What an experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in Boston. Usually, we travel to Boston in the winter so a summer trip was already a unique experience for us. Combine that with the opportunity to stay on a houseboat in the harbor, and this trip was a homerun with our 4 boys. The boat was well kept, and extremely clean when we walked in. The owner went above and beyond, to make sure we had an enjoyable vacation. While the boat was not super close center city, it is easy enough to Uber to and from and we were able to experience so much not only in Boston, but in Salem as well. It was a major benefit to be able to park our car for the weekend and not worry about it. We were fortunate enough to experience a small rainstorm on one of our nights on the boat, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching the tide come in and out after the kids went to sleep. Having a drink on the deck was such a nice wind down after experiencing all the sights of the city that day. Seems simple enough, but anyone who travels with small kids knows how important those tiny seconds of peace are. Overall, it was a great vacation, and an even better location. We look forward to doing something similar again, such a unique way to end our road trip :-) Thanks!

The boat is fantastic, the location is challenging

  • 5 of 5

The Blue Pearl is a lovely boat, well appointed and convenient for a family or couple. The bedroom is comfortable, the loft is charming and the sleeper sofa worked well for our son. Our teen daughter loved the loft, hanging out up there and enjoying her independence. The kitchen is small but functional, and we were able to prepare some delicious meals, including grilling some hot dogs and eating on the covered deck (since it was raining). The upstairs deck is a nice place to relax and get some sun. The boat is very accessible from the parking lot -- especially at high tide when the dock is nearly horizontal.

We were notified after we made our reservation that the boat was no longer parked near the aquarium (several months before our registration). It is funny, but the one thing about a boat that didn't occur to me is that it can be moved!

From both a cost & time perspective, this was a bit of a game changer. A mile was too far for one of our family to walk to get to the T, and the water taxi wanted $25 pp to pick us up (or $100 one way!) Lyft or Uber might have worked, but we opted to drive instead struggling (not surprisingly) to park. The aquarium was central to our plans, but the lot there is more than $40 for a few hours. We ended up finding street parking on the weekend and making do. For logistical reasons, driving made more sense for us than Lyft, but Deb was right that Lyft might have been the best option for most folks. The drive is about 10-20 minutes and involves crossing the draw bridge that you can see from the boat. Still, not being able to walk increased the cost of our trip and I'd wish I'd known before I made the reservation. On the other hand, parking at the Marina was free. So maybe it was mostly a time issue, not cost.

Bottom line, the kids loved it, we loved it, and it made our stay in Boston entirely unique among our vacations. The kids have announced plans to buy a houseboat (when they get older), I hope I get to come visit!

Unique and Fun

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our short trip to Boston and part of that enjoyment was our stay on the Blue Pearl. Although we did not spend a great deal of time onboard, the sunset on night number one with the draw birdge in view was spectacular and sleeping was very restful. We used Uber for our primary means of transportation and never had a problem with them locating us. Parking our car in a secure lot at the marina gave us great peace of mind. We did not experience any noise from Logan Airport and the location of the marina seemed to be well protected from weather. Overall, I would rate this a four out of five and the reasons for not being five out of five are as follows: I know it says six can be accomodated but in truth, it is really more comfortable for four people. It is a small space and we needed a bit more room to move about. We were to be a party of six but one couple had to back out so the four of us were almost glad they didn't come. Secondly, the shower control unit was constantly being hit by our movement and changed the water temperature. It is a tight space and you need to be careful.

We are boaters and are used to these kinds of things so it did not prevent us from having a wonderful time but if you are expecting room for six, be aware of the limitations.

Fun base camp for exploring the city

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for something unique for our visit to Boston. The Blue Pearl hit the mark. We had 3 adults & a teenager - had plenty of room.

The location was central, pretty easy to get to/ from. There is info on things to see in the cabinet under the tv - we didn't notice then until we were leaving. The guest book also provides ideas of things to do, places to go.

The bedroom was really comfortable & the teenage boy loved the loft, but did bump his head a couple of times (probably knocked some sense into him - lol. )

There were dishes, a tiny kitchen, full fridge, 2 burner stove top, microwave & toaster oven.

It is close to the airport, but we didn't hear much airport noise. You do hear the tires of the cars going over the draw bridge - kind of a hummmm & you do hear horns in the night.

It is a boat, so marine toilet & tiny shower. The window coverings are thin - if you are sensitive to light, you should bring eye masks to block the light.

I'd recommend The Pearl for a unique get away.
