SmileInn Over the River is the perfect and relaxing getaway located along the Shenandoah River. The cabin is located in Luray Virginia, in the heart of the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley. The cozy cabin sits on 3 acres of property along the river with almost 400 feet of river frontage. There is a huge field along the river for families, friends and especially kids to run around and play.

All the amenities of home are provided such as Wi-Fi, DIRECTV, DVD player and phone service with nationwide long distance included. There are also river tubes and a canoe provided for your enjoyment on the river. A fire pit is down by the river with a picnic table and a hammock. Dogs are also welcome and there is a fenced dog run off the rear deck.

The cabin has two bedrooms, a loft and one and a half bathrooms. The full bathroom on the first floor is divided into two half baths (toilet and sink/ tub and shower) to provide better shared usage. The first floor bedroom has one queen bed, the second floor bedroom has two double beds and a half bath. The loft has a full size futon. There is a whirlpool tub in the first floor bath as well as a washer/dryer. Outside there is a large covered front porch and a rear screened porch and deck outside the porch with a nice view overlooking the river.

All linens and towels are provided. There is a propane gas grill on the deck with a full spare tank provided. The kitchen is fully supplied with dishes, pots and pans, coffeemaker, crockpot, microwave and blender. Paper towels and toilet paper are also supplied. Two dog crates are available for use on the screened porch.

The yard below the cabin along the river is perfect if you are planning an event or family gathering. There is also an access road that runs between the cabin and the river that is accessible by car should someone be unable to walk down the hill from the cabin to the river. Camping on the lot for an additional charge may be permitted for additional guests with prior approval. Outdoor games such as corn hole, horse shoes, and other yard games are provided. Inside the cabin there is a library books, board games and puzzles, and a large movie selection for the DVD player.

The drive into town and the nearest grocery store are about a 30 minutes so you may want to stock up on food and preplan your meals to avoid unnecessary trips to the store. The historic town of Luray, Luray Caverns, Lake Arrowhead and Jellystone Park are about a half hour drive. Shenandoah National Park including the entrance to Skyline Drive, Wisteria Vineyard, Massanutten Resort, and New Market Battlefield are about an hour drive. The cabin is located at the base of Massanutten Mountain and borders the George Washington National Forest. There are hiking trails nearby which include the Habron Gap Trail and Indian Grave Ridge Trail. There are many more trails located in Shenandoah National Park.

About Jeff and Kristin Gaulard

We were married in 2011 at Sharp Rock Vineyard with Old Rag Mountain in the background which is where we became engaged. Jeff had moved to Luray several years before that after many years of searching for the right place. I moved to Luray just before we married in 2011. Jeff had spent many years hiking and sightseeing in Shenandoah National Park, he had known he wanted to live in the Shenandoah Valley someday. Having lived in Maryland and Northern Virginia most of my life, I fell in love with the area after

Jeff and Kristin Gaulard purchased this cabin in 2014

Smile Inn

The Smile Inn was extremely welcoming, clean and beautifully decorated. Our stay was even more wonderful than we had anticipated. The owners have thought of everything.......all the amenities of home. We are already planning our next stay at the Smile Inn.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Don't wash your car before you go. The lengthy drive down the dirt road can stir up a lot of dust. But, once you are there, you will have everything you need, provided you remembered all of your food. The stainless kitchen was amply equipped for all cooking and the gas grill on the deck was clean. A vacuum cleaner was out on the deck to catch the many stink bugs that got in, but a quick cleaning twice a day took care of them. They did not get in the house.

The back porch, deck and front porch were all restful places to unwind and enjoy the woods, river and animals. The bedrooms were comfortable and the linens were fresh and clean. We did take the canoe out for a short ride right from the shore.

My daughter, her husband and their two year old child joined us from the DC area and they enjoyed the relaxation that the SmileInn provided. So did we.

Owner's Response: We apologize for the stink bugs! Unfortunately it is an issue in this area everywhere! They get worse two times a year and one is in the fall when the temperatures start dropping. The long gravel road and dust is the price we pay for having the cabin in a nice, secluded area. The one bonus about our cabin is it is past the drop off and pick up area the buses use for all the river outfitters tubing and canoeing trips.

this was by far the best little getaway I've had. The scenery was beautiful, the cabin was cozy and it was really a quiet time for my wife and I to refresh and enjoy each other's company away from a busy life!!! I highly recommend this place to everyone!

Beautiful Property, Home and Experience

  • 5 of 5

We were really impressed with this cabin. It was beautifully situated with a view of the river from the back porch. Every morning we took a short walk down to the river and swam. The owners have made the house incredibly comfortable and have thought of all the details. There were inner tubes for us to use, which was awesome because we drove just two miles up the road and dropped off for an hour or so ride right to the house. Inside the cabin is cozy, with everything you'd need in the kitchen to cook a meal, comfortable beds, plenty of towels and books and games. We will be back!

The house is just lovely, well-equipped, very comfortable for our family of 5. Beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we stayed at this lovely house next to the Shenandoah River and we just loved it ! The setting is spectacular - looking from the back deck across a broad lawn down to the river. The hosts provide everything you could want - floats, canoe, life vests- so you can get on the water- very refreshing on a hot day! My boys fished every day and could easily wade all way across the river . The house also has a huge back-screened porch with full table for meals. The kitchen is very well-equipped and up-to-date as are the bathrooms. We made good use of the gas grill on the deck. The living room is very comfortable for sitting, reading, playing games or watching the direct TV. There is also wi-fi. After busy days we all slept very well each night. The owners do a terrific job of doing everything they can both inside and out to make this a wonderful retreat from the busy world. And they welcome dogs!
