Overview

About the property

A Large Highly Secluded Oasis Less Than 10 Miles From Downtown Asheville!

The Roost is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath log cabin that lies at the end of a long, extended driveway. It provides the peaceful serenity desired by folks who want to get away, but also be just a short distance from downtown Asheville (less than 10 miles!) The Roost lies on 4 acres of land, and has hiking trails that run throughout the property, which includes a small stream in certain areas, several types of fruit trees, and a huge wrap around deck for outdoor entertaining. The Roost can accommodate up to 15 guests (please read on to get more info about the number of beds, and sleeping accommodations), and boasts a huge 8-person hot tub, pool and poker table, fire pit, a 65' HDTV w/home theatre system, and so much more!

The downstairs provides entertainment for the entire family. There is a pool and antique poker table with chips and cards. The 65' HDTV has Direct TV, a blue ray DVD player and a home theatre system. The couch is extremely large and incredibly comfy, so the whole family can enjoy a cinematic experience together in style. There is also a separate checkers and chess table, as well as a surplus of board games. Additionally, there is a separate full size bed that functions as another sitting/sleeping/relaxing area.

Three of the four bedrooms (2 kings and a queen) and 2 full baths are on the main floor, while the kids room with 2 sets of bunk beds (a twin and full bunk) is downstairs. The kids room has a 32' HDTV (w/Direct TV, DVD player and a Wii console), so they'll be entertained for hours! Adults can be on the main floor late, hang in front of the fire, watch TV (there's one in the Armoire next to the fireplace w/Direct TV), and have access to the kitchen etc. without disturbing the kids. The upstairs master and queen bedroom have ceiling fans and direct access to the beautiful wrap around deck. The queen bedroom has an attached bathroom with an incredible jacuzzi tub, so it is in essence another master bedroom. The bathroom is shared with the 3rd bedroom (not attached but right next door), and features a hand made king bed by an Asheville furniture designer. The love seat in front of the fire place opens into a bed, so you can sleep in front of the fire, which is truly a lovely feature. Therefore in all there are 2 Kings, 1 Queen, 3 Fulls, and 3 Twins (1 of the twins being the pullout couch). The Roost accommodates sleeping for 15 if you account for 2 people sharing beds for the Kings, Queen, and Fulls (not twins).

The kitchen is large, and has all the appliances necessary to cook for large groups. There is also a grill outside that is available to guests. Attached to the kitchen is a front loading washer and dryer set, with plenty of detergent and dryer sheets so you can do laundry at anytime. The cabin has all the necessary linens for the beds, and has plenty bath towels, wash clothes etc.

The Roost lies at the end of a very long driveway, so it is quiet and peaceful with absolutely no road noise. There are several hiking trails on the property to explore, as well as a stream to discover on your hike. The landscaping is gorgeous, with several types of fruit trees, flowers, plants etc. There is also a large fire pit with spots for 15 people. There is plenty of parking, including a carport for up to 2 vehicles.

If you're looking for a beautiful and luxurious place that can accommodate a family or large group then look no further. The Roost has everything you need to make your vacation truly one to remember!

About Rich Brownstein

My name is Rich, and I am a 32 year old full time musician. I started piano lessons at the age of 4, and graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy. I got my undergraduate degree from NYU where I studied jazz piano and music technology. I grew up right outside of Boston, and although I haven't lived there in nearly 16 years, I'm a die hard Boston sports fan. After graduating NYU I got a job working for the legendary Cafe Wha? (where Jimi Hendrix was discovered, and Bob Dylan played his first shows in NYC) in New York City, where I was responsible for booking talent, marketing the club, customer inquiries, and the head agent for The Cafe Wha? House Band. As the head agent, I was in charge of hiring the band out for weddings, private functions, corporate events etc. If you're ever in NYC, make sure to check them out!

When I was 27, I wanted to pursue my dream of being a touring musician. Myself, and my girlfriend at the time who was the lead singer, convinced the entire band to leave their lives in New York, and move into a house together in Asheville NC. We played over 300 shows together and traveled as far south as Key West, and as far north as Boston.

I love virtually all sports, delicious food, sitting by the fire and reading, and spending time with my family just to name a few.

Rich Brownstein purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Rich Brownstein chose Asheville Area

I sold the condo I bought in Brooklyn in the middle of 2014, and was looking for a great investment property. Originally I was looking at multi unit apartments, duplexes etc. but I quickly realized it wasn't something I was excited about. My realtor, who is now a very good friend of mine, showed me this property, now called The Roost, and I thought, 'wow, this would be an incredible vacation rental!' The other obvious benefit is when it isn't rented, I'd be able to leave my small apartment in Asheville and spend time here. It was a no brainer really. For 2 straight months, myself, girlfriend and a few friends remodeled the entire basement. We ripped up carpets, installed beautiful new floors, painted the whole house (at 3200 sq. ft thats a lot of painting!), and cleaned for what seemed like an eternity. I wanted to make The Roost the ultimate getaway, and since I plan to stay here when it's not rented, I've made every effort to do just that!

What makes this cabin unique

I love The Roost because it is close to downtown Asheville, but has the feeling you're in the middle of nowhere. The extended driveway (probably 1/4 of a mile or more) is shared with only 1 other house, and since The Roost lies at the end of the driveway, no cars other than people you are expecting pass through. The previous owner invested tens of thousands of dollars in landscaping, so the property is full of all types of fruit trees, flowers, and exotic plants. The hiking trails are really enjoyable to walk on, and on a clear night, the stars shine brighter than any place I've been before. The inside of the cabin itself feels very homey, and I loved the idea of entertaining guests, which is easy given its size. The first people to stay at the house were my girlfriends entire family over Christmas (16 to be exact), and it didn't feel cramped at all. The wrap around deck is accessible from the two main bedrooms on the first floor, which is wonderful as well. I looked at dozens of properties, and as soon as I saw this one, I just knew it was the one. I haven't regretted it for a second. It's an incredible home, and wonderful place to lay your head.

Great extended weekend

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I came here for a wedding so we didn't get a chance to spend too much in the cabin. However, the times we did, it was great. Playing pool in the basement and relaxing in the hot tub at the end of the day was a great way to decompress. It was also great to wake up and be able to cook up some breakfast and eat it outside before heading out for all the wedding activities. The location is stellar. You're in a secluded location but as the same time, not far from downtown Asheville. Awesome if you want to do some shopping or check out any restaurants, bars, and breweries.

To top it all off, Rich was a great host and was very helpful.

We all hope to come back sometime soon.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Truly enjoyed our time in Asheville and our stay at this great property. The house was absolutely perfect for our group of 6 (which ranged from (18 months to 80). The house very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a great weekend. The house is well laid out allowing everyone to spread out but there was also plenty of room to congregate and spend time together. The outside areas are perfectly set up for a party or to wake up early in the morning and have coffee on the deck while listening and watching the birds. We had a busy weekend planned in and around Asheville and our only regret was that we didn't leave enough time to sit around the firepit and make smores. Next time for sure.

Memorial Weekend 2017

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this cabin over Memorial weekend. The cabin is very clean and you can tell that the owners really put an effort to maintain the place and keep it nice. The kitchen is very well stocked with all of the essentials...including a nice array of spices. I forgot my cinnamon and vanilla for my french toast and I was pleasantly surprised to find some in the cabinet. The kids loved having the foosball table, billiard table, corn hole boards, and of course the fire pit in the back yard for making s'mores! The hot tub was a big hit as well. All in all a very pleasant experience and a quick trip into Asheville when we wanted to go out and explore. I would definitely rent this cabin again. It had all of the comforts of home but was nice, quiet and secluded for a peaceful vacation.

Wonderful girls trip

  • 5 of 5

10 girls...4 nights......fantastic place!

The Roost was wonderful!! Would definitely recommend it to anybody with a large group! The hot tub is now sunken into a beautiful deck and it's fantastic! The fire pit area was right near the house, with chairs for us to put around the stumps. The owners were super quick to respond to any need we had, and that truly made all the difference. Oh my goodness, the sheets were probably the softest I have ever slept on! Lots of games were there! We were so busy with all of our local adventures that we didn't even get a chance to use the pool table. I guess that means we have to come back! Thanks so much!

The cabin, the owners attention to detail, and the beautiful nature were amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful weekend! Everything you need is in the cabin and it was very clean. The entire group had a wonderful time and loved the opportunity to relax. We were 20 minutes from Asheville so it was an easy ride into town. The weather wasn't great the whole weekend but we were so cozy in the house. I'd recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a great escape. We're actually considering visiting again. Thank you!

The Roost is nestled in a quite and secluded setting. A perfect getaway that is less than 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, which features incredible restaurants, shopping of all kinds, some of the best craft breweries, and countless music venues. It's also less than 20 miles from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, which are must dos if you've never experienced them. Take a scenic tour on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or visit The Biltmore Estate, and their incredible gardens. Hiking and waterfalls are plentiful! Close to Pisgah National Forest, and a day trip to the breathtaking Dupont State Park. Take a trip to the River Arts District and experience some of the best pottery, painting, glass blowing etc. of Asheville artists. Don't forget to stop at 12 Bones, Asheville's premier BBQ, but make sure you go between 11:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. They are not open for dinner, and are closed on Saturday and Sunday. While in the River Arts District, make sure not to skip The Wedge if you're a beer lover. Without a doubt one of the best craft breweries in the country. Wicked Weed is a no brainer, located right next to The Orange Peel, Asheville's premier music venue. Also make sure to stop at Highland Brewing Company for a tour, and a visit to their tasting room. Additional breweries to stop at are Oscar Blues, the new Sierra Nevada, Hi-Wire, and an Asheville staple, Pisgah Brewing, which features some of the best local bands along with national touring acts in the summertime. Asheville must go to restaurants are The Admiral, Cucina 24, Curate, Marketplace and Corner Kitchen (right by The Biltmore, and a lot of great shopping). Limones is a must for dinner or brunch. Additional brunch options are Sunny Point (be prepared to wait), Biscuit Head (which has quickly become an Asheville staple), and Early Girl. If you're craving hearty Mexican cuisine, stop at Papas and Beer and try their fajitas. Locals swear by Taco Jaliscos in West Asheville. If you love tea, you can't miss The Dobra Tea House, which is located downtown and has a smorgasbord of local and international teas. 5 Walnut Wine Bar has a huge selection of great wines, and also features music from some of Asheville's finest musicians virtually every night of the week. Two activities that don't show up on the tourist radar that are essential are tubing down the French Broad River, and the waterfall at Catawba Falls. Drop your tube in right by The Wedge in The River Arts District, and get out at the Bywater. It takes a bit under two hours, and you'll find yourself at one of the best bars in Asheville. Did you know the French Broad River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, and also one of just a few that flows North? Catawba falls is located off of exit 73 on I-26. Just make it a point to go here. It's truly magnificent. These are just a handful of the wonderful things to discover on your trip to Asheville. Enjoy this beautiful City and everything it has to offer.
