We purchased Cliffside Falls, (formerly IL Bella Vista) in August of 2014 with the intention of it being our retirement home. However, after seeing how unique and picturesque this property was we knew right away that we needed to share it. So after the purchase, we immediately began some enhancements to the property and it has become our passion. We want to make it the most memorable getaway for you. We are offering the Cliffside Suite and the Ridge studio to our guests who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with the comforts of home and the opportunity to enjoy Nature’s beauty, adventure and excitement. We hope you enjoy the home, especially the waterfalls, wildlife and spectacular mountain views it has to offer. Cliffside Falls is a great place for all to unwind and relax in comfort, convenience and Nature.
Melissa Lohr purchased this house in 2014
The most unique majestic views to be found.
Mountain range views on one side and waterfalls on the other side.
What a beautiful home! The place has been decorated very high end - not what I'm used to seeing in a rental property. There was plenty of dishware and just about every gadget you can think of. The hosts also provided lots of supplies. The views and falls were amazing. Great place!
Beautiful location, very secluded, and with all the amenities one could ask for. I have been renting cabins and weekend houses for years with my friends and this one has been our favorite so far. We can't wait to go back some day. The owners have definitely earned 5 stars. Thank you for the awesome weekend!
This really is a fantastic and amazing property for a large group of friends and family. We had a group of 10 adults, one teenager and two 6 yr. olds and everyone had a blast. We hiked several times throughout the day to the waterfalls, we brought our bow and arrows and corn hole for the kids. We enjoyed the fire pit , Jacuzzi, game room, trails. This house is a true gem and the owner is just wonderfully kind, we were able to change our dates because we had a last minute change in our schedule, she had some snacks and wine for us upon arrival, just great attention to detail for her guests. There is no Cell service (although Internet, WIFI service is awesome), which I was worried at first, but did not miss this feature one bit, there is a landline so no worries. Our large group has had several outings for the past few years and I can say that this is the only house that everyone loved, so we are definitely coming back!
I have a relative amount of experience with airbnb and homeaway and have found a trend towards overstatement of properties as opposed to any brand of under-selling the space and amenities of almost all rentals. We anticipated a nice, expansive, private space and our expectations were far exceeded.
I must admit that I was nervous when I first saw the cookies. I have seen hosts sweeten their guests with baked goods before...usually with underwhelming results. These however were some of the best cookies any of us had ever eaten. You could tell that the person (Melissa) that made them actually cared...a lot.
The other two aspects that stood out to us most were the falls and the size of the property.
The falls were warned about on the posting more than they were championed. My buddies and I have a good deal of hiking and camping experience and would happily commit to a many-mile haul through the woods to gain access to such a beautiful, babbling oasis. While not for the clumsy-footed individual, the steep climb down and back convey a sensation of true isolation. To have such a beautiful natural habitat at our own, private disposal was a definite highlight to the weekend for us. Several of us spent more time at the water than we did at the house. That being said, the house and lay-out of the decks and yard allowed for a multitude of experiences. Ten dudes in one house was a daunting prospect going into the weekend, but the amount of room that we had alleviated any chance of a feeling of claustrophobia. We were all able to sleep/nap whenever we wanted, without the inconvenience of having to endure the noise of anyone who wasn't feeling so-inclined at the time.
Melissa was immediately responsive and helpful with any and all questions I had leading up to our stay at the their home. I had the opportunity to chat with her, her husband and the delightful young lady who is her head housekeeper the day we left and it was a perfect conclusion to our weekend. They were all as warm, caring and hospitable as I had assumed they would be, given their attention to detail. I would absolutely recommend their property to anyone with a large group, looking to get away from everything. Between the peace and quiet, the sunrises and the waterfalls, I can't think of a place that could have better-suited our needs.
We are already planning a return trip!
Thank you so much for your generous hospitality. With the potted flowers outside, snacks and freshly baked cookies, chocolates by our bedside and the perfect wine for our steak dinner...we truly felt welcomed at your beautiful retreat! Cliffside Falls is exquisitely decorated inside and out...love your attention to detail! You have genuinely ensured that your guest have available everything needed to enjoy their stay. My favorite part is the path to the waterfalls. We are immensely grateful for you deciding to share your little piece of Heaven. Our stay was adventurous, yet restful and very peaceful - it was perfect in everyway!!
By the way, the only reason all your cookies were not eaten is because we had 3 freshly made Raspberry pies, 1 apple pie and 2 loafs of zucchini bread. Thanks again!
I kind of hate to write a 5 star review of the house as I fear that soon people will find Cliffside Falls and getting a reservation will become impossible! My family of 16 enjoyed the main house and the Ridgeview Suite (which connects to the main house) for our annual week vacation. As we arrived at the house, we were greeted with fresh chocolate chip cookies, chocolates on the bedside table in each bedroom, and wine and a goody basket, which was an amazingly generous and thoughtful touch that I have rarely (if ever) seen at past rentals (25+years of various properties). The views of the mountains from the house are outstanding, coupled with bird watching, hearing the falls, you really were in nature. We loved the falls and the kids spent countless hours trying to fish for natives using hand crafted rods from sticks! The walk down was a bit much for a few in the group (afraid of heights), but everyone got a view and could hear the sounds from the deck and viewing platform. The house had plenty of space, the bedrooms large and comfortable. The upstairs gameroom was a favorite for pool tournaments and the various decks were used from everything to early morning coffee and crosswords to late night star gazing (oh my the clear skies and to be there during the meteor shower). The kitchen is well stocked and as a family that cooked every night, we did not lack for pots/pans/gadgets. In case you do not look at a map, the house is remote and about 20 minutes from town; however, there are a ton of activities off property that we took advantage including: kayak/fishing trips on various segments of the S.Branch of the Potomac, tennis in town, golfing at the public course, exploring Lost River State Park, hiking/exploring Seneca Rocks, a tour at Smoke Hole Caverns, a trip on the Cass Scenic RR, a tour of the National Radio Observatory, antiquing in Winchester, and feeding fish at the hatchery (we fed lots of trout). It was a terrific vacation.
