About Lee

We live in Atlanta but have two vacation rentals in Monroe County Tennessee catering to adventurous folks, like us, are looking for seclusion and solitude in the Cherokee National Forest and the cool mountain air. hemlockgrovedotcom.

Lee purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Lee chose Tennessee

We own a cabin nearby. We purchased the vacation rentals because of their location and to help promote the forest, mountain and lake scenery of Monroe Country Tennessee.

What makes this cottage unique

Gorgeous views. Light, spacious house. Restful setting. Clean and comfortable! Great motorcycling, hiking, mountain biking, boating, fishing or just plain old relaxing. Bountiful birds and wildlife. Free wifi and long distance telephone through Magic Jack. Garage to store kayaks, bikes, motorcycles, canoes, boats etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What an absolutely incredible stay we have had! We have seen more critters here than all the times we have spent in Townsend/Cosby put together! Rabbits, deer running through the back yard, otter crossing the road right before the driveway, and FIVE baby wild pigs in the back yard (mom stayed in the underbrush)! And FIREFLIES!! NEVER saw any at the other places and we never see them anymore in Florida, so the fireflies dancing took both my husband and myself back to our childhoods when they could still be found in Central Fla. We also had a HUGE moth whacking the kitchen window one night. We just sat at the table and watched it. Found the Smoky Branch/White Plains Rd shortcuts that cut off some of the miles. Don't care for Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg as we love quiet and scenery, so we had to make our pilgrimage to Cades Cove, our favorite place! Thank you so much for the wonderful memories we have from our stay at Lakewood!

Incredible vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We knew this was in a remote river valley and that is why we ended up loving it! First impression beautiful piece of property with lovely plantings. The outside of the house was pleasingly welcoming. As we walked in we were blown away! Bluegrass music was playing, there were beautiful wildflowers and an incredible gift basket and we thoroughly enjoyed every one of them! The place was impeccably cleaned. The bed was very comfy (and I usually have problems with the mattresses being hard) and we slept soundly. Double car garage was really nice but couldn't get our van in but that was okay as there was a super nice security light in the front yard. All that was nice but the top thing for us was the critters: fireflies galore, rabbits, otter, deer in the yard, baby wild pigs in the backyard.....it was a dream vacation for us. The owner was friendly and made sure we had all the info we needed and called to make sure we made it okay as well as half way to make sure we didn't need anything. We loved our TN vacation, but it was made even better because we found Lakeside!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review Cindy! We are so happy that you and Eddie found Lakewood Cottage the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your vacation for 12 nights. It's fantastic and rare that you saw wild boar piglets! I think the only thing you missed seeing were Smoky Mountain black bear, which are seen periodically. But I want to thank you for leaving the cottage in such incredible shape! Please come back and experience a different season like Fall or Spring. We welcome you back any time you choose, just be sure that you come back! Lee

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We were supposed to check in late but Lee worked hard so we could get in the house earlier...and that he did. We were coming down the driveway and Lee was heading out. Lee is a very nice man, talked to us a bit before he left. Kept in constant communication with us from the time of booking until the day we checked out. The house was perfect, fit the description of the property exactly. Lee left us a very nice welcome basket!!! We were a group of six adults, plenty of room for us all, 4 motorcycles fit nicely in the garage. Got a lot of use out of the large back deck during our down time. Could not have asked for anything more. Spacious and well taken care of inside and out. Will definitely rebook this property when we comeback. Not a deal breaker by any means, but my only concern would be the stone drive way for any new riders on a motorcycle (we drove down the grass).

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review! We are happy that you were pleased and comfortable and had safe travels. Many groups of riders have stayed with us and everyone loves the scenic rides and beautiful roads in the area. Thank you for leaving the cottage in great shape! We welcome you back any time! (We have never had anyone mention the crushed stone driveway before. Maybe we will consider getting it paved. We hope that doesn't scare any riders away since the grass is a great solution and it is only about 200 feet long. ) Many more happy trails to you!

Beautiful and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

The area was a little out of the way, but was a peaceful place to be. We enjoyed the quite of the woods. We were hoping to see wild life, but because of the time of year, we understood that most of wild life would stays higher up were it was cooler. The property was clean, the house was also clean and had plenty of space for 6 adults. Enjoy the motorcycles rides we took into the mountains. We went with only the intention of riding which we did. All restaurants that we ate at were good. No complaints there. The attractions were the Smokey Mountain itself . We did almost all of the motorcycles trails that were shown to us. Still have a lot we didn't see, but that is for another time. For someone who wants peace and quite this property is the best and I would recommend it to family and friends.
