The owners- an attorney and a pediatrician - have lived in this home over 30 years. Much of the time was spent parenting their four sons. In the '80's the family restored the home from a shingled exterior to its former glory, doing much of the work with their own hands.
Jan continures in medical practice, but has become a water-color artist and you will see some of her work displayed in the flat. Emerson continues to teach Law Bar Review courses and enjoy his talent on guitar.
The family has traveled much of the world together - visiting over 40 countries.

The Stafford home is such a perfect home away! We were all so comfortable here and our dog enjoyed it too!
The location is perfect with the Painted Ladies just a few steps away. For dinner, we walked to local neighborhood restaurants.
We hope to come back to this beautiful city and stay at the Stafford House again!
My two sons and two dogs stayed here over spring break. The house worked great for us and was central to all our SF sites. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. Some other reviews commented on noise. I found it no more noisy than any other SF unit however, if you are use to quiet, SF can be a bit noisy. Hope to stay here again!

The home is centrally located in San Francisco with easy access to all tourist attractions. Haight Ashbury is two blocks away, The DeYoung Museum, California Institute of Science and Japanese Gardens are an easy 15 minute walk and the homes rounded oriel bay window provides a view of Alamo Square. Free on street parking was also easily available. As an architect I was extremely impressed with the owners respectful restoration of the property. The historic character details were clearly preserved while adding all the modern conveniences one would expect of a comfortable vacation home. We where a party of five and the homes spacious floor plan provided plenty of privacy and comfort. Marilyn provided great instructions for check in and check out as well as all pertinent information for guests who are not familiar with San Francisco.
My parents, brother, sister, and her husband and two kids (6 and 1) made Stafford House their home base during our November wedding. It was the perfect combination of location, size, simplicity, and flexibility that we needed. Everyone was very comfortable, and we appreciated the ability to do a little laundry, and having a little extra time to clean out our stuff on check-out day.
The owner was very acccommodating by being flexible with checkin times to suit our flight/arrival times. A great experience staying in such a grand apartment located not far from the more chaotic downtown area. A central, convenieng location just blocks away from cafes and buses, and a short taxi/uber ride to most points of interest. A great way to start and end the day
The unit is less than a block from Alamo Square Park and the Painted Ladies. The 2 story red Hop on, Hop off bus as well as 4 central bus lines are less than a block away.
You are truly staying in the city center here, with both the Civic Center and Golden Gate Park - along with many good restaurants) within walking distance. (5- 30 minutes for most people)
