About Joan Burns

I moved here from Westchester County, NY in 2012. I lived in that area for over 40 years. During 5 of those years I was an innkeeper in the Bahamas as welI as St. Croix. I grew up coming here, almost moved here a couple of different times and in 2012, I decided to make the move. I bought this property and completely renovated it the first year I was here. At the beginning of 2014 I set out to create Tucked In. It's new and I'm excited to be back in the hospitality business. I love Manchester and I look forward to hosting you here in my new hometown.

Joan Burns purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Joan Burns chose Manchester

I looked for a long time and there was something about this house and where it sat. I didn't want to be in the middle of nowhere so this was the perfect solution. My house was built in 1895 and it was built beautifully. It was in desperate need of love and that's what it got. It took some time and a little bit of aggravation but in the end, it is magnificent and stands proudly in the center of town. A neighbor across the street described it as 'shiny'

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits are its proximity to everything in town, the luxurious amenities in the cottage, and the comparably affordable nightly rate!

Sweet Cottage...

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited "Tucked In" this past weekend. Very sweet cottage, nicely decorated and outfitted, with all the creature comforts! We especially enjoyed hanging outside on the little terrace in the morning with our tea and books. Within easy walking distance of everything but just outside the fray, we found the location perfect for our needs and wants. The owner was out of town while we were there, but was easily accessible if we needed her. Lovely little cottage all around...

A cozy, convenient, modern place to stay! Perfect for a VT getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience! The cottage is tastefully appointed and extremely, the location in relation to the downtown shopping/eating areas is perfect!

The Owner, Joan, was easy to work with...she was very pleasant and quick to respond to any questions we had in the booking process.

Highly recommended for a wonderful VT getaway for 2!

Superior rental, nearly perfect

  • 5 of 5

A superior rental, nearly perfect. We are a couple who spent 5 nights here in mid-October and were very comfortable. Despite its small overall footprint, the open plan kitchen, dining, and living room area is quite spacious for a party of 2, as are the bedroom, bathroom, and storage spaces. The kitchen, dining, and living room area was full of light during the day time, with 4 sky lights, windows on 3 sides, and French doors to the garden, patio, hot tub, and fire pit.

Immaculate and beautifully decorated and furnished, inside and out. Excellent SONY flat screen TV, with cable service. Well equipped kitchen, with more than adequate appliances and kitchenware for 2. No dishwasher, but 2 people don't generate that many dirty dishes. Luxurious bathrobes and towels. Excellent, comfortably firm bed. Nice, warm floors with radiant heat.

Centrally located for easy access to restaurants, supermarkets, craft shops, outlet stores, Mt. Equinox, Southern Vermont Arts Center, hiking, biking, and scenic drives. Off street parking.

A couple of minor quibbles to be aware of, but nothing that would make us hesitate in the slightest about staying here again. There is no washing machine or dryer, which might be a consideration if you are planning a lengthier stay. And the dining area, wonderfully bright during the day, is somewhat dark after sundown. (Joanie provided us with an extra lamp that solved that issue.)

Thanks Joanie for a great stay. We look forward to visiting again when we are next in the area.
