Photos and Description of this Willcox holiday studio

Studio Apartment At The Entrance To The Chiricahua National Monument

Enjoy a place to stay while visiting the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. A room for rent on a working cattle ranch near the Chiricahua National Monument and Pinery Canyon of the Coronado National Forest both noted for their excellent birding, wildlife and hiking opportunities--a photographers paradise.

Relax with our majestic sunsets, dark nights and our peaceful, quiet country atmosphere from the comfort of our accommodations where day trips to Ft. Bowie National Monument, Bisbee, Douglas, Tombstone, Portal and Willcox are easily accessible. The Willcox area is also becoming a winery destination with 13 tasting rooms in the vicinity.

Available for your comfort: 2 queen beds, pull out couch, central air and heat, wifi, kitchenette. However, there is no TV and only emergency phone service available via the neighboring house. Cell phone service is very limited.

** This is a working ranch and the studio is connected to a shop area. We will do everything to keep our noise down during your stay.

About Janna

Janna and her husband have been working on this ranch for over forty years and it has been in the family since 1879.

Why Janna chose Arizona

The property has been in the family for several generations. The studio apartment was built originally as a salt house, but it was later decided to be used as a guest house or 'Little House' as we call it. We want to continue that tradition and give travelers an inside look into the lifestyle.

What makes this studio unique

The views from the porch are breathtaking. The abundant wildlife and birds give you a unique opportunity to enjoy nature. The dark nights provide an excellent opportunity to view the night skies. The hiking and biking possibilities are endless.

What a wonderful little gem tucked at the base of the mountains. Cows and chickens awaited us and our kids couldn't have been more thrilled! Then when they saw a playset and learned that three young kids lived in the neighboring ranch, they were over the moon! I highly recommend making the trip to see this beautiful setting. You're just a short trip to Tombstone, or to Apple Annie's Orchards for a fun family day! The owners were so hospitable and even shared the farm fresh eggs from their chickens! We will be back!

What a pleasant place for a relaxing weekend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the little studio on the Crossed J Ranch! Our accommodation was beyond expectation and we immediately began talking about our next trip to stay there. Plenty of storage space (the many closet hooks were much appreciated), everything neatly labeled so you don't have to open every cabinet door or drawer to find a specific item, and plenty of seating. The bed was super comfortable too.

The views outside the studio made us want to get out and explore. We did a hike and some sightseeing in nearby Chiricahua National Monument. We didn't have a ton of time to sit and enjoy the patio, but hope to in our future trip!

What made this getaway even more special was the hospitality of the Riggs family and the remote, yet comfortable location. It's nice to spend a few days away from the mundane aspects of our life and experience something new.

Convenient to Chiricahua. Quaint, cozy, cute cottage w/ welcoming hosts!

A warm welcome from the family and their two sweet docile dogs upon our very late arrival. Lovely, clean studio. Quirky & quaint. Felt like home. Easy parking. Books, snacks, thoughtful! Kitchen too cute for words. Pots, pans, cups, etc...all you need. Hilarious bathroom wallpaper. Soooooo close to Chiricahua, a Nat'l Park well worth visiting! Amazing hikes! Fill your gas tank & stock up on groceries before you head out, though, because this place is very remote. Thank you very much for letting us stay in your studio! My family will never forget the wonderful experience!

Remote, Relaxing Chiricahua Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

One of the best VRBO experiences we have had. Our family usually stays in VRBOs as we travel the regions in search of all the National Park Service sites. This location naturally fit that bill, situated less than 2 miles from the Chiricahua NM and less than 20 miles from Fort Bowie NHS.

The Ranch was super remote yet super available. We spoke with all the family members, who were more than willing to help with anything we needed. They offered advice on our trip, spoke to us about the area, and made sure we were welcomed to our home to the weekend.

I won't speak much about the room other than this: why would you stay in a hotel when places like this exist? Very well stocked, super clean, A/C and Heat (45 degrees in the morning, 85 in the day), and fast internet. It was really like being home in the middle of nowhere.

Places like this make visiting our National Park Sites possible. If we ever come back to SE Arizona, we will be back here for sure, I would come out of my way to stay here again.

Thanks for the experience,

Paul and Lauren

Great place for a quiet getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place if you are looking for a quiet time. Apartment is well furnished and well stocked. Surroundings are wonderful. Lots of bird life and hiking opportunities. Janna and her family are very accommodating and eager to meet any needs. Area has a lot of touring opportunities from Fort Bowie to the Chiricahua National Monument to the Cochise Stronghold. Willcox has several points of interest including tours of wineries. Close enough for day trips to Tombstone and other area points of interest. Can't say enough good things about the time we spent here.

Beautiful short getaway:)

We rented this gem for a race track week end in Willcox. We did not get to spend as much time as we would of like but we totally enjoyed every minute of it. On Sunday we got out early and walked around the ranch and met the entire family. Very friendly and welcoming. Our kids played with theirs and we got to use the playground and toys. They had a blast. The air is fresh and there is no sound. Perfect relaxation. The unit is fully equipped and very comfortable. Its also only a mile away from the Chiricahua mountains, a must see!We will definitely be back.

Thank you
