Great place - Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our stay here. We arrived 1 hour before check-in. Cleaning service was very accommodating in letting us drop off our luggage while we went to do more activities. The old Edwardian flat is very charming and just 1 block from the Painted Ladies. The flat is centrally located with Union Square, The Wharf, AT&T Park, Ocean Beach, Mission Dist., all about a $20 Uber ride away. I would definitely consider staying here again as long as we did not have a car to park. Which brings me to our only issue and why this is a 4 star vs 5 star rating.

When planning our vacation we knew we would not really need/want a car while in SF for 3 days but would need one for the 2nd part of our trip to drive to Sacramento and Sonoma. Through my job I am able to get group rates for car rentals so it was cheaper to rent a car from SFO for a full week vs renting from another location in the city for only 3 days provided we did not have to pay for parking. Therefore, it was our intent to park the car the 3 days in SF and use Uber to get around. Before reserving the property I had specifically asked if parking on the street would require a permit or was it ok for a vehicle to sit parked and unmoved for 2-3 days without being ticketed/towed until we needed it to head north. I was told that no permit was required and that I only needed to be aware of the street cleaning restrictions that happen once a week. Upon our arrival we learned that a permit was, in fact, needed. Cars can only be parked for 2 hours from 8am to 4pm on weekdays unless you have a Q Permit. This meant we had to move the car during the day and return late afternoon in order to get a parking spot for overnight. Marilyn did apologize for the bad information and sincerely offered suggestions for our predicament. In the end I don't believe this created any extra expense as we found economical parking options using Parking Panda... $17 in the Wharf from 8am until 10pm which equals what we likely would have paid for an Uber. However, it did put a disruption in our day. We had to take a break from our plans to return "home" so that we could find a parking spot before they were all taken. We then had to Uber it back to wherever we were headed next. I either would have booked another property with parking or have not rented a car for those 3 days if I had known of the permit requirements beforehand. For this reason only, I would not recommend this property if you plan to have a car.

Absolutely Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time staying at Stafford House. Our hosts were absolutely wonderful! We wanted to share the experience with our children of staying in a traditional Edwardian style home in the city. What a treat! The place has real charm and is within one block walking distance from the famous "Painted Ladies" in San Francisco. The circular turret window was so cool! Our kids loved it. Great Neighborhood! All of the homes in this area are very nice. The street is somewhat busy with some traffic noise, but we did not mind one bit.... all part of the experience of staying in the city. Without hesitation, we would definitely stay here again if we make another trip to San Francisco!

Home with character!

  • 5 of 5

If you are like my family and everyone gets up at different times and goes to bed at different times this place was perfect. I am an early riser and able to make my coffee without waking everyone up.

Now for Marilyn and how accommodating she was. We were able to drop our luggage off early and start our sight seeing right away. The downstairs neighbors son was very nice and even offered to help with our luggage as it was my sister and my young daughter with me.

Lastly the house. It is an old home with character. For me it took me back to when I was in my 20's right out of college and rented a house built in the 1920's. It had character and details. Now a days everything is modern and misses the detailing that used to go into building a house. Is it a little loud? A little, but nothing to keep you awake at night. I would recommend it. As for transportation, we used public transportation from the muni/subway to the cable cars to the Trolley and ending with Lyft. No need for a car with all these options.

Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Stafford House was better than expected. It was very spacious, and clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. Although not too close to Fisherman's Wharf, it is an easy walk to Golden Gate Park, the painted ladies, and many restaurants. It is a block from Alamo park where you can pick up public transit to anywhere for $2.50/person.

Map

The unit is less than a block from Alamo Square Park and the Painted Ladies. The 2 story red Hop on, Hop off bus as well as 4 central bus lines are less than a block away.

You are truly staying in the city center here, with both the Civic Center and Golden Gate Park - along with many good restaurants) within walking distance. (5- 30 minutes for most people)
