About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

California has cowboys, beaches and surfing, skiing, hiking and shopping all rolled into one beautiful state. Seeing Yosemite when you vacation in California is a must. For this vacation, expand your mind and enjoy a true California experience by staying in a straw bale home. Unlike those of big bad wolf fame, modern straw bale homes are warm and comfortable. They provide a unique place to rest your soul (and feet) after a day of discovering Yosemite.

Our newly constructed Yosemite Straw Bale vacation home is a wonder. While the straw bales provide incredible R-50 insulation, we are using passive solar heating for preheating our radiant floor heating system with an instantaneous hot water heater as a backup system. Our photovoltaic grid panels are naturally creating clean energy from the sun. We tested these techniques on our own home and perfected them in this vacation rental for your enjoyment. Made to feel like your private second home, design touches include a social kitchen with a granite slab bar height counter, finished dyed concrete floors, and cozy radiant floor heating. Sitting hilltop at 3000 feet elevation (914m), the house includes a private deck perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views. We are also honored to share with you, eight fine art prints by renowned Sierra photographer Howard Weamer.

The gates of Yosemite are a mere 35 minutes away* on a drive that follows the wild and scenic Merced River. (*Your drive may take longer as you stop to put your feet in the river or photograph the wildflowers along the way.)

Would absolutely stay here again!

Beautiful, well appointed home. We had everything we needed and was perfect for us. Mariposa only a few miles away where you can go to grocery and great restaurants. Sunrise and sunsets were spectacular!

Wonderful home, great access to Yosemite!

  • 5 of 5

We all enjoyed staying at the New Straw Bale Home. The home was well furnished and the beds were very comfortable. Access to Yosemity was a relatively easy drive of about an hour to Yosemite Valley and the charming city of Mariposa was less than a half hour away. Would definitely stay there again when visiting Yosemite.

Excellent

We enjoyed our stay. The bedroom was cozy and open floor plan helpful in the kitchen. We saw quail and jack rabbits and turkey around the area. The sunrise over the deck was beautiful

Many thanks

Beautiful and Well-Appointed Home

  • 5 of 5

Though cut short by the evacuation due to the recent wildfire in the general area, our stay at the straw bale home was wonderful. It is beautifully-appointed and modern, with all of the comforts of home. The location is private and sitting on the deck late-afternoon looking out at the gorgeous view was a perfect way to end a day spent at Yosemite. Kathleen and her property manager, Lisa, went above and beyond to ensure we were well-taken care of throughout the very unusual situation with the Mariposa wildfire, and we were very appreciative of that.

This home is a very special and peaceful place, and we would love to have the opportunity to visit again in the future. Thank You, Kathy & Lisa!

We truly enjoyed our stay at the straw bale home

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice, nicer than I was expecting and there is plenty of room. They had everything stocked that you could want. I'm very particular about my beds and these were all very comfortable even the window seat/ bed. There is no air conditioning, which wasn't too big of an issue however the bedrooms were a little warmer than I like at bedtime. A fan would have been great. The rest of the house stayed cool. Surround sound was a nice touch, however I never could get the Netflix off of Spanish. I never called to ask either, I just watched other things. The ride into yosemiti isnt far, but does take awhile because of the curvy roads and traffic getting in, mostly though getting out. Another thing which is small but was nice, there are plugs everywhere. Wherever you sit you can plug in something. We loved the kitchen and the beautiful concrete floors. The view out of the windo is spectacular and there was always one of us in that window seat. I highly recommend this home.
