Lovely, comfortable, well located, beautifully appointed

  • 4 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay at this property. One of the bedrooms shares a door (which was locked, so security was not a concern) with the adjacent apartment which was a bit disconcerting as we could hear the conversations as if they were in the same room. Other than that, the apartment was really lovely, clean and very comfortable.

Beautiful historic home, Lovely Neighborhood, Great location and view of the city from Alamo park!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Edward house. This was my first time visiting SF and I wanted to stay in a Victorian style home and not a hotel. The home was beautiful as expected and my parents, nephew, husband and I were very comfortable having our own bedrooms. The flat is on the second floor, but it's not too many steps up, and there is only 1 bathroom. The house is ½ a block from Alamo square & the popular Painted Ladies Victorian homes. We met the neighbors whom were very friendly & welcoming. The home is on a busy street so take earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Also the main entrance goes into a bedroom which was kind of odd, but we had no problem with it since you can use the back entry through the garden that goes to the kitchen. Marylin was very responsive and accommodating to our needs.

A few tips from our trip:

*The day before flying to SF, I placed an online order for groceries to be delivered upon our arrival through Instacart. This was the first time I used this service and it worked our really well for us. There are a few small markets a few blocks away, but the house is on top of a hill so you don't want to carry too many bags.

* Friends recommended we not rent a car because of traffic/parking; so we took the BART from the airport to Civic station; and then the # 21 bus to the Steiner & Hays stop. The bus stop was just outside Civic station. When you get off the bus it's an easy 2 min. walk to the house. We didn’t have a car seat for our toddler so this worked great for us. You need small bills & change for the bus, the BART takes credit cards. We rarely use public transit at home, but this was a great way to see more of the neighborhoods. Also, I believe street parking is not available on Steiner street. So you might want to do some research if you have a car.

*Day 1 we took a bus (stop was 2 blocks away & a 10 min. bus ride) to Golden Gate park, and walked back to the house though the Haigh and Ashbury neighborhood (apprx. 45 min.)

*Day 2 I had bought the Go City Card SF on Groupon which included the Big Bus Hop on/off & access to many museums/attractions. The hop on/off bus stop is ½ a block from the house (3 min walk) on Steiner & Fell Street, you'll find signs by the mosaic mural behind the HS. We also took the last Big B bust back home. This was a great way to see the city.

Our stay was very short, but we had a wonderful time. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to SF. Thank you!

Wonderful stay in historical home

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was perfect for all of our family to get together and visit. We understood that we were staying in an older home and enjoyed its little idiosyncrasies. The owner was very gracious and the permanent resident was also very welcoming and tried hard to keep his dog quiet. The street is a busy street and can be a little noisy at night.

Beautiful historic home in a fantastic part of the city

  • 4 of 5

Overal the home was very cozy in a beautiful parr of the city. The owners and others in the building were very friendly and helpful. Our favorite thing to do was was eat and visit at the table at the corner window. Great spot for my mother and i to meet up with my friends from Australia.

Map

The unit is less than a block from Alamo Square Park and the Painted Ladies. The 2 story red Hop on, Hop off bus as well as 4 central bus lines are less than a block away.

You are truly staying in the city center here, with both the Civic Center and Golden Gate Park - along with many good restaurants) within walking distance. (5- 30 minutes for most people)
