“Immersed in history, spacious rooms” Rated 5/5 Stars on TripAdvisor
Last July my family stayed at the Historic Powhatan Resort during a trip to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg. We absolutely loved the grounds, the manor house is beautiful and helped to immerse us in the history of the area. My husband and the older children enjoyed the ghost tour of the original manor house and now are less skeptical of supernatural occurrences after what they witnessed! For the younger child and myself, we enjoyed the beauty of the building by daylight :) We were impressed with the range of activities offered at the resort and enjoyed participating in many! We stayed in a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath condo and loved the extra space compared to a typical hotel room. We look forward to staying here again in the future!!
“Love Powhatan, lots of activities” Rated 5/5 Stars on TripAdvisor
My family almost always takes a yearly trip down to Williamsburg to visit Busch Gardens and we almost always stay at Powhatan. Through the years we have never been less than pleased. The staff is always extremely nice and accommodating, the condos are clean and we've never had issues with them. They are usually in the midst of renovating at least one block of condos, so they are usually pretty up to date. The clubhouse is great and offers numerous activities for the family including multiple pools, exercise rooms, a salon, and a restaurant (which is pretty darn good). They are always offering activities for the whole family including crafts, trips, and parties. There are several ponds/lakes there, all of which are great for fishing. We absolutely love Powhatan and will continue to come back.

When I received my confirmation back, I noticed I was upgraded to a 2b/2b. I arrived at the resort for check in around 10pm and the check in line was quite long and really slow. However when it was my turn, they were very friendly. After getting the room information, I was then directed to another desk to get a "welcome packet". At that time of night, I really didn't feel like dealing with a timeshare pitch but it was short enough and the person wasn't too aggressive.
However when we walked into the room all you could smell was a really strong smell of curry. If I were staying longer than one night, I would have requested a room change.
The bed was comfortable, the room itself was well laid out and very spacious. I could imagine staying here for an extended stay (minus the cooking smells). In room washer/ dryer with a starter packet of detergent was a nice touch.
The next morning, I could see the grounds. They are very well maintained and quite beautiful. Again, I could imagine enjoying the many features of the property on another stay. But, checkout was more painful than check in. Only 2 staff members working, and no effort was made to find anyone else. Because the 5 people in front of me were checking in, that process is much slower. Given that they put a $100 hold on your credit card, you really want to make sure that hold is released. So another lady and I began chatting and she commented that they really need to have an express check out or more people on duty at 10am.
I did inform the staff member about the curry smell she did make a note of it and was appropriately apologetic. I know it wasnt their fault, so hopefully they won't rent the unit to anyone else until they deal with the smell.
So, bottom line... Expect slow check in and slow check out, but I would most likely return.
