Epic fail

  • 1 of 5

Brown scum was floating on top of the water in the hot tub when we arrived. Cell-phone reception is only available in town or on top of the hill, but not at the cabin. If you enjoy being totally cut off from civilization, by all means, please stay at this place. WIFI, Internet and a landline were advertised on the website, yet were not available at the cabin. Upon checking the connections, we realized that the Internet cable was cut and a 20 ft. section was missing. The owner told us that it is not his responsibility to offer technical support to fix the connection and blamed us for having bad equipment and being stupid for not knowing how it works. After several rude and disrespectful exchanges he agreed to send out a technician. Soon after he demanded that we pay $75 for it. We declined, but he sent the technician anyway on day five of the week vacation. He insisted that the services need to be fixed for the next guest. Obviously WE were not as important as the next guest. Talking to the technician it turns out that the cable was supposed to be relocated previously, but it was not done when we arrived. He previously cut the cable himself and he assured me that we did not do anything wrong. He also told me that the visit was free and the owner has three other cabins that he could have relocated us to, but that option was never mentioned. The worst part is that I checked with the owner before the reservation was made to make sure that the services that are important to us were available and we were assured that everything is in working order. Bottom line, we wasted most of our vacation staying at the cabin waiting for the technician and driving around to get some limited activities arranged in person since the Internet was not available. I ended up spending my anniversary with the technician (super nice guy) and that was the highlight of the vacation!!!!!!

Owner's Response: I'm sorry your stay was disappointing. We work very hard to provide the best possible guest experience, as evidenced by our consistently high ratings. We have never had a problem with the wi-fi previously. Your son complicated troubleshooting the wi-fi issue when he chose to reset the router before you even told me about any problems. In the future, you should leave tech support to the pros. They were able to restore wi-fi so your son could play Xbox for most of the week. In the future, you probably should stay in town to get good cell reception.

Great Stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful three day stay! It is a perfect distance away from the Ski Brule - only a couple of blocks. We brought our 3 kids and they had an amazing time. The chalet was perfect size with all the amenities you would need. Hot tub was great to come back to after a long day of skiing. Highly recommend! We will be back. - Bob - Downers Grove, IL

Cozy and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

I took my three teenagers for a week of skiing at Brule Mountain. This property had everything we needed for a fantastic week - two bedrooms plus a very comfortable trundle/daybed, a hot tub, fireplace and fast wifi - all just a few hundred yards from the ski area. Everything is clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed for basic meal preparation and there were plenty of towels and pillows. Iron River is about a 15 minute drive away and you can stock up on groceries at one of the two supermarkets there. Note that some of the dining establishments take cash only. We found out the hard way when I went to pick up a couple pizzas at the place in town that everyone recommended and found they only took cash. Of course I had forgotten to take my ATM card with me....

We were only able to ski for two days before an arctic front came through. Unfortunately, most activities around Iron River are outdoors; even the nearest movie theatre is 25-30 miles away. -6 degrees before the wind chill was just a little too cold to have fun on the slopes or take part in the Brule tubing and sleigh ride activities, but it was not too cold to play games, watch movies, and even still enjoy the hot tub. I was pleasantly surprised how warm and cozy we were inside the house. The owners have provided some games, puzzles and movies plus they have satellite TV.

We had no issues or need to contact the owner while we were there and we got our deposit back promptly. I will definitely come back the next time we come up to the area!
