About Rachel and Edward Martin

My husband and I are both trained as architects. I work as a designer and architect in a local firm. My husband is originally from Nashville and works for a student housing company. We also have two daughters, ages 6 and 8 mo.

Rachel and Edward Martin purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Rachel and Edward Martin chose Nashville

The location is fantastic. It's a great walking neighborhood. We bought this house with the intention of converting it to single family but had such success and positive feedback after 4 years with the upstairs rental that we decided to buy a house for ourselves 4 blocks away and continue to rent the duplex.

What makes this apartment unique

This neighborhood (and the couple of streets around us) really are the closest you can get to downtown without actually being in the 'city' or more urban core. But two blocks away and you're in midtown. It's the perfect mix of quiet relaxing location and proximity to the action.

Great location near Hillsboro. Perfect for two couples - separate bedrooms, clean, great back deck and walking distance to Fido's.

We Loved This House!

  • 5 of 5

We really loved this little house, and Rachel was so great to work with! She was very responsive when we had questions, and even gave us some great suggestions on local places to eat. The house was so nice, and located in a beautiful, quiet area of town that seems very family friendly. Close to both Belmont & Vanderbilt. It was the perfect size for two couples. Very clean and nicely furnished, and plenty of towels were provided (a plus for us, haha). I used the washer and dryer a couple of times, and they are very user friendly. The kitchen was well-equipped, although we really didn't use; too many great places to eat in Nashville! (Try McDougal's & Pancake Pantry-get there early!) Beware, the water pressure is super high, so when you turn on the kitchen sink, turn it on low, or you'll end up with water splashed all over the counter, like me! The large back yard was really nice and offered a good amount of privacy. There's also a grill if you want to cook out. We enjoyed relaxing on both the front and back porch with our coffee in the mornings. Kroger is close by, and we were in there a ridiculous amount of times for not even cooking a meal (there is a Kroger card in one of the kitchen drawers you can use to get the discounts and not have to open your own).

Even though there were several restaurants and shops close by, we didn't end up walking to them from the house due to me being 6 months pregnant. We drove our car a few places, but mostly Ubered downtown, which was only about a $7 ride.

Overall we had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed having a nice quiet place to come back to and get away from the crowds of downtown. I would definitely stay here next time we come to Nashville & have already recommended it to my boss. It would even be a great place for our whole family if we rented the upstairs apartment too. Thanks Rachel & Edward for a great stay! We look forward to coming back!

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

My son, his fiancée & I all loved this property. It is very convenient to restaurants, coffee shops & shopping in the Vandy/Hillsboro area. Some noise from upstairs unit but that's just apartment living. Huge backyard with the magic of fireflies. More than adequate kitchen. Comfy beds & great water pressure. Very homelike & comfortable.

Wonderful cottage in perfect neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Hillsboro Village is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Nashville. Nestled between Vanderbilt and Belmont it offers a great walking neighborhood with plenty of restaturants and shops. They take great care of the property and it had aboslutely everything one needs and more to have an enjoyable stay. Owners are very nice and attentive. We had a smoke alarm that needed a new battery and they were over within an hour. Definitely would stay here again!
