The Location: The location is very convenient to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center which is located above the Mount Vernon Metro station.

The Shaw Metro station is 3 blocks to the apartment. The largest grocery store in DC (Giant Foods) is about a 10 minute walk on P and 8th street.

The House:

This is a large house with four bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms have king beds and the smaller bedroom has a trundle bed with two twin beds. There are 3 full bathrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and the second full bath serves for the other bedrooms upstairs.

This house has a modern kitchen with high end stainless steel appliances, and a large dining room. This house is newly renovated with an open floor plan. The living room has pocket doors allowing you to close off the room, converting it to a private bedroom with a convertible sofa bed. The full bathroom is just a few steps away from the living room and has doors opening, to both, the dining room and the hallway.

There is a LED Smart TV with HBO, Netflix and other apps plus a 3D Blue-ray, DVD player also with smart apps in the living room. We have WIFI and Cable TV included in the package.

There is a two bedroom ground level apartment (no stairs) with its own kitchen and a full bath. The ground level apartment sleeps six people, which is rented separately, but could be rented together with the upstairs unit adding to the capacity of the house.

Great family gathering place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The townhouse was perfect for our family Thanksgiving gathering. There were six of us - 5 adults and 1 child. The space was perfect for us-lots of room, comfortable furnishings, well equipped kitchen, convenient to stores and restaurants and transportation. We will consider the space again the next time we come to D.C.

Great stay!

The place was awesome, very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. It was very convenient for our group going to the convention center.

Allen was an excellent host and was immediately available for anything that came up

Worked great for our family event

We were joined by four of our adult kids for a family event in DC. This rental worked out great for us. Allen, the owner, was there when we arrived and gave us the tour. The beds were comfy, the kitchen well equipped, plenty of room for six adults. The neighborhood is transitional but definitely on the way up. We had zero problems. Shaw, the neighborhood it's in is home to some of the best new dining in DC and a short drive to the big DC attractions. Giant grocery store is a few blocks walk away.

close to National Mall but needs TLC

Good for families, close to all sightseeing. Needs better care. bedrm with twin bed has light controls in master bdrm. Floors in kitchen were sticky, area rugs need cleaning, towels felt like loofa pads, needs new bed pillows, WiFi kept turning off. Would not recommend being out in neighborhood after dark.

Owner's Response: Gloria and her group were nice people. She couldn't find the light switch for a room where there are two switches, Couldn't find the towels (20 of them some brand new Tommy Hilfiger) and messed around with the internet router until she disabled it. All I had to do was to restart it. We change the pillows every two seasons. She never mentioned any of this so I could explain, show, demonstrate or fix them. The comment about the neighborhood is not correct and doesn't align with the views of all the other guests who stayed here before. There are folks jogging at all times of day and night where there has never been a security issues for any our guests since when we have been here (2010). Please read the reviews. It has been an unusually damp month with humidity at 90%-98% which contributes to all things feeling sticky. I do understand that they are from a dry area in California so not used to humidity in DC. On departure, Gloria forgot her bag on the sidewalk when she left in a vehicle. Luckily I arrived right after they were gone and was able to recover it and ended up shipping it to her. Hopefully at least she will give me a 5 star on that effort. This is the first 3 star we have received on this unit and I think it was not a fair and honest one but seemed more like a frustrated review.

Nice Home

The house suited our family of 6 adults who were arriving from different parts of the world. The house is easy to find and close to public transport which we used for our week in DC. The house was clean and the kitchen was a great space, with plenty of room and a variety of cooking utensils & cookware to provide meals for the family.

We enjoyed our time in the house, it could be a little noisy because of sirens but that is part of being in the middle of a city and this didn't cause a problem with sleeping as the beds are comfortable and the curtains were very good at blocking out the light.

Would definitely stay there again

The house was in a neighborhood close to downtown DC, quiet as well. The house was clean and nicely decorated. Beautiful old home with great updates. Beds are very comfortable and bathrooms very roomy. Upstairs, 3 large bedrooms and 2 full baths; one smaller bedroom upstairs also. There was also a sleeper sofa on the first floor and another full bath on the first floor as well. The owner returned our phone calls promptly and was very helpful in what ever we needed.

My family enjoyed the house very much; it was cozy and we felt at home there. I would recommend this home over a bunch of hotel rooms any day!

The redhead next to me is my wife Ana.

We have 2 daughters who are grown and are on their own ( not really, if you are a parent you know) and a 14 pound Schnoodle ( he thinks he is a giant). We have been living in the DC metro area for about 36 years and absolutely love it. Washington DC is a beautiful city, it really is and for people coming here to spend their vacations or attend conferences, weddings, funerals (The Arlington Cemetery), graduations, sight seeing, festivals etc. etc. there isn't any city that offers so much.

I manage the properties and Ana tells me what to do (!!!) We are a great team and enjoy doing what we do.

Why Allen chose U Street Corridor (Shaw)

This is a unique apartment. We gutted out the old house and redid the entire house including the lower floor. Everything you see here is less than a year old and it is designed with great care, taste and quality.

What makes this townhome unique

There are tons of shops, restaurants, and bars to go to that are in walking distance to the unit. There is also a grocery store (Giant Foods) down the street from the unit (7 minute walk).

The National Mall is an 11 minute car ride (without traffic), 25 minute metro ride, and 33 minute walk. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is an 11 minute walk to/from the unit.

There is a grocery store (Giant Foods) down the street from the unit; roughly 7 minute walk.
