About Jeanine Clendenen

We recently purchased Snowy Bluff, a spacious cabin located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Black Hills is one of our favorite destinations for our family and we are excited to use the cabin so we can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. As the original owners of Snowy Bluff have in the past, we will continue to operate Snowy Bluff as a rental cabin for others to enjoy as well. This cabin has been second home and rental property since it was built in 2001. Snowy Bluff is located in Lead, South Dakota and is near snowmobile trail 7A, a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Mickelson Trail, and quick drive away from the ski slopes, golf, fishing and the night life of Deadwood. Some of our families favorite things to enjoy in the area are: Snowmobiling, fishing at Pactola Lake, tubing at Mystic Mountain, skiing at Terry Peak and of course, historic Deadwood.

Jeanine Clendenen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jeanine Clendenen chose Lead

One of the main attractions we had to Snowy Bluff was the 9+ acres that came with the property. The private land allows us to enjoy a breathtaking view of the black hills and the abundant wild life of South Dakota. We live only 2 hours away and have always had a special place in our heart for the black hills, making it an easy decision to own a property here for our family to enjoy.

What makes this cabin unique

One of the unique benefits we love about Snowy Bluff is the tranquility we feel on the deck. There are no other cabins in your view, just the beauty of the black hills. Yet, it is not far off the beaten path to enjoy all there is to do in the area. The cabin has a rustic feel, yet all the comforts of home are there to enjoy. An added feature is the garage space to use for all your gear, whether it be mountain bikes, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers, ski/snowboarding or for golf. After you enjoy a day of adventure, you can relax in the outdoor hot tub on the patio.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved everything about Snowy Bluff. Our favorite part was sitting around and hanging with great friends. The hot tub was very relaxing and stayed warm while we sat in it for hours. We loved the switchback road to get up here. The boys felt like they were teenagers again. Five Stars!!! Wish we had more time to spend at the cabin and explore.

Notes:
Snowy Bluff is a great cabin rental for large families or groups. Sleeps 12 comfortably with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. The road directly to the cabin includes 7 gravel switchbacks. Once on top of Snowy Bluffs Road, you cannot see another cabin from our cabin. The road is also a dead end so you and your guests can enjoy peace and quiet with nature. The road is maintained all year long. However, 4-wheel drive is required in the winter time. If your party is pulling a trailer, chains are recommended. Our private road leading to the cabin is steep and graveled. Motorcyclists are to drive with caution.

It was nice BUT

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is beautiful! The setting is perfect but we had a few issues with the property. 1st when you rent on VRBO it says it’s in lead,sd which is an hour away from rapid city and a lot of attractions. Once you get the address you’re driving an additional 25 min up a mountain. So location was not good for us because we spent 3 hours in the car everyday driving to attractions. Second there is no A/C or WiFi. Let me say when we arrived it was about 80 degrees in the house because it was 97 outside!

Finally the instructions on what needed to be done on the house prior to checking out was extensive, we also had to place the trash cans outside on Thursday the trash day? Finally, the toaster was broken so breakfast was really limited for the kids and we had to microwave waffles and some food we bought went to waste because of that. Every house we have rented on VRBO has had “essentials” like ketchup, mustard, coffee, things that people typically leave. This one had nothing, so that was a bit suprising to me..

But the house was big and perfect for our group of 9. The hot tub was also really nice in the evening to relax. I just personally would not rent this place again.

Owner's Response: We advertise on this site with truth and honesty. We have always put our correct location on this site and proximity away from major tourism attractions and towns. We accurately describe our cabin to our potential customers. If this customer would have read our description on this site, they would have known that the cabin does not have air, nor do we provide WIFI, and our exact location. Snowy Bluff Cabin is at a high elevation in the Black Hills. Even on hot summer days, the air at this elevation cools down quite a bit in the evening/night. All windows open to allow the cool fresh breeze in and fans are provided to help circulate that air. Groceries are never provided for the safety of our customers. However, dish soap, dishwasher soap, hand soap, laundry soap, paper towels and toilet paper are provided. Yes, we do have a garbage day with receptacles located next to the garage. We do ask our guests to put their trash in the garbage bins so it may be collected , especially for larger parties who may have accumulated a lot of trash during their stay. This is not required, but shared with our guests for their convenience. The toaster was checked over twice and was and is in working order.

A Beautiful Escape!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay at Snowy Bluffs! The accommodations were very comfortable, spacious, and relaxing. The beautiful views from the deck were probably our favorite part of the house. The switchbacks weren't hard to navigate either. Thanks for a great weekend!

Very good.

  • 4 of 5

It was very nice other than it was very cold. We had a hard time getting it warm in there, due to the extreme temperatures outside.

Our family went for a late Christmas holiday and we loved it! Very private area, the roads, though snowy were well kept. The owner was very responsive before and during our stay for a couple question.
