About this property

Bohemian Rhapsody with Garden in the Heart of Town

Light, airy first floor of an 1870s home smack dab in the middle of Hudson. From this peaceful 3-BR oasis you can walk to the exact center of town in less than a minute. Wi-fi, Roku, DVD player, fully equipped kitchen & yin-yang buddha garden with BBQ. Late check-out is available unless other guests are imminent.

Named for its Union Street location and domestic tranquility, A MORE PERFECT UNION is one minute's walk from the exact center of town. This beautiful, art-filled home makes a deliciously comfortable base for a weekend in Hudson. It's ideal for wedding guests, and well-provisioned enough to feel and function like home for longer-term stays.

Staying here feels like borrowing the immaculate home of a friend who's supplied every little thing you could need, including vibrant art—from local folk artist Earl Swanigan to Spanish abstract expressionist Isabel Santaló to surrealist John Fenton—and a wonderfully cozy ambiance. The house, whose wide old floorboards feel warm and solid underfoot, blends historic Federal-style construction with an exuberant mélange of art and other eclectic furnishings that delight the eye and nourish the soul.

Built long before the Civil War, the public spaces—living room, dining room and kitchen—are roomy with high ceilings. The bedrooms (one with a queen-size bed, two with doubles) are cozy, and generously appointed with soft linens, blankets, pillows and rugs. All the beds are super comfortable, and there's a queen-size futon couch in the living room.

With all the necessities and niceties of home provided, including a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, Cuisinart, blender, old-fashioned juicer, dishwasher, pots, and enough utensils to stock a Sur la Table outlet) and a pantry with staples, you can cook pretty much anything. The bathroom is stocked with toiletries including toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, Band-Aids, and blow dryer—plus a very comfortable clawfoot tub and enough white towels to make Leona Helmsley weep.

There's a propane barbecue and lots of seating in the yin-yang buddha garden, a lush oasis where hummingbirds flit through orange trumpet flowers all summer long.

Please message me with information about the number of people in your party and the reason for your visit so I know how to best accommodate your needs.

Perfect location and lovely comfortable accommodation
My family of 3 adults loved our stay at A perfect Union. The location is ideal- walkable to great restaurants and shops. On-street parking was plentiful. The apartment was comfortable, nicely decorated and very well equipped. Kitchen had all the basics and lots more from small appliances to baking pans to spices. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi worked well. We also enjoyed time in the garden at the back of the house. Ellen is a gracious host who will ensure her guests are well informed about the area and have everything they need. Would happily stay here again.

The house was amazing!
My wife and I absolutely loved this house, and Ellen was incredible! The rooms were beautiful, the garden was beautiful, and the whole place managed to be both cozy and spacious at the same time. You're also right in the heart of Hudson, within walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. We had an amazing time and would definitely stay here again! (Thanks Ellen!)

A beautiful quiet apartment convenient to downtown Hudson.
Hostess Ellen decorated her apartment with interesting artwork and colorful decor throughout. Myself and my two grown daughters thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in this comfortable space for the weekend. Thoughtful additions of coffee, tea, bagels and more await the lucky visitors, as well.

About the host

Host profile image
I have lived in Hudson, New York, since 1999. Hudson is a vibrant mini-city with arts, antiques, excellent restaurants, music, auctions, shops, and, of course, the Hudson River. Whether you want to scout stylish home decor or paint like a Hudson River School painter, you can do it here. I am happy to provide you with a tranquil, comfortable apartment steps from the center of town.

Why they chose this property

Because it's the only one with a House Fairy! who bears a striking resemblance to me, your hostess. I want you to be happy and comfortable. So please let me know the number of people in your party, or if it changes; the reason for your visit; and any other requests so that I can better accommodate your needs.

What makes this property unique

A More Perfect Union is located exactly mid-town on a safe, quiet street in an peaceful neighborhood abounding in wonderful old architecture. It's less than a minute's walk from the house to Warren Street, Hudson's burgeoning main drag with all its restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, antiques, fashions vintage and au courant for home and humans, and of course the Hudson River. The enclosed buddha garden offers a tranquil respite for breakfast, a barbecue, or relaxing at night with a glass of wine after coming home from a wedding.
