Ask a questionAbout Melissa Bailey
I bought this bit of paradise in 2001 and have been renovating the property since then. I'm so excited to now share this beautiful site with other travelers. I love to travel and have paid attention to what makes a place feel like home and to try to include those amenities that make a place feel special, warm and cozy. I fell in love with the property because of the view of the river. This location is right on the bend of the South Fork of the Skykomish River and comes right at you while your on your deck and goes by you. So you can look up the river and down the river. You can see Mt Index as you drive into the driveway but can't see it from your deck. But you can see the Cascades from your deck and Philadelphia Ridge. Just down the road is Sunset Falls that I walk my dog down to. I love this area and hope to share it with you.
Why Melissa Bailey chose Gold Bar
I bought this place because it was just beautiful and I always wanted to live in the woods. The best thing is that its close to town, the ski resort is just 25 min away. Leavenworth ( a cute little Bavarian styled town is just a little over an hour away over the pass). Seattle is about 55 min away if you wish to engage in the nightlife, shopping, or theater. Snohomish is about 45 min away and is quite the Antique town! Lots to do here. I love to hike and walk with my dog and feel like I'm just immersed in nature but yet close by some stores and culture too.
What makes this Studio unique
A breathtaking view of the river, since you are right on it. There is a small beach access just up the road and great to put in your innertube and float a bit. HIking is plentiful here with numerous hikes all around. Lake Serene Trailhead is just down the road. Heybrook is an easy hike up to a fire lookout tower. Barclay Lake is easy with just 2 miles and a gorgeous lake. The Iron Goat Trailhead is terrific for the history of our great railway and some wonderful view points. Plus in the winter Stevens Pass is just 20 min away! Kayaking and Rafting are plentiful and I'd highly recommend going. Its a full day of super fun. This is a class 5 river and wild at parts. You can walk around the wild parts if rapids have you scared. Its best to bring up your food and grill or cook here but there are plenty of restaurants that are between 8 and 20 miles away. Fishing and rock climbing and photography also are highlights of this destination. This is fairly private. I have a few neighbors. I'm close by but tree's and brush keep things private between the buildings. Satellite TV with new large flat screen tv, dvd player and free wifi makes things comfortable when the weather isn't conducive to being outside. A rocked in fireplace provides heat and ambience, there is also a split multi heater/AC. For those coffee/latte lovers there are numerous coffee places to get that favorite java up and down Hwy 2. The closest is probably just up the road past Index at The Espresso Chalet. I also have an electric charging station for those that have electric cars. I hope you'll come up and stay at South Fork Lodge.
