This is a unique rental opportunity in the heart of the beautiful Monadnock Region. The 18th century farm home/residence is located on beautiful Zephyr lake. The 600 ft. waterfront insures privacy for swimming and relaxation on the furnished deck. Large eat-in kitchen, full dining room, large living room with sitting area, family room, four double bedrooms, two full baths, washer/dryer. Sleeps 8. Kick back and relax at the lake or take a stroll near by. For a little more of a challenge Mt Monadnock is close by for the climbing enthusiasts. Nearby Crotched Mountain and Mount Sunapee is perfect for skiing in the winter and hiking in summer.
The Red House is a short scenic drive from picturesque Peterborough a lovely, typical New England town offering quaint shops, restaurants, and theater. In the summer there are the Peterborough Players, Monadnock Music, and many other cultural events.
Lovely old home that is spacious and commodious, with a large pretty yard. The house was thoughtfully set up and we'll equipped by the owners, with artwork and decor that we enjoyed very much. We rented this to be close by for our son's wedding in Hancock, and were very comfortable. We were aware that there was lake access, but had NO IDEA how gorgeous the setting was. Wish we had had more time to enjoy the lovely secluded waterfront deck, but it was a perfect setting in which to enjoy our morning coffee! Highly recommend this home.
Thank you Jamie for the opportunity to stay at the Red House in Greenfield. We had a wonderful time with great weather, plenty of room and a nice lakeside experience with use of your canoe. Lots of fish were caught and returned to the lake for future guests.
The location was convenient for a family reunion in nearby Hillsborough. Our group also enjoyed trips to Keene, Peterborough, Mt Monadnock and Pack Monadnock. During the excursions I was able to photograph Seven covered bridges including one close by, the Hancock Greenfield bridge.
There were plenty of items in the cabinets for cooking including many spices, oil, nuts and other assorted food items. I would suggest that guests check the cabinets before purchasing supplies. There were fans in all the bedrooms and we were fortunate to have some nights when they were not needed. Overall we had plenty of everything we needed to make the visit a care free one.
Thanks again. We recommend your property and would stay again.
We recently spent another ten days in Jamie's delightful and comfortable pre-colonial house. It is located on Zephyr lake, a largely private lake which offers safe playing opportunities for children and swimming plus a canoe and two kayaks for the adults.
The house is commodious, beautifully furnished with antiques and is fully equipped.
We plan to make it our annual holiday destination.

Jamie's home is located on the shore of Zephyr Lake, a small, peaceful lake, with only a few homes around it. Our family mostly wanted to play in the water (and visit some nearby family) and this home was perfect. Access to the lake is via a short staircase/hill to a lovely deck. There were 2 inflatable kayaks and a full canoe that occupied us all for hours. The lake was fairly private and on a weekday seemed to generally have nobody there but us.
The home is spacious and has a nice screened porch. I'll confess, we didn't spend that much time in the house because the lake was our "place to be", so we only scratched the surface of the many lovely parts of the house.
The house is alongside the road, so there is traffic noise in the evening. It didn't keep us awake, but could be a problem for a sound-sensitive person.
We'd love to return someday!
We loved our stay! This house is a perfect getaway from New York City--and a wonderful example of how New England homes used to be built: spacious, sturdy, and beautiful. The house is filled with antiques, lending to its New England charm. For a family of six, the house still felt large, and the screened-in porch was a lovely summer evening hangout. The deck overlooking and with access to a private lake was wonderful--room enough to sun bathe and relax, along with two inflatable kayaks and one fantastic canoe. Though the house sits right off the side of the road, it is a quiet road (not too much traffic) with plenty of well-kept lawn space and privacy. Just down the road from a local market and cafe, we experienced the country life without any inconvenience.
Upon arrival, the house was immaculately clean, with extra towels, linens, blankets, fans and soap for every room, as well as beach towels. The kitchen came fully stocked with cooking and baking supplies and utensils. The wifi worked well, and the TV is a nice size. There's also a functional record player! I would definitely stay there again--perhaps to experience New England during ski season.
For my family of five adults and two children (5 and 3) this property was perfect. We had plenty of space and everything we needed (I discovered that I really need a floating kayak with a drink holder) for a wonderful week.
