Why Louis chose Faubourg Marigny
To us, this is not just a vacation rental, it is our longtime home. Our little family has lived in the back apartment for 16 years, and both of our children (now teenagers) took their first steps in this wonderful home. We honestly cannot imagine living anywhere else -- New Orleans just has everything you can possibly want to lead a productive, creative, fun and exciting life. The Hurricane Katrina experience only quickened our resolve to protect and appreciate our beloved city more than ever, and we like nothing more than to act as good will ambassadors and hosts to those who share our affection for this greatest of American cities.
What makes this Apartment unique
On the day we moved into our home, the first thing I noticed was the sound of a trumpet playing. It turned out to be one of our first neighbors, an old-time jazzman who liked to practice out in his yard -- of course, none of the neighbors protested such a beautiful sound. Likewise, the sound of an approaching brass band or second line parade is not uncommon here, and neither is the sound of calliope music wafting through the air from the Steamboat Natchez on the Mississippi River. The music venues of Frenchmen Street (only three blocks away) can always keep boredom at bay. We take frequent walks through the historic French Quarter that is nearby, and are amazed at how we are always able to discover something new, no matter how many times we take these walks. Having home schooled our kids up to high school, we are in the habit of taking them on weekly trips to the museums (many of which are walking distance), or the Aquarium (a short streetcar ride or long walk from our home), or the Audubon Zoo (which is uptown, so a streetcar or automobile is the best way to get there). It is also great to have Washington Square Park such a short walk away, and the immense City Park (which also houses the New Orleans Museum of Art) is just a short drive away. Really, there is so much to love about living here that I could go on and on.
