Enjoy a place to stay while visiting the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. A room for rent on a working cattle ranch near the Chiricahua National Monument and Pinery Canyon of the Coronado National Forest both noted for their excellent birding, wildlife and hiking opportunities--a photographers paradise.
Relax with our majestic sunsets, dark nights and our peaceful, quiet country atmosphere from the comfort of our accommodations where day trips to Ft. Bowie National Monument, Bisbee, Douglas, Tombstone, Portal and Willcox are easily accessible. The Willcox area is also becoming a winery destination with 13 tasting rooms in the vicinity.
Available for your comfort: 2 queen beds, pull out couch, central air and heat, wifi, kitchenette. However, there is no TV and only emergency phone service available via the neighboring house. Cell phone service is very limited.
** This is a working ranch and the studio is connected to a shop area. We will do everything to keep our noise down during your stay.
Janna and her husband have been working on this ranch for over forty years and it has been in the family since 1879.
The property has been in the family for several generations. The studio apartment was built originally as a salt house, but it was later decided to be used as a guest house or 'Little House' as we call it. We want to continue that tradition and give travelers an inside look into the lifestyle.
The views from the porch are breathtaking. The abundant wildlife and birds give you a unique opportunity to enjoy nature. The dark nights provide an excellent opportunity to view the night skies. The hiking and biking possibilities are endless.
My husband and I had a fantastic time staying at this place. The guest home is very comfortable and goes beyond the usual trappings and furnishings (books, cheese grater, sewing kit). The beds are comfortable and the grounds are quiet. There is unparalleled nature to explore on the property (a rambling ranch with cows, chickens, and bats) and just next door in the Chiricahua National Monument. The owners are very nice and have lots of stories to tell about settling the area in the late 1800s. You will not regret staying here. We can't wait to get back!
The few days I spent here were bliss. The ranch is surrounded by wide expansive golden grasslands with mountains in the distance. I was greeted by friendly chickens and even made friends with a cow. The owners are very friendly and helpful if you need them for anything. The house itself if very cozy and full of nostalgic charm. It is a great place for star watching. At night you can open the picture window by the bed and watch all the stars as you sleep. The house is just a few miles from Chiricahua National Monument, which was the main purpose for my visit. I highly recommend taking a walk in the grasslands at sunset. It is an excellent chance to take some pictures in the perfect lighting. I would definitely stay here again.
The owners, Jim and Janna and their children Thomas, Buffi, Ashley, Karis, and Nathan were extraordinary host. The dogs and chickens are very friendly too. The kitchen is well equipped for a long stay if you have that in mind. There is plenty of reading material and a very good wi-fi available. The beds were so comfortable.Plenty of great shopping in Bisby, Tombstone, and Wilcox which is only 40 minutes away. There were a lot of birds and other wildlife on the property.
In the 2 1/2 weeks we were there, we felt like we were part of the family and that was very important to us. We have every intention of returning soon.
Our stay at the Crossed J Ranch was truly an outstanding and unique experience. We felt right at home on this working ranch and very comfortable with our family of 5 (three small children). Lots of room for the kids to play. Just the right amount of space inside. Of course, the property backing up to the mountains and in such close proximity to the park entrance added a unique element of serenity and adventure. The hosts were incredible, gracious, and accommodating. We highly recommend this site to anyone looking to spend time in Chiricahua or SE Arizona.
We had a great two night stay - highly recommend!! The cabin was clean, well appointed and very comfortable with some wonderful personal touches like specialty local sundries and snacks. Also, the beds were super comfy with great sheets/bedding - even the fold out couch got high marks from my daughter who is usually picky about such things. Jim and Janna (the owners) were very friendly and helpful and we loved interacting with their friendly dogs and chickens as we came and went! Great proximity to Chiricahua National Monument - highly recommend the Echo Canyon Trail - such amazing rock formations!
