Beach adjacent 3 Bedroom Bungalow

Bedrooms 3
Property type villa

About the property

Villa in Unawatuna, 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 7

This unique premium boutique villa is adjacent Unawatuna Beach. It successfully meshes its colonial period style architectural splendour with 21st century luxury in a serene garden setting.

The House and the surrounding pavilions are furnished with an elegant array of antique furniture, comfortable lounges and richly textured fabrics allowing guests to relax in style and comfort. It can be booked as a whole or as individual suites. The kernel of the House is formed around the original bungalow, built in the early 1800's for the local police sergeant.

It is the oldest remaining building in the village of Ganahena. Both Portuguese and Dutch influences can be seen in its construction, together with its original classic Tuscan style verandah columns. Over two hundred years later Mr.Mark Smoot saw a vision for this place based on its unique attributes and proximity to the beach and Galle.

So began the long process of sensitively restoring and expanding the property to form a cluster of pavilions interwoven around the original bungalow, its gardens, ponds, fountains, courtyards and wrap-around swimming pool.

A quick stroll from House to Unawatuna Beach will reveal a white sand half moon beach with its azure blue waters luring both locals and visitors. Here you will find swimmers, sun-seekers, kite flyers, or perhaps a few young cricketers in the late afternoon.

Others spend their time enjoying refreshments and light meals at the cafes and restaurants scattered along the beach. At night time the beach side is transformed into a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and beach side dance clubs for the night owls in your party. All of this is a safe distance away from Sergeant House to preserve your peace and quiet.

With only the bungalow and two suites, our aim is to give guests a pampered, private experience not often found in larger hotels and a memorable journey to the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.

Notes / Additional Charges:

If you require several rooms or suites, Sergeant House can be booked as a whole or in part. It is a perfect place, not only for individuals and couples, but also as a place to share with your friends or extended family.

We can assist you with all your requirements - transportation, meals, accommodation or planning a travel itinerary. Please speak to us if you are interested in any of these options. We are flexible to your needs and open to your suggestions.

The bungalow has three comfortable bedrooms (with 4 beds) and is rented as a full unit for friends and family groups. It features its own private fountain garden and entry onto deeply shaded verandahs roofed with original handmade clay tiles and supported by Tuscan columns. The verandahs are furnished with casual cushioned chairs, coffee tables and a bookcase for avid readers. Paired doors open directly on the opposite side of the bungalow to reveal an internal courtyard with a granite fountain and small garden. This creates a breezeway effect and good cross ventilation throughout the house.

Despite being extensively renovated, the bungalow retains all of its original colonial details, including hand carved panelled jackwood doors, window shutters and delicate timber friezes set in deep arched reveals above the windows and doors. This has the effect of allowing a soft light to penetrate the bungalow.

On the ground floor, the main bedroom has a king-size four-poster bed with mosquito net, a small writing desk, overhead fan and an air conditioner. There is an ensuite bath/shower room and separate vanity /toilet room. The ensuite bathroom has a large two-person bath and separate walk-in shower whilst the vanity room has a hand beaten, polished brass vanity basin and built-in wardrobe.

The ground floor also has a sitting room with a large, comfortable built-in seating nook, large size, cable 3D Smart television, DVD player and a large movie collection.

Upstairs there are 2 separate, light and bright, loft bedrooms with shuttered walls which look down into the central area of the ground floor. One up-stairs bedroom is furnished with a queen-size, four-poster bed, a writing desk and a small antique clothes closet. This room has an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and polished terrazzo walls.

The second up-stairs bedroom contains two four-poster beds with mosquito netting (a queen size and a super-single size) and a small antique cloths closet. The bathroom (with vanity and walk-in shower) for this room is located down the stairs, or the en-suite in the next room can be shared when friends and family allow.
