A Large Highly Secluded Oasis Less than 13 Miles From Downtown Asheville!
About Rich Brownstein
My name is Rich, and I am a 36 year old full time musician. I started piano lessons at the age of 4, and graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy. I got my undergraduate degree from NYU where I studied jazz piano and music technology. I grew up right outside of Boston, and although I haven't lived there in nearly 16 years, I'm a die hard Boston sports fan. After graduating NYU I got a job working for the legendary Cafe Wha? (where Jimi Hendrix was discovered, and Bob Dylan played his first shows in NYC) in New York City, where I was responsible for booking talent, marketing the club, customer inquiries, and the head agent for The Cafe Wha? House Band. As the head agent, I was in charge of hiring the band out for weddings, private functions, corporate events etc. If you're ever in NYC, make sure to check them out! When I was 27, I wanted to pursue my dream of being a touring musician. Myself, and my girlfriend at the time who was the lead singer, convinced the entire band to leave their lives in New York, and move into a house together in Asheville NC. We played over 300 shows together and traveled as far south as Key West, and as far north as Boston. I love virtually all sports, delicious food, sitting by the fire and reading, and spending time with my family just to name a few.
Rich Brownstein purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Rich Brownstein chose Fairview
I sold the condo I bought in Brooklyn in the middle of 2014, and was looking for a great investment property. Originally I was looking at multi unit apartments, duplexes etc. but I quickly realized it wasn't something I was excited about. My realtor, who is now a very good friend of mine, showed me this property, now called The Roost, and I thought, 'wow, this would be an incredible vacation rental!' The other obvious benefit is when it isn't rented, I'd be able to leave my small apartment in Asheville and spend time here. It was a no brainer really. For 2 straight months, myself, girlfriend and a few friends remodeled the entire basement. We ripped up carpets, installed beautiful new floors, painted the whole house (at 3200 sq. ft thats a lot of painting!), and cleaned for what seemed like an eternity. I wanted to make The Roost the ultimate getaway, and since I plan to stay here when it's not rented, I've made every effort to do just that!
What makes this Cabin unique
I love The Roost because it is close to downtown Asheville, but has the feeling you're in the middle of nowhere. The extended driveway (probably 1/4 of a mile or more) is shared with only 1 other house, and since The Roost lies at the end of the driveway, no cars other than people you are expecting pass through. The previous owner invested tens of thousands of dollars in landscaping, so the property is full of all types of fruit trees, flowers, and exotic plants. The hiking trails are really enjoyable to walk on, and on a clear night, the stars shine brighter than any place I've been before. The inside of the cabin itself feels very homey, and I loved the idea of entertaining guests, which is easy given its size. The first people to stay at the house were my girlfriends entire family over Christmas (16 to be exact), and it didn't feel cramped at all. The wrap around deck is accessible from the two main bedrooms on the first floor, which is wonderful as well. I looked at dozens of properties, and as soon as I saw this one, I just knew it was the one. I haven't regretted it for a second. It's an incredible home, and wonderful place to lay your head.

Great cabin for relaxation. Great location
Our family of five stayed over the New Years weekend. Plenty of room for the three teenagers to sleep in while the parents could get up early, build a fire or go for hike. Between the grill, hot tub, foosball, pool, poker and big screen TV with Netflix we had plenty to do. Its a pretty straightforward 20 minute drive to Asheville and Biltmore House. Kitchen is loaded with equipment and spices. This was a top notch choice. Would be great all 4 seasons.
Fun with family
Our family is spread out from Alabama to Virginia, so we found this Asheville property the perfect middle ground. There was plenty of space for 4 young boys to play inside and out as well as for adult game time in the spacious downstairs room. The kitchen was well stocked, making it easy for us to cook and feed ourselves. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms perfect. The property was beautiful, tucked into a long, private drive. We loved our trip! Oldest grandson, WIlliam, has already requested coming to this cabin again!
It was fun for all...perfect place for a family gathering.
Noel/Nietubyc Family Asheville Vacation
The Roost was a perfect place for us to stay. It was very well appointed and had all of the amenities of home. In fact, we did not expect it to have everything we could think about so we brought along some things we would need--totally unnecessary!
The cottage is surrounded by woods, yet very accessible to the main roads and only a 25-minute trip to downtown Asheville. We really liked the location because we got to visit the Biltmore Estate and Chimney Rock--both within a short driving distance. We had younger ones with the oldest only 2 and a half--yet, there were no issues with space or when they needed to nap--plenty of rooms that we could keep them close by, yet not disturb their beauty rest.
While we did not play to many of the games, the lower level has all sorts of entertainment and is very well lit. The young adults enjoyed the hot tub while I enjoyed the comfort of using the very large gas grill to cook us a couple of meals. Finally, the ability to use the outdoor fire pit was truly wonderful to bring on that campfire feeling.
We loved the roost and would highly recommend it to others!
Perfect for my son's Asheville wedding
We stayed at The Roost for five days during the weekend of our son's wedding in Asheville. It is located south of Asheville and about a 20-30 minute drive to downtown Asheville. There was plenty of room for 7 adults, 2 - 18 month old twins, and 2 dogs. Rich was great during the reservation process answering all my questions as we determined if this house would fit our needs. The home is comfortable and clean. The wrap-around porch with hot tub, as well as the lower level game room, were the areas where we spent so much of our time when we weren't running into Asheville for wedding events. Rich left excellent instructions on how to take care of his beautiful home while we stayed there. The towels are plush, the showers are already equipped with shampoo and soap. The home is at the end of a lane so it is private and quiet. We were there when the azaleas and rhododendrons were in bloom - the property is just beautiful! We would definitely stay at The Roost again with our family!
Stayed at the Roost for a long girl’s weekend. The house was absolutely gorgeous inside & out, fully stocked with everything we needed, and very clean. Rich was also a great host and easy to get in touch with. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a secluded, private stay close to Asheville.
The Roost is nestled in a quite and secluded setting. A perfect getaway that is less than 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, which features incredible restaurants, shopping of all kinds, some of the best craft breweries, and countless music venues. It's also less than 20 miles from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, which are must dos if you've never experienced them. Take a scenic tour on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or visit The Biltmore Estate, and their incredible gardens. Hiking and waterfalls are plentiful! Close to Pisgah National Forest, and a day trip to the breathtaking Dupont State Park. Take a trip to the River Arts District and experience some of the best pottery, painting, glass blowing etc. of Asheville artists. Don't forget to stop at 12 Bones, Asheville's premier BBQ, but make sure you go between 11:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. They are not open for dinner, and are closed on Saturday and Sunday. While in the River Arts District, make sure not to skip The Wedge if you're a beer lover. Without a doubt one of the best craft breweries in the country. Wicked Weed is a no brainer, located right next to The Orange Peel, Asheville's premier music venue. Also make sure to stop at Highland Brewing Company for a tour, and a visit to their tasting room. Additional breweries to stop at are Oscar Blues, the new Sierra Nevada, Hi-Wire, and an Asheville staple, Pisgah Brewing, which features some of the best local bands along with national touring acts in the summertime. Asheville must go to restaurants are The Admiral, Cucina 24, Curate, Marketplace and Corner Kitchen (right by The Biltmore, and a lot of great shopping). Limones is a must for dinner or brunch. Additional brunch options are Sunny Point (be prepared to wait), Biscuit Head (which has quickly become an Asheville staple), and Early Girl. If you're craving hearty Mexican cuisine, stop at Papas and Beer and try their fajitas. Locals swear by Taco Jaliscos in West Asheville. If you love tea, you can't miss The Dobra Tea House, which is located downtown and has a smorgasbord of local and international teas. 5 Walnut Wine Bar has a huge selection of great wines, and also features music from some of Asheville's finest musicians virtually every night of the week. Two activities that don't show up on the tourist radar that are essential are tubing down the French Broad River, and the waterfall at Catawba Falls. Drop your tube in right by The Wedge in The River Arts District, and get out at the Bywater. It takes a bit under two hours, and you'll find yourself at one of the best bars in Asheville. Did you know the French Broad River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, and also one of just a few that flows North? Catawba falls is located off of exit 73 on I-26. Just make it a point to go here. It's truly magnificent. These are just a handful of the wonderful things to discover on your trip to Asheville. Enjoy this beautiful City and everything it has to offer.
