Perfect romantic get away 5 minutes from Volcanoes National Park

Photos and Description of this Mauna Loa Estates holiday cottage

one bedroom private and cozy retreat cottage surrounded by greenery

The cottage is built 6 feet above ground on the front side (with 14 stairs up to the front door) and at ground level on the back side. It is all wood and glass with open beam construction. It’s tucked into mostly native forest of Hawaiian Ohia and Hapuu (Hawaii Tree Fern) that is glorious in the mountain sun. This little cottage has ten large picture windows to give it a beautiful, expansive, tree-top view of the surrounding trees and vibrant plant life. It has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a sitting room with an expansive outdoor view and a small bathroom with a tub/shower. There is an open veranda part way around the cottage as well as a back deck to relax and enjoy the late afternoon sun. The entire cottage is about 850 sq. ft. Very comfortable and spacious for two people

There are lots of nature walking trails and hiking trails in and around Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with one to the summit of Mauna Loa Volcano at almost 14000 feet - a rigorous 3 day backpacking trip. When the volcano is active, you can hike to see lava flowing inland or into the ocean. When visiting you should be prepared for hot and cold and dry and wet.

If you are planning to visit other areas of the Big Island, we have another vacation rental at the North East side of the Big Island. It is a perfect spot to explore hidden gems on the Hamakua Coast of this island. Check out our Rainbow Bee Farm Cottage at homeaway #3799114

We will be happy to answer any questions before and after your arrival. Feel free to contact us by phone or by email.

This is our own retreat cottage. We love it. We hope you'll enjoy it and care for it as we do. It is a place for quiet contemplation and meditative retreat with a feeling of serenity both inside and outside.

Whether you decide to visit with us or not,

we send you our Aloha,

Richard and Candice

Nice stay in Volcano

  • 5 of 5

I had more cottage time than I had originally intended because of the rough weather, but this was a lovely place to take shelter! I especially enjoyed the forest setting and the lovely picture window out back. Lots of nice touches in the cottage too.

Relaxing next to a volcano!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the volcano cottage. Such a quiet, relaxing environment and we were just a few minutes from Volcanoes National Park! Our favorite restaurant (Kileaua Lodge Restaurant) was also really close by...great breakfast and lunch (didn't make it to dinner). The cottage had everything we needed. There was even fresh ground coffee and chocolate macnuts to greet us! We would like to thank the owners for their attention to detail (loved the towel warmer/dryer and all the gets chilly at night). I will highly recommend this property to everyone I know!

This Place in Volcano is Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

I never dreamed I would stay in a two day rental that was so awesome. I mean they thought of EVERYTHING! The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up. They "gave" me new slippers, great coffee. And it was like living outside in this giant fern jungle. Just minutes away from an active volcano. How do I tell anyone else! If you get a chance, have the good luck to stay in this totally amazing clean comfortable "home" - do it!

The only thing I didn't like is that I couldn't stay longer. That I had to go out. We added it to our list of things to do - stay at this outside inside magical place. Thank You

Romantic cabin in the rain forest

  • 5 of 5

The attention to detail is amazing. All the amenities are so convenient, from the slippers in the entry hall, to the kitchen designed with everything we need right at our fingertips. The home is nestled among the trees and flowers, with no neighbors in sight, providing a quiet retreat. Our most romantic getaway ever. This home is perfect size for one or two people.

Peaceful retreat in a rainforest paradise!

  • 5 of 5

There is so much attention to detail to the comfort and convenience of guests staying at this serene rainforest sanctuary. The cozy cabin is equipped with everything needed for a secluded getaway...whether you are on a couple on your honeymoon, a writer needing focused space, or even "kama 'aina" (Hawaiian meaning "from the land") will feel nurtured and rejuvenated here. This cottage is located just a short drive from the entrance of the Volcano National Park. Other area attractions include Punaluu Black Sand Beach, a lovely orchid greenhouse, South Point (with it's beautiful green sand beach), the serene Buddhist temple in Pahala, Kau coffee plantations, and a half hour drive to Hilo. We will DEFINITELY stay here again, as well as recommend this to our family and friends. Richard and Candice are fabulous hosts who truly care about their guests. Mahalo nui loa! (Thank you very much!)
