We are proud to call the Dream Retreat home and enjoy our private oasis on the beach, in the Hampton's of the Mid-West, where we can escape from it all.
We truly hope you like our home as much as we do.
Jim purchased this house in 2005
Dream Retreat was conceptualized in 2005 and meticulously designed, built, and furnished for the sole purpose of entertaining large groups and beachfront relaxation. We are in the memory-making business and have hosted thousands from all over.
Completed in 2008, Miller Beach Dream Retreat is 6000 sq.ft., comprising six half-levels (Level 1 through 6 with six steps between each) and an Attached Guest House. 2000 sq.ft. of outdoor living space are multi-level decks with amazing views and amenities. After staying in many properties around the globe, we have defined luxury vacation rental.
Views from the Dream Retreat to the North and East are pure nature: Lake Michigan and rolling dunes. To the Northwest, see the unmistakable Chicago skyline.
Follow the path to the semi-private, sugar-sand beach, wade onto the 150ft sand bar, swim in the crystal clear water. Enjoy no rocks, muck, or algae.
Unlike most beachfront rentals that are flanked on both sides by noisy, nosy neighbors and offer little to no privacy, the Dream Retreat was built to be private and secluded. We are located on a quiet, tree-lined cul-de-sac street on a corner lot and 350 feet from our closest neighbor.
Our backyard and beach IS the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. This little slice of paradise contains one of the most diverse ecosystems in the entire national park system. It is world famous for the Karner Blue butterfly and has over 369 species of flowering plants and cacti.
The first manned-glider ride, preceding the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, occurred on historic Chanute Hill (200ft from our rear deck) in 1896 by Octave Chanute. The Aquatorium, a half-mile walk on a nature trail, contains both the Chanute and Tuskegee Airmen Museums.

For the past 13 years, my Mom (now 85 years old) has taken her 4 children, spouses, & 12 grandchildren with her on a week vacation so we can be together since we all live in 5 different states. This year all 21 of us had a great time at the Dream REtreat. The house is in a perfect location surrounded by sand dunes, no nearby neighbors, no traffic, and the beach at the end of a beautiful nature trail. Volleyball court and game cabinets were a hit for the kids. The house was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was one of the best equipped ones we have rented with all cabinets (and lite switches) labeled so everything was easy to find. Jim and Hilary gave us a welcome tour and binder filled with their favorite things to do in the area including local merchants and eateries. One night a wind storm knocked the power out for a few hours and without even asking, Jim showed up with lanterns and flashlights! We highly recommend this beautiful house because Jim and Hilary provided excellent service and our family had a wonderful time together.
We were blessed to stay in this gorgeous and VERY well equipped retreat! Jim and his wife were so delightful and accommodating during our tour of the home. My group has stayed at ten vacation rentals in the past six years but never have been to a place that is so beautiful and comfortable with literally everything under the sun. Jim’s attention to detail was staggering and you can tell they are truly passionate about their home. They gave us the low down on all the amenities and a binder chock full of fun things to do in the immediate area. We are from Central Indiana and were impressed by how much there is to do around Miller Beach. We took the kids to a water park one day and a candy factory the next. They loved it. We were there in late August so the first two days we spent with our children & spouses before school started. The next two with several good friends of ours. Everyone appreciated the spaciousness of the home—inside and out: the large kitchen and island had room enough for four chefs to prep and cook meals at the same time, the recreation room had a foosball table for the kids and a wet bar for the adults. It was fun to play bartender. The TV loft had very large windows and amazing views of the dunes and lake which was a pretty cool backdrop while watching movies. The kids played board games, supplied by Jim, on the game table. The loft also had a bouncy parakeet-cage chair which was fun for most of us. The kitchen had everything: paper towels, spices, two coffee makers, crock pot, blender, etc. What a relief to not have to pack any of that stuff. Same with the bathrooms, complete with all soaps, towels, tp, and hair dryers. There were several levels of decks each with a spectacular views of the national park, lake Michigan, and Chicago skyline—on clear nights we actually saw the Sears Tower and the John Hancock building all light up! The surrounding area was neighborly, quiet, with no traffic on a no outlet street; there were no neighbors close by either to bother. It was hot during our stay, but each room had its own AC unit so everyone could control their own perfect temperature.
My group has already decided to make the dream retreat an annual event. With excellent, responsive owners and a fabulous property in a perfect location, we could ask for nothing more. We are returning again this spring break for a long weekend and can't wait. Thank you Jim!
Our group of 10 rented the main house and guest house for 3 nights (far too short!). We've rented a lot of places and stayed in a lot of really unfortunately rentals that didn't match their description by a long shot. I've got to say, the Miller Beach Dream Retreat is hands-down the best rental we've ever had! Read their listings here and on their website - then know every expectation you have will be exceeded!
Hilary met us upon arrival and gave us a quick tour and overview of the property...so perfect and what a doll. This home is beyond fantastic; be prepared for 6 levels of luxury!! Every amenity you could possibly ask for has been provided. Extras of everything, from towels and linens to toiletries and paper towels and 5 extra beds (not even including pull-out couches). We were able to spread out but still have very comfortable group time. We got to break in the new foosball table, enjoyed the hot tub outside, watch movies on any number of 10 televisions throughout the house, prepare great meals, sit by the outside fire pit, and more.
The kitchen is so well-stocked I didn't need half of what we brought! Hilary and Jim have truly thought of everything anyone could possibly need. I'm a big foodie and in most rentals, am disappointed by the one pan and one tiny knife. They had massive pans, big glass bakeware, storage containers, mixing bowls...literally everything you could want. Even the spice cabinet was better stocked than I could have been prepared for!
Location is great, very near to walking trails and the park (a binder is provided with lists of entertainment options, maps, etc). Views from every balcony are fantastic. I could gush for days. We have been incredibly spoiled by this wonderful home and won't hesitate to recommend it to other groups like ours!!
Thank you for providing such a wonderful wonderful home for groups like ours, Hilary and Jim!! I was incredibly impressed this weekend!!
Our corporate retreat was held at the Miller Beach Retreat this spring. We decided to rent a house instead of staying at a hotel and renting conference rooms, which ended up saving thousands and proved to be a more successful meeting place.
We were able to brainstorm and plan out our fiscal year as a group, then move to other areas of the house for break out sessions.
The location on Lake Michigan and the Dunes was great and several of us went on hikes during our down-time—great for clearing our heads! The landscape of this area has a serene and rejuvenating effect.
Plenty of private space for sleeping—the entire group of 20 stayed at the house comfortably.
The hosts were very attentive and only a phone call away if we needed anything (which we didn’t—the house was so well stocked). We plan to make this an annual event and look forward to next year.
The Miller Beach Dream House was far more than I have expected....much more, may I add. My husband and I have traveled to many destinations and must say that this house, by far exceeds them all. The place is even more beautiful than the pictures online. Every detail was met. We celebrated our 20th anniversary this year and were hard pressed to find a home to accommodate all 22 of us! We were NOT disappointed in the least!
I was surprised and pleasantly happy with how equipped and spotless the house was. It was very spacious. We could see Lake Michigan and the sand dune hills from almost every window and just outside was a beautiful deck and well kept hot tub.
This house was extremely safe and in a lovely neighborhood with nicely kept homes. My bed was a bliss of happiness. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I drifted off to sleep. Items like, dishwashing liquid for both dishwasher and sink were there...and the best products. Detergent was even provided for my laundry.
Hilary and Jim do not skimp on how to make a house perfect for their guests. The think of everything and provide it so you don’t have to run to the local store when you arrive. Bounty paper towels were supplied in abundance along with plenty toliet paper. An endless supply of shampoo/conditioner and soap were there too. Yes, I mean wow! Items like salt, peper and even Pam spray was one last thing I had to buy. The automatic ice maker came in very handy. So did the wine fridges—there are 2!
The gas range was impressive as where the baking oven and warming oven! I love to sit in the shower while shaving my legs and was so supprised to see a bench in the steam shower. Steam Shower! Water pressure and toliets ran perfectly. Wood burning stove with so much wood provided sealed the deal! Everything was conveniently located as far as groceries and local restaurants plus more. Although cold in March, the beach was beautiful to walk on and view of Chicago Skyline was breathtaking! The neighbors were so quiet we didn’t even realize they were there
Custom built in 2009, the secluded Dream Retreat will help you escape from it all! Retreat is situated on a cul-de-sac street (no traffic) and corner lot (only house on the corner). Closest neighbor is 350 feet away. Completely private compound (6' & 8' privacy fences). Pro-Sand Beach Volley ball court set to Womany's Olympic specifications (Peak Season only). Entire North (lakeside) and East are Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Hear nothing except the songs of birds, breeze, and waves slapping against the Lake Michigan shoreline. See the Chicago Skyline from the upper decks.
Because of our unique location, only a tiny sliver of National Park separates us (sand & asphalt trail) from the best semi-private sugar-sand beach on Lake Michigan. We are 1/3 mile from Lake St. Beach boat launch (seasonal) for all your water toys, jet-skis, boats, sailboats, etc.
