About the property

7 Bedrooms 7 Bathrooms; 700 Square Foot Studio; Two Kitchens

At the top of Town Hill Road, this 1800's farmhouse provides space for groups to connect in rural Vermont surrounded by animals and nature. The farmhouse has two kitchens, two living rooms, seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a studio, making it ideal for hosting retreats where leaders can use one kitchen for meetings and the larger kitchen can be used for participants. The 700 square foot studio is equipped with baseboard heat and three far infrared cove heaters by Heating Green.

Please keep in mind that the first 17 reviews are based on a portion of the home whereas the current rental includes the entire farmhouse which has an additional kitchen and additional bedrooms. As owner of the farmhouse, I enjoy hosting and am happy to offer recommendations, help with house related issues, and support you in accommodating your group. All groups are unique so I encourage you to ask questions so that I can help you prepare for your trip. From our local photographer to catering options or local businesses, there's plenty of year-round activities for people who are active and enjoy summer or winter sports.

Local area attractions include the Hall Art Foundation, which has been featured in the New York Times and the Boston Globe, Okemo Mountain Resort, Killington Ski Resort, and the Woodstock Inn and Resort. Located five miles from the farmhouse, the Hall Art Foundation features exclusive artwork in a restored dairy farm. Every first Friday of the month, La Pizza Lupo caters on the lawn of the Hall Art Foundation where people can enjoy pizza straight from the brick oven and view the collection.

We are located 12.5 miles from Woodstock, Vermont, a quaint town with the historic Woodstock Inn and Resort which can hosts groups for a wide array of services in its dedicated spa as well as a healthy menu for light lunch. Reservations must be made in advance. The Inn has a Nordic Ski course for winter enthusiasts. We are 13 miles from Okemo Mountain Resort and 25 miles from Killington Ski Resort for those who enjoy downhill skiing.

For catering, you can contact the year-round, indoor Woodstock Farmer's Market which has an online catering menu in addition to a prepared foods section that is not listed in the online catering menu. Keeper's Cafe, just two miles away, caters for lunch or dinner. The Village Butcher in Woodstock offers soups, sandwiches, wraps, and other lunch friendly foods.

We are a dog friendly rental and allow up to two dogs by permission only for a $50 pet fee. We enforce the usual breed restrictions, and ask that you leash walk them on the neighborhood road and crate them if left in the house. We understand that all dogs have different needs, so just speak with us so that we can work out a plan to ensure the safety of your pet as well as the preservation of the farmhouse, furnishings, and the safety of our property animals.

Our location is South-Central Vermont which is approximately 3 hours from Boston, 5 hours from New York City, and 3.5 hours from Montreal, all depending on traffic. The Amtrak trains are the Ethan Allen Express which travels from New York City to Rutland or the Vermonter which travels from New York City to Windsor, Vermont. Many people travel from New York or Boston via Dartmouth Coach. The local Dartmouth Stations (Lebanon and Hanover) are approximately 45 minutes from the Farmhouse. The nearest airports include Boston, MA, Albany, NY, Hartford, CT, Manchester, NH, Lebanon, NH, or Burlington, VT.

Wonderful farmhouse with plenty of amenites and lots of charm

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at H&H while our horses were stabled at GMHA for the fall foliage ride. The house was everything we imagined and more. PLENTY of room for the 6 of us and the huge kitchen made meal preparation easy. Tayloe was warm and welcoming . I highly recommend H&H for a relaxing getaway in beautiful Vermont.

Perfect VT farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Tayoe's Farmhouse. My daughter and her cousins loved the goats and horses. My parents love walking the fields and dirt roads by the house. The location is great - about 15 minutes from Woodstock. The space was perfect for our family.

Horse and Hound... Beautiful property and home!!!

  • 5 of 5

Recently, my family and I had one of our most memorable trips due to Horse and Hound! The attention to detail throughout the property is above and beyond our expectations. We were blown away with how nice and clean the home and entire property were kept. Eight of us stayed and we were all very comfortable. The kitchen, rooms and home are beautiful. Loved the rooms names and goodies that were attached to each!! :)

My nephew hardly gets out of the house on his own when we are home. The animals at Horse and Hound had him outside playing and enjoying the better things in life while we were there. I truly believe we all had a life changing experience at some point or another during our stay. Such a peaceful place. Gorgeous views throughout the property. Thank you so much Tayloe, you and Horse and Hound will always have a special place in our family. We can't wait to get back up there.

Thank you for being there for us at Horse and Hound!!!

About V. T. Denton

Having grown up in the south with parents who entertained for a living, I settled into this role in my last years of graduate school. Over the past decade, I earned a doctoral degree in Boston, became a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance, participated in regular group training at the Center for Group Studies New York, and published articles in psychoanalytic publications. My long term vision for the farmhouse has been to build a yoga studio and retreat center where people can connect and enjoy life.

V. T. Denton purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why V. T. Denton chose Reading

I moved here because the Woodstock area has a thriving horse community with acres of horse trails open to residents of Windsor county who are passionate about trail riding. A former ski instructor in the Rocky Mountains, I also enjoy skiing and appreciate our proximity to Okemo Mountain Resort, Killington Ski Resort, and Suicide Six Ski Mountain. Having grown up in rural country, it felt natural to be here but I also wanted to be near New York City and Boston for an occasional trip into the city.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Throughout my time hosting at the farmhouse, guests seem most appreciative of the coziness of the home, comfortable beds, the scenic and mountainous landscape, the cheer of the farm animals, and local area offerings in nearby towns (Woodstock, Ludlow, Quechee). Our newest addition is the studio with newly installed far infrared cove panels for heat. This is an "away from it all" experience where you can enjoy the outdoors and tranquility in the quaint countryside of rural Vermont.

We are 11.5 miles from Woodstock and 14 miles from Ludlow (home of Okemo Mountain). Woodstock has several restaurants, shops, and a couple of cafes. A quaint town on route to Killington, Woodstock often hosts events on 'The Green' in the center of town such as farmer's market, Turkey Trot, a horse parade over the holidays, ice sculptures in winter, etc. Ludlow also has restaurants that you can enjoy after a day on the mountain. Just two miles from the house, you will find Keeper's Cafe which is a local favorite in the countryside. You will find local amenities in Woodstock such as a fitness center, massage therapists, groceries (Macs), Ottaquechee Health Center, Woodstock Inn and Resort (spa, golf, cross country skiing, recreation center) and other services. In South Woodstock, you can go for a sleigh ride by calling Kedron Valley Stables, and there is also a restaurant and Kedron Valley Inn. We love breakfast at the South Woodstock general store -- good breakfast sandwiches and coffee where you will find the locals and GMHA eventers. The closest hospital is Ascutney in Windsor which is about 30 minutes drive or the hospital in Springfield VT. We are also near Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, at about an hour drive.
