About Cathy Havard

Our vacation rental homes are individually owned by people from across the United States and beyond. They rely on Dauphin Island Real Estate, Inc. to be their rental agency because they want professional management by the 'Dauphin Island Vacation Experts'. Our owners use their properties many times throughout the year. They enjoy the Island as much as we know you will!

Why Cathy Havard chose Dauphin Island

Dauphin Island, a wonder of nature and full of history is a barrier island on the Gulf . The population is about 1,300. The town is included in the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. The island was named for Louis XIV's great-grandson and heir, the Dauphin. Our 'laid-back' atmosphere is prized by folks who enjoy serenity and natural beauty.

The eastern, wider portion of the island, is shaded by thick stands of maritime pine trees, but the narrow, western part of the island features scrub growth and few trees.

Dauphin Island is home to Fort Gaines, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, The Estuarium public aquarium, the Dauphin Island Airport, boat ramps, a fishing pier located on the Island's eastern end, historic sites, several restaurants. Beaches attract tourism, and fishing is a popular activity in the waters around the island. The island is connected to the mainland by a 3.5 mile long bridge.

Although the entire island is a bird sanctuary, the main one is the 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary. Dauphin Island is the first landfall encountered by many birds as they migrate north from Central and South America, and as a consequence many species can be found resting there before continuing their journey.

In 1519, the Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda was the first documented European to visit, staying long enough to map the island with remarkable accuracy.

The island's French history began on January 31, 1699, when the explorer Pierre Le Moyne, sieur d'Iberville, D'Iberville later decided to locate a port for Fort Louis de La Louisiane (Mobile). Fort Gaines on the eastern tip of the island was built between 1821 and 1848. It was occupied by Confederate forces in 1861, and captured by Federal troops during the Battle of Mobile Bay. The phrase, 'Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,' was spoken by U. S. Admiral David Farragut just a few hundred yards from Dauphin Island's shore.

We love 'The Island' as much as we know you will!

What makes this house unique

The old walled Fort Gaines is on the east end of Dauphin Island. A ferry from nearby Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores brings both vehicles and pedestrians to the island. One of the closest attractions to the ferry dock is The Estuarium, located at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab...a fresh- and saltwater aquarium highlighting species native to coastal Alabama.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth time back to Dauphin Island. The weather was colder than our pevious stays, but that can't be helped. The home pictured is just as it was. No concerns or issues during our stay. The kitchen could have stocked hotpads, maybe a few pieces of Tupperware etc, otherwise had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable, beautiful views, would recommend staying in this home.

Beautiful Home!!!!!

  • 4 of 5

This was an absolute jewel! We loved it but we did have one complaint. The available direct tv service was terrible. It was not user friendly at all. Our only suggestion to the owner is change your cable company. We had TV service only one day of the seven we were there. We were not there for the television, but we did have a toddler who would have benefited from it.

Heaven on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This house is simply gorgeous! It is on a beautiful and quiet beach. I've stayed in many beach houses and this is by far the nicest. The modern kitchen makes cooking a pleasure. The photos on the website can't begin to do it justice. To top it off, the realty team are a pleasure to deal with! I highly recommend the Crimson Tide.

Absolutely Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

This house was even more beautiful in person than in the photographs. The beach is pristine and quiet. Our stay at the Crimson Tide was more than we could have imagined. Everything is just a short drive away and the locals were very nice. We had such an enjoyable and peaceful time at this house that we were already planning our next vacation before we left. We recommend this home away from home for anyone and everyone!

There are so many reasons to love Dauphin Island. The atmosphere is quiet and laid back ( you are on Island Time ). The beaches are beautiful, white sand, miles of beach to walk and enjoy shelling, fishing, birding, watching the dolphins (lots of them)! The SUNSETS are fantastic...Dauphin Island is Alabama's 'Sunset Capital'. You are also close to the island-wide bike trail which is great for biking, running, or walking. There are no traffic lights on the island and life is truly low key. This will be the most relaxing vacation

Places to visit on your stay,

* Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary! The Sanctuary consists of 137 acres of maritime forest, marshes, and dunes, including a lake, a swamp, and a beach. Recently, the 3 mile trail system within the Sanctuary has been designated as a National Recreational Trail.

* The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium very popular with children and adults?

* Fort Gains ( a Civil War Fort )

* Take the Mobile Bay Ferry to Fort Morgan ( another Civil War Fort )

Short drive to Gulf Shores ( 15 minutes ) for shopping, good places to dine. The outlet mall in Foley is not far from Gulf Shores.

* A visit to Fairhope a lovely time is worth the visit.

* The Dauphin Island Marina offers eco tours, fishing, kayak and paddle board rentals, and more!
