Docked at Safe Harbour Marina (6810 Front Street), this is a low-key spot just a 10 minute drive from downtown Key West on Stock Island. Off the beaten path, we are a hidden gem tucked between local campgrounds and shrimp docks. The atmosphere is laid-back and the ambiance is often described as colorful and reminiscent of the 'Old Key West' of decades past with fishing boats and artisans working from waterfront cottages along the docks.
The marina is also home to the Hogfish Bar and Grill, a hotspot for locals who come here for the fabulous fresh seafood and live music. The community here is very welcoming with artsy types and fishing fanatics open and welcome to all.
This is an authentic fishing port. If you’re interested in kicking back and relaxing on a luxurious houseboat in a unique and unspoiled place, this is the spot for you! If the availibility matches your needs, you will experience something to talk about that's largely unavailable at any price anywhere. The ambiance of art, fishing and mix of attractive colorful locals may remind you of a bygone era or inspire a new love for this rare setting.
For those looking to spend time out on the open waters there are companies that operate daily charters from this or nearby marinas. There are fully customizable charters that may include activities such as snorkeling, diving, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. If interested, please inquire about special SleepAfloat guest pricing.
Want to bring your own boat along for day trips? No problem! We can put you in contact with the marina and they can set you up with a spot in one of their slips near the houseboat.

The houseboat itself was clean, pretty convenient to Key West, and within walking distance of the 'Hogfish Bar & Grill'. The boat, however, was not made ready for our arrival as agreed upon in the rental agreement. I did contact the property manager & told him we would be arriving late which may have delayed the cleaning. We were not able to get into the boat until the day after our rented start day as it had not been cleaned from the prior rental party. I contacted the management team about this upon getting home, and after a slight delay, was credited a days rent.
All in all, it was a fun place to stay and I would stay there again.
Quietly tucked away a 15-minute taxi ride from downtown Key West, this houseboat was a perfect getaway for me and a buddy. Room aboard was ample and we really enjoyed the huge rooftop deck. The Hogfish Bar & Grill being just steps away is what saves it from being stuck out in an otherwise sketchy location. Great price and a great way to a the real "non-tourist" slice of the Keys.
Happy to have stayed here and not a hotel chain. Spacious and clean. Walking distance to some of the best food we had during our stay. Fun sun deck. Friendly neighbors. Only small drawback was the patio furniture. (Could be upgraded)
We had a great time! It was our first time on a full-sized comfortable houseboat.
What we saw in advance on the site matched what we saw and enjoyed there. All good.
We were a short walk to the hog fish restaurant which is all outdoor and so authentic tiki. But was far enough down the pier so the boat was very quiet even on the night we decided to turn in early.
It was wonderful to relax at sunset on the top deck.
Liked the personal touch and felt well taken care of by the staff who gave us local insight into Key West. Very clean & comfortable.
During the day we fished or took advantage of snorkeling, kayaking & waterskiing. At night we explored the lively bars and restaurants in the area. It's a town built for fun and that's what we had.

The moment you step foot into Safe Harbor Marina you will feel like youve gone back in time to the days of 'Old Key West'. Filled with assorted galleries, studios, commercial fishing ventures, etc., the atmosphere at this marina is laid-back and the ambiance is often described as a colorful, and reminds of the less touristed Key West of the 1960s.
This eclectic marina is home to the popular Hogfish Bar and Grill and only a 5 mile drive from downtown Key West and Duval Street.
