About Jon Julien

We live and work in Denver, but have spent a lot of time in Grand Lake. We fell in love with the area 20 years ago. After renting cabins every Christmas for the last 12 years, we decided we should buy our own place to share.

Jon Julien purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jon Julien chose Rocky Mountain National Park

We are mid century design fans and the 'A' frame really appealed to us. We had a lot of fun picking 'rustic modern' pieces to decorate with and use some of the pieces we owned, such as the Herman Miller table. We also like the fact that there is no neighbor to the south and we are at the end of the street with no outlet. It's very peaceful and quiet here. We love the bright southern and eastern exposure that fills the house with light.

What makes this cabin unique

The best thing about our cabin is the location. We have vacationed for years in the area and always visit the Snow Mountain Nordic Center over Christmas vacation. It's an easy drive there, it's family friendly, and there are lots of things to do. There is also a small cross country track right in the neighborhood that we just discovered last year. Grand Lake is a charming mountain town to visit year round. The people are so friendly and helpful. The summer is bustling and the winter is quiet and beautiful.

Nice views, nice location

  • 4 of 5

Our second time staying at this cabin. Location is very close to entrance to RMNP and within 5 minutes of downtown Grand Lake. We saw Elk walk by the house again this year, that is a great bonus. Just a short walk to a beautiful lake. Very quiet surroundings. Only complaint is that the heat is quite hard to figure out. We turned it way down both nights and it still must have been above 80 degrees in cabin while it was snowing outside. Not the worst problem to have but a minor inconvenience. I highly recommend this cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We loved loved this property. Very close to town but felt like we were miles away. Secluded an authentic! Saw a moose sipping from the lake and woke up to a herd of Elk out our bedroom window. Best sleep ever! Comfy beds and all the needs of a home. Highly recommend!

Cabin was very clean ,and comfortable. Everything you could need was there. Moose every morning at the bedroom windows. Close to the town of grand lake and 3 big lakes within a few minutes if you want to spend time on the water. Lots of long nice hiking trails close by also.

A frame near Grand Lake

  • 3 of 5

The home was nicely maintained and the owners were very nice. We appreciate that they accommodated us with very short notice. Note that there is no air conditioning, which is not a big deal since it doesn't usually get too hot in the mountains, but a screen door would have been nice so we could leave the door open and not worry about bugs. We also appreciated that they allowed us to bring our dog. One suggestion would be to add gates on the deck if possible, which would keep pets/children safely on the deck. The child gates didn't really work, since they were too short and our dog could jump over them. A TV in the living room would have been nice as well, there is one on the second floor, but that's used as a bedroom as well. Renters are not allowed to use the lake close to the home, we used Grand Lake, so this was not a big deal to us but thought I'd mention for future renters. When we arrived there wasn't a key in the lockbox, but the owners had one dropped off the next day and I'm sure this won't be a problem for future renters. The water pressure was very good. Suggest you bring bug spray, this home is surrounded by foliage and trees, which is great for nature lovers, but also means lots of bugs at night. Loved seeing the moose and wild life!

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We live in Denver but head to the mountains every year for a gir's get-a-way weekend. My 4 daughters and I stayed for a long weekend and feel that this cabin was our best one yet! The location can't be beat. Not too far from town, ( think it's literally 5 mins) and surrounded by trees and a beautiful view! The decor was so perfect! Not too cheesy with all the typical cabin decorations, but with just enough to still feel like you are in the mountains. The beds are super comfortable, and the bathroom was big enough to serve 5 girls for 3 days! Now that's saying a lot! All the accessories, and little touches like games, movies, fire pit, bbq, and the dishes and cookware, made the stay so much better. We cooked dinner one night, and ate outside by the fire pit under the stars. The views from the big windows are breathtaking, and the peace and quiet is just what is needed for a get-a-way location!

Though we didn't see a moose on the property, we spent over an hour observing one in the valley below across the street. The walk to the little lake at the end of the street is 5 mins and sitting on the dock with a cup of coffee watching the fish is a nice way to spend a lazy morning. We did see elk two mornings behind the cabin, as well as a fox , and many birds.

If you stay, you must dine at Backstreet Grill which is right there in Grand Lake. The food is amazing, and the service was outstanding! I even purchased the house salad dressing which was the best I've ever had!

We loved this cabin, and felt very spoiled and well taken care of while we were there. Everything we needed was in a cabinet, or a drawer , and the modern appliances and decor was beyond our expectations! You won't be disappointed if you stay here!!
