Stay on the water’s edge in our new Lucky Loon Boat House.
Sitting in the living area is like sitting in an “observation lounge” with an unobstructed view of Frederick Sound. Whales are often seen right off the tide line. Heated floors keep you cozy, while relaxing in your recliner with all the comforts of home. Two bedrooms offer Queen beds with water views. The kitchen area highlights the work of a local cabinetmaker, and a local welder. The fully equipped kitchen includes a Viking stove and offers many options for cooking our fine local seafood. Or perhaps you prefer to BBQ in the covered patio while watching the sunset. Off road parking, Satellite TV, and Wifi, of course.
Petr and I have lived in Alaska for over 30 years now, first in the Aleutians, and now here on the shores of Frederick Sound.
Louise purchased this apartment in 2006
We homesteaded our house when Frederick Point had no road or power. We got the road in 2000 and electricity about 5 years ago. We have enjoyed meeting guests who come from all over the world.
The water's edge is right out front and town is a few short miles away. Deer, eagles, seals, sea lions and whales can be seen from the living area and bedrooms.
The manager was easy to contact. Wonderful accommodations and SPECTACULAR view. Anyone spending time in Petersburg should definitely stay at the Lucky Loon!
This is a small, out of the way cabin with a fabulous view of the wilderness. Great place to get away from everything. After touring the islad, there is no doubt there isn'the a better place to stay. The whales, sea lions, seals, deer, eagles, the list goes on. The house was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed to feel right at home. I highly recommend it. Thank you, Louise, for being such an awesome hostess!
The house and views were as good if not better than pictured.
A quiet place out of town.
All of the things you need.
Clean, comfortable and homey.
A place to escape reality.
Petersburg was beautiful and the locals were very friendly.
We enjoyed fishing with Dan from Secret Cove Charters.
A few good places in town to eat but the boat house has all the appliances and cookware you need to make home cooked meals.
Louise was a great hostess and is there if you have any questions or need anything!
I cannot wait to return to the Lucky Loon Boat House.
From the minute one strolls onto the Boat House’s covered porch, a million dollar expansive view of Frederick Sound and mainland mountains is the first thing to greet guests. Trust me, you may never want to leave the cozy porch. Toss on one of the warm throws hostess Louise thoughtfully provides and just watch the tide rise and fall accompanied by the music of calling eagles and croaking ravens. It is magical, perhaps the best psychiatrist’s couch in the world for letting one’s cares slip away!
A gracious hostess, Louise is helpful as well as thoughtful toward her guests. Beds are comfortable. Happily there are nightstands on either side of the bed for eyeglasses/books/etc and reading lamps are also thoughtfully placed on either side of the bed. Louise has furnished the bedrooms with attractive, coordinated linens. Her attention to detail and good taste impressed me; this is no “early garage sale/clear out grandma’s basement” type of rental property. Artistic flair is on display with attractive art displayed on the walls, all coordinating with the house’s color palette. Bold splashes of color create interest; vivid turquoise, warm orange and green hues are found here and there in dining chairs, artifacts and even doors, providing visual impact in this lovely property.
For those planning on cooking while at the BoHo, a full kitchen is available (no dishwasher though). A charcoal grill is located just outside the porch for grilling wild Alaskan salmon or perhaps the halibut you just caught.
Wifi is provided to guests at the BoHo. The signal was strong and reliable.
One thing that appeals greatly to me as well is having a washer and dryer at the BoHo. It surely beats having to truck all one’s clothing to the local laundromat.
If weather is chilly and raw one may wish to forsake the inviting covered porch to relax in the main living room. Large picture windows provide expansive views across Frederick Sound. After a long day on the water watching whales one can sink into very comfortable chairs with plenty of seating for all guests. There is a television mounted on the wall but I confess to never having turned it on during my week long stay at the BoHo. The show going on outside the house was just too good to spend time gazing at the tv.
One helpful hint for you….the driveway to the BoHo is steep so I found that backing down the hill slowly(!) seemed to be the easiest way to navigate the steep driveway.
Great house with even better views! Very nicely decorated and very comfortable!! Louise always makes sure that you have what you need and has given us advice on fishing, hiking, etc. And all of the advice has been excellent! Highly recommend!
We were lucky enough to be the second guests in this newly constructed restored boat house. This place was simply amazing and view was absolutely breathtaking! The location is ideal because it is not to far out of town to deter you from doing the tourist stuff, yet it is just enough out of town where you feel isolated in your own cabin on the water. In fact outside on the viewing deck I felt so comfortable, I fell asleep on more than one occasion while listening to whales singing and other wildlife naturally chirping away. Louise is great host and made sure we had everything we needed and was always willing to help with local tourist type information. On a side note, because of the fantastic weather on our trip (sunny and in the mid 70's) I was also able to catch some beautiful photos using my quad-copter. The tranquil natural setting made for some amazing photographs. I highly recommend this breathtakingly beautiful bungalow to anybody visiting Petersburg Alaska.
Incredible view of Frederick Sound with the Canadian Rockies in the background.
