KiYOMiZU Exec. is a place that embodies the essence of Kyoto with all the perks of western life. This Kyoto Machiya has been around for over a 100 years and its walls know secrets that they will never share with anyone. The basic concept has not changed but the facilities have become quite modern so that you're comfortable during your stay in Kyoto no matter what season you come.
Come and create memories within these walls and see the beauty of Kyoto that resides directly around this beautiful estate.
I grew up in Canada, went to school in the United States and have spent the last 15 years of my life in Kyoto. I fell in love with this city, its temples, shrines and festivals within my first few years here and don't think I'll ever leave.
Ken purchased this house in 2014
This house is between the Takase and the Kamo rivers in Kyoto. It offers cherry blossoms in Spring, fireflies in early summer, beautiful leaves in Autumn. This house is in a wonderful area. Easily accessible in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
It is half way between downtown Kyoto and Kyoto station. You can walk almost anywhere. There are restaurants and sight-seeing spots galore all around this house. The house is in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Kyoto with sweet neighbors on either side.
This house not only has all the amenities of your home, but also lots of extras to make your stay in Kyoto not only traditional, but also comfortable.
Fantastic location (central) in a fantastic loaction. Quiet neighborhood and traditional neighbors. Well equipped facilities and lots of helpful information to make your stay in Kyoto memorable.

My family spent an amazing week in Kyoto, in this beautiful home. There were 9 of us - 2 elderly parents, 4 adults, and 3 kids ages 7, 10, and 12. There was plenty of room for all of us to sleep comfortably, as well as cook breakfast and enjoy meals together. We really enjoyed the experience of sleeping on the traditional Japanese futon in the tatami rooms. Everything from the bed linens to the art displayed around the home was so beautiful, and obviously chosen with so much care and attention. The kitchen has great modern appliances that were easy to use, and we really appreciated having a washer/dryer, especially for the kids' clothes! With such a large group, having 3 showers was instrumental in getting all of us out of the house at a reasonable time each day! The best thing about our stay was having Ken as a resource for all things Kyoto. He stopped by one evening to answer questions, and made some excellent recommendations for restaurants, places to visit that the kids would enjoy, shopping for my husband, even a really fantastic taxi company to use! It was a real treat to stay in this amazing home, and Ken's knowledge and advice made this trip a five star experience!
Our host helped us with anything we needed and the house is very well equipped and decorated. We will always remember our four night stay in the Gino area of Kyoto.
My brother and I stayed here as part of our Christmas gifts to each other and we couldn't have been more happy with our decision to stay at this beautiful Machiya.
The photos do not do this place justice. It is truly a home you need to experience. It has all the traditional charms of a home in Kyoto yet has all the modern amenities you could need. The refrigerator with a touch to open button was definitely one of our favorites and we especially loved finding the green tea Kit Kats and water inside when we arrived at 11pm. Such a nice treat! The courtyard rock garden was also a pleasant treat and was especially beautiful at night when it was illuminated. The futons were also an interesting experience and worked wonders for my back!
In regards to the actual amenities...soap, conditioner, and shampoo is provided in each shower and they all smelled so lovely! A hair dryer is provided as well. We didn't use the kitchen for cooking but it was very well stocked with cookware, cutlery, and anything else you would need to serve a meal including cooking oils and some salts and spices. TVs provided local channels which was plenty for us as we spent most of our time outside of the house. There are a few drink vending machines around the corner if you get thirsty but don't want to run to the store. Keypad entry system was awesome and it was so great to not have to carry a key around with us. Wifi in the house worked perfectly and the list goes on.
The neighborhood is very safe and is located in a quaint area full of locals who'll wish you a good morning as you pass by. There is a train station nearby which made getting around Kyoto very easy. There are lots of restaurants nearby; if you have trouble choosing one I suggest asking Ken for some suggestions.
Ken took us on a tour of the area and showed us some of his favorite local spots. He is a wealth of information and has a few funny stories to tell :-) We thought it would be a quick 20 minute tour but without realizing we spent an amazing couple hours walking around Kyoto discovering places my brother and I wouldn't have found on our own.
If you have any doubt in your mind about staying here, stop thinking and just book it already. This place is amazing, in a perfect location, and I will definitely be coming here again.
Ken, thanks so much for your thoughtfulness and hospitality! We'll see you again soon!
P.S. we loved the big doggles in the loft!
The Kiyomuzi Machiya was certainly accurately described. It was charming as well as modern.
Ken left a handy map with some tips for nearby attractions, we really loved the garden at Shoeisien.
Close to lots of interesting sights in walking distance and easy public transport for places further afield.
All the amenities of the house were clean and functioning well. Especially the bathrooms, they were great. The futons were also very comfortable. Highly recommended
We were happy to find that the pictures didn't do justice to this beautiful home. It was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Ken was very kind, helpful, and prompt in getting back to me.
There are so many beautiful temples and shrines, not to mention 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyoto.
This house is within walking distance to many temples, shrines, gardens and lots of hiking paths.
The neighborhood is old and sweet with lots of kind locals. There are very few untouched areas in Kyoto and this is one of them. If you want an authentic Japanese experience, you're going to love this area for its serenity and safety.
