An Extraordinary Wilderness Adventure!

Welcome to your lovely ten-acre vacation spot in the foothills of Yosemite at Donkey Lane. If you are looking for a Wilderness Experience, solitude, sunshiny days and starlit nights in the pine woods with nature’s elements and all kinds of critters about then Yosemite Vista @ Donkey Lane is the destination for you. At 3500 feet we’re just above the snow mark but below the blizzard line atop a mountain ridge where you can see the sunrise and set without leaving the property. We’re 15 minutes from the nearest grocery store or gas station and 45 minutes (30 miles) as the crow flies from the Highway 120 and the northern entrance into Yosemite National Park.

Our vacation property can accommodate up to 6+ adults, 1 youngster in the main house and 2+ adults in the adjacent guesthouse. The main house has three bedrooms; master bedroom has a private full-bath while the two smaller bedrooms share a full-bath in the hall. The couch in the living room is big enough to easily sleep one. Floor mats and sleeping bags area available for the adventurous outdoors deck sleepers under the stars. Security deposit of $200 will be refunded within 14 days after your departure date (baring no deductions).

Main House for three nights $510 and up

Each additional guest $25 per day and up

Security/damage & key deposit $200.00 and up

Cleaning and garbage fee $200.00 and up

Pet (dog) fee $50.00 per pet

Guesthouse is only used for overflow to accommodate larger families, groups and their friends and will not be rented out separately.

Minimum price/stay is three nights at $510 adding $25 each additional guest per day up to maximum occupancy within the main house. Three plus nights start at $170 per night up to seven. Discount rate for weekly bookings start at $1,100 per week of 7 nights. Additional security, cleaning and garbage fees are negotiable but will apply.

Note: Fees change according to dates, party size and unique requests. Pricing will also vary depending on season and demand. I recommend we negotiate if there is flexibility to do so.

The easy access entrance to the main house has an accommodating front porch that extends onto the south facing walkway to the back deck, which extends throughout the entire length of the back of the house. The back of the house faces due east and captures sweeping views of conifers, oaks and manzanita and the often snow capped majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains and Cathedral Range.

ACCOMMODATIONS: This home is privately owned and reflects the owners' individual tastes and requirements. Please be respectful of personal property and do not remove furnishings, kitchen items or private property.

Note: Our water is “well water” pumped up from over 300 feet below the property. The water is safe for cleaning, bathing and drinking but has minerals in it like iron, giving the water a bitter taste. The water is safe to drink.

CHECK-IN /OUT: Plan to arrive after 2:00 p.m. Departure time is 12:00 PM, (Noon) sharp.

DAMAGES: I agree to properly use, operate and care for all furnishings, including electrical and gas appliances, plumbing fixtures, electronic home entertainment property, fireplaces, BBQs and all other items or whatsoever kind of nature provided to me during my stay for my convenience. I also agree to leave the home so that no extraordinary housekeeping will be required after my departure. I agree to both notify and reimburse the owners for all necessary and reasonable repairs, replacement for damage or destruction of property caused by my guests, and me or for extra cleaning required. We will notify you of the costs of damages or extra housekeeping within ten days after your departure.

QUIET TIME: 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please respect these hours as sound does carry off the mountain, especially during warm/hot weather nights when the windows are open.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY: I agree to indemnify and save and hold harmless Donkey Lane Lodge near Yosemite and its' homeowners from any loss, liability, damage or cost I may incur due to my occupancy on your premises or from participation in any recreational activities during my stay.

The about us question??! Hmmmm.

My name is David Bach, originally from Rochester, N.Y. My partner of seventeen years Antonio Choy-Koo originally from Lima, Peru. We own a home in San Francisco, the Sunset District with our dog Bosque and two cockatiels. The entire family goes to Donkey Lane as often as possible. Donkey Lane as we lovingly call the property (named after the street which is adjacent to Jackass Ridge) is an excellent get-a-way from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. And if you are at all familiar with the micro-climate weather in the Bay Area here in SF it is often foggy especially along the coast. The mountain property offers relief and much desired sunshine during these cool and foggy summer days.

Personally I have always been drawn to Yosemite, been coming to the park since 1978. I’ve hiked many of the Valley Trails, all the waterfalls, Half Dome on more than one occasion and the back country (Ten Lakes) numerous times. A friend and I got caught up in a June snowstorm atop Clouds Rest above Tanya Lake some years back.

During our time together Antonio and I have had many an adventure into Yosemite, hiking to the top of Yosemite Falls (a 5-6 hrs round trip, we highly recommend), May Lake and from Glacier Point to the valley floor just to name a few.

This said, owning land near Yosemite National Park is an honor and a dream come true!

Occupation wise, Antonio is a Controller for a non-profit and I'm a Office Administrator.

Why David Bach chose Coulterville

Antonio & I must have looked at over a dozen maybe two dozen parcels in our quest to find a cozy, getaway piece of wilderness property. We needed to fall in love with it and it needed to be private and have pine trees. Well we hit the jackpot and some when we looked at this place. Immediately we both agreed that this place had dream-property potential and was going to be worth the investment.

Staying on or at Donkey Lane is an adventure in it self. The weather changes throughout the year with sometimes frightening Sierra Nevada Mountain storms of wind, snow, rain and the summers dry heat. Sunrise and sets without leaving the property.

It's lovely, ten acres, clean, peaceful and nestled in the woodlands atop a mountain ridge at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. And we're very close to Yosemite National Park. What's not to love?

In 2012 we started the experience of renting our property to vacation travelers visiting Yosemite. It has had its challenges (people are unpredictable) and rewards (people can be charming, delightful) but most of all we feel Donkey Lane wants to be shared and not left idle.

We take pride in ownership of Yosemite Vista @ Donkey Lane the house as well as the stewardship of the wonderful wilderness area on this mountaintop.

We expect that our travelers will respect the property during their visit with the same regard.

What makes this house unique

Spectacular views abound. We sit atop a mountain ridge where you can see the sunrise and set without leaving the property.

Very Private! Very Beautiful! Best use of our property would be for family, friends or group of 5-7 people for stays of 5-7 days. Short visits won't allow you the necessary escape to unwind and savor the peaceful, tranquility of the wilderness.

Nice place with great views near Yosemite

Gorgeous views all around and especially for sunrise and sunsets. Plenty of space and we utilized the guest house which was huge. David was a pleasure to work with and provided plenty of instructions. Only suggestion is for a water sofener to be added as water from tap is very hard.

Sad circumstance but owners are great about it

We were smoked out of our vacation like so many in the west, unable to go to this property because of a massive wildfire making the air unhealthy and closing some roads. Mountain camps full of children were being evacuated. The situation was extreme. David was wonderful and said we could rebook at another time. He was even the one who called me, rather than vice versa.

Great home in a fantastic setting

We had a wonderful time in this house. It is spacious and very well and thoughtfully equipped. It offers stunning views at day and night. Being a party of 8, we used the guesthouse, too - it was nice as it gave us some extra space. We quickly got used to driving up and down the hill - just go slowly and not in the dark if you come for the first time. The water had a light smell, but as we knew before, we were prepared and brought some extra water, so it wasn't a problem at all. The grocery store in Greeley Hill provides everything you need and Yosemite is just a 45 minutes drive away, if you go early in the morning like we did. The communication with the owners is excellent.

We will always remember the nights we spent gazing at sunset, moonrise and shooting stars on the deck together as a family. Thank you, David and Antonio! The Brinkmann family from Germany

Amazing place

House is absolutely amazing, location is stunning (although the last meters of drive are adding extra adrenaline - better dont come after dark). Views from the deck, but also lovely sunsets observed in the front, trees, flowers, birds and other animals make this place fantastic. A real vacation spot - you can fully relax, enjoy, forget entire world. House is very comfortable furnished, kitchen is fully equipped (although it could be better cleaned - especially some utensils) . All directions and guidelines passed over from David & Antonio were excellent. Coulterville town is also very nice place, good bakery (open only a few days a week), excellent store by Shell gas station. Close proximity to Yosemite park.

On the lowlights - water in the house is terrible (we were warned about it before our arrival, but I think we underestimated this info ;)). It comes from well, it has bad odor and taste. I don't recommend using it not only for cooking/ drinking but also even tooth brushing. What was a really bad experience was the laundry we did. Apparently iron residue from the previous laundries has been left in washing machine/ pipes and it colored a lot of our clothes :( We ended up losing a few new t-shirts and other kids clothes. Even after a few next washing, clothes still had iron stains that we couldn't remove. This is the only reason why I give 4 stars to the Donkey Lane.

In general - I would love to come back to Donkey Lane, place is fabulous, owners are very nice and helpful. Just don't plan to make there laundry and you will experience unforgettable vacation moments there.

Fortunately, we were able to fix it and now the water is good to cook and drink. But still we will not recommend to wash white clothes. They will get an off-white color. Regards

Just what we needed!

We needed a quiet get-away and this amazing place was perfect. David's directions, information, suggestions, thoughtful touches and, of course, the property itself were all spot-on. The bed was so comfortable after wearing ourselves out exploring. We didn't try the new pizza place nearby but we took full advantage of the grocery store. We even enjoyed the tiny museum and visitor's center in Coulterville. We would definitely stay here again!

Our property is on ten acres atop a foothill mountain with plenty of walking space and two tree swings.

This geographic area of California had great western history known as GOLD COUNTRY MOTHER LODE. And it continues living up to its name. Gold prospecting remains very active in these parts. Mine claims are still filed and worked regularly. Panning for gold in the various riverbed/creeks is a growing recreational activity and can be quite an adventure in it self. An absolute must try while you are here!

If you are overtaken with Gold Fever you will be happy to know Gold Country has many waterways with numerous places for recreational gold panning. After all more then 80% of the gold in the Mother Lode is still yet to be found, this makes gold panning even more enticing!

Coulterville, CA intersection of HW 49 and HW 132 (the John Muir Trail) is the home of one of the last remaining and largest mines along this end of historic Highway 49er, Mary Harrison Mine. Visit the Trading Post, museum and infamous Hotel Jeffrey “Estab. 1852” while you are in town. There is also a public access swimming pool in Coulterville during the summer months.

And there are the beautiful, clear sky starlit nights! The nightly sky's at Donkey Lane are absolutely breath taking. Often when I wake-up at night I’ll wander onto the back deck or the front walkway and look up in astonishment at the nighttime star-show spectacular. Late July early August is meteor shower time.

Easy access to Yosemite National Park, Hetch Hetchy, Merced River, Lake McClure and Don Pedro, Rainbow Falls and other great daytime destinations await you.
