profits go towards making improvements that reduce our environmental impact. By sharing this property with us, you also are helping us reach our sustainability goals.

wondeful getaway

  • 4 of 5

Great little ole bungalow in the Pa mountains took me back to childhood going to my fathers hunting camp. Close enough to anything but far enough away from everything. Close to State College, multiple state parks, fishing , biking and hiking. My 10 and 13 year old boys had a ball exploring the many streams that converge on the property. The many Amish farms in the area are a welcome reprise from our hectic society. Thanks David for sharing your property with us.

A Week Away From The Hustle of Iowa!

  • 5 of 5

The babbling brook, outdoor fires, meals prepared on the open fire and cold beers sums up our relaxing week! Our 2 toddlers explored and never got bored, and our 13yr old enjoyed a week at Woodward skate camp. It was truly a relaxing weekend!

The cottage was clean and fit all our needs!

We visited the Bald Eagle State Park, ate twice at The Elks Creek, drank water from the side of the mountain (can't do that in Iowa! Lol), toured the caves and visited the coffee shop (Inglebean) several times, best coffee!!

We enjoyed seeing all the horse and buggies, and appreciated seeing the use of the land in a way we don't see back home!

Tranquil stay in the forest!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Whispering Pines cabin. It was very serene with the constant flow of the creek and birds high up in the pine trees. It was a camping-like experience (with a few more luxuries; indoor plumbing, refrigerator, beds & roof over our heads.) The Amish in the area were so friendly! It seemed like there were more Amish than not in the rural areas surrounding the cabin. The campfire pits were great. The kids enjoyed exploring the woods & creek. They did miss their modern conveniences of cell signal, internet/wifi & cable tv. All-in-all it was a great place to unwind and get away from our busy lives.

Perfection!!

  • 5 of 5

Our week long stay at this property was absolutely amazing! We were looking for a place to get away from all of the busy hustle and bustle of life and this was definitely it!

It was great to wake up in the morning and see the sun shining brightly over the trees outside of the main bedroom window then be able to go outside and sit at one of the two fire pit areas and just listen to the birds and creek.

I could go on forever about our stay but I will sum it up with this:

In the morning we were able to relax while enjoying the best mother nature has to offer right outside of the front door.

In the daytime we were able to enjoy the many farmers markets all around the area, which boasts some of the best produce and products I have ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed the near by towns and the presence of really wonderful friendly people and farmers.

In the evening we were able to relax and cook some amazing dinners (almost all from local farms), read books, play the guitar, and do puzzles.

The owner, David, was very hospitable. I feel he really went above and beyond, ensuring our stay was as enjoyable as possible. He provided practically everything you could possible think of.

I can't wait until I gather enough PTO from work so that I can go back and enjoy this place again! I definitely missed out on some awesome hiking and wonderful outdoor activities due to being so awestruck by the farmers markets and local businesses.

If you are looking for a place to unwind from the stress and reboot this is most certainly the place!

As us for advice on the best places to do outdoor activities known only to locals. for example, there is a place you can go tubing in Penns Creek in which the creek goes in one giant loop with an old tunnel through the hill in between so you can tube all day and only have to walk five minutes between your start and end point. It is magical!
