About Barbara Tennant
Owners are architects and builder of the property. While new construction in Marfa is a challenging undertaking, the result is well worth the effort.
Barbara Tennant purchased this House in 2005
Why Barbara Tennant chose Marfa
We fell in love with Marfa on our first visit and traveled back to the town from Houston two weeks later to purchase land and begin our project. The sun is dependable in Marfa. Days are always bright and nights are cool in the summer. The landscape of this area includes broad vistas that inspire artists and photographers.
What makes this House unique
Our home, situated at a highpoint outside of town offers an amazing view of the surrounding plateau. The home is cozy and has everything you may need for a comfortable stay. A Rumsford fireplace in the living area adds to the relaxing atmosphere in the winter. The 14' adobe walls keep the home cool and comfortable in the summer months. Sit in the middle of the south courtyard on a moonless night and ponder the Milky Way.

Great Marfa house.
Exactly as described. Very close (3 miles) to the middle of town, yet far enough away to be VERY quiet and peaceful. Great place to relax. And the stars at night were fantastic.
Beautiful house, as described. Easy access to town with a remote vibe. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely perfect. I’d come back again. The views are stunning. It’s quiet. And the house is gorgeous. Barbara was easy to work and communicate with. A wonderful experience.
Beautiful view, beautiful home.
With all there was to explore, I had a difficult time understanding why others said they found it hard to leave the house. That is, until we arrived. The setting is perfect - just far enough from town that you can enjoy the peace of the surroundings, but close enough to run to town if needed. We cooked a few meals in the well appointed kitchen, enjoyed coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings. My boys enjoyed exploring and searching for interesting rocks. The sunsets were breathtaking. It was the perfect starting point for adventures in Fort Davis and Alpine. We even took a Jeep trail from Marfa to Ruidoso, TX.
The property was clean, well-maintained and Barbara was a delight to speak with. We packed a lot into a long weekend and are eager to return.
Private, with great views and only 5 min from Marfa
This was a great house and it truly accommodated our stay. We wanted a “desert” experience but also wanted to be close to the town of Marfa. This house provides both. The views are gorgeous and the drive to town is 5 minutes max. The house itself is modern with a desert/southwestern vibe. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were nice and clean. There is no tv or WiFi, but we preferred that! We were able to enjoy each other’s company on the patios with gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. Barbara was very responsive and helpful! We had a great time and miss Marfa and the house already!
High desert experience
I keep coming back to this wonderful house with its expansive view and proximity to Marfa.
Many of our renters spend the majority of their time enjoying the view and the peacefulness of our location. The sunsets are amazing. The sun rises and sets almost an hour later than regular CST because we are at the edge of Mountain time. Wonderful place to relax and get away from it all!
