Farmhouse in horse country (6 miles to GMHA, 14 miles to Okemo)

Bedrooms 3
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 bedroom 3 bathroom spacious farmhouse

If you are looking for a true Vermont experience in a quaint and charming farmhouse, Horse and Hound may be just right for you. People say they like it here because of the surroundings, the cozy and spacious feel of our home, comfortable beds and linens, and our proximity to GMHA. Nearby ski resorts include Suicide Six, Okemo, and Killington; there's also a Nordic ski center at the Woodstock Inn and Resort. Whether you wish to lounge under the apple tree with a book, grill on the back deck, take a dip in a nearby swimming hole, or hit the slopes for your vacation week, our hope is that you get to have fun, rest, and play, while feeling right at home.

This rental which we call the "Main House" of Horse and Hound Farmhouse is the larger portion of an 1800's farmhouse in rural Vermont. The "Main House" rental consists of 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living room areas, and a spacious kitchen. This rental is attached to another separate part of the farmhouse called "The West End". The "West End" rental has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a separate back entrance for West End guests. The owner lives in the upstairs portion of the West End and rents nightly rooms in the downstairs portion of the West End. *If you would like to rent a West End Room in addition to the Main House rental, please inquire directly.*

The 9 acre property and small pond are shared between Main House guests, West End guests, and the owner. On property, there are 3 horses, 3 goats, 2 dogs, and 2 barn cats. Our two golden retrievers roam the property freely so this rental is ideal for families or groups who love animals and dogs. We consider allowing two guest dogs in the Main House by permission only. We enforce the usual breed restrictions and ask that you keep them in the central living room during the day. The pet fee for guest dogs is $25 per night for each guest dog. If you have two guest dogs, that is $50 per night additional.

We have memory foam cots, a high chair, and portable cribs available (Graco Pack and Play). Please reserve in advance, as we provide these for West End guests and Main House guests depending on need.

Why Virginia Denton chose Reading

I saw the beams in the ceilings, light pouring in through windows, open spaces, the old wide board pine floors, and the weathered barn in the yard. The view in the back really spoke to me. I planned on renting a portion of the house from the time that I bought it but I never imagined I would have such a great time outfitting it for people to enjoy their stay. I have invested in comfortable mattresses and linens because I love resting well when on a journey and hope you will too! It has given me great pleasure to provide a space where people can relax and enjoy the simplicity of a rural life.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The property is 6 miles from GMHA and is situated on the horse trail system. We do have a barn but will not be renting stalls this year. If you are interested in renting a stall in the future, let us know. We are trying to gauge interest in this amenity. You can rent stalls through GMHA if you are interested in a trail ride or event this year.

Wonderful farmhouse with plenty of amenites and lots of charm

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at H&H while our horses were stabled at GMHA for the fall foliage ride. The house was everything we imagined and more. PLENTY of room for the 6 of us and the huge kitchen made meal preparation easy. Tayloe was warm and welcoming . I highly recommend H&H for a relaxing getaway in beautiful Vermont.

Perfect VT farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Tayoe's Farmhouse. My daughter and her cousins loved the goats and horses. My parents love walking the fields and dirt roads by the house. The location is great - about 15 minutes from Woodstock. The space was perfect for our family.

Horse and Hound... Beautiful property and home!!!

  • 5 of 5

Recently, my family and I had one of our most memorable trips due to Horse and Hound! The attention to detail throughout the property is above and beyond our expectations. We were blown away with how nice and clean the home and entire property were kept. Eight of us stayed and we were all very comfortable. The kitchen, rooms and home are beautiful. Loved the rooms names and goodies that were attached to each!! :)

My nephew hardly gets out of the house on his own when we are home. The animals at Horse and Hound had him outside playing and enjoying the better things in life while we were there. I truly believe we all had a life changing experience at some point or another during our stay. Such a peaceful place. Gorgeous views throughout the property. Thank you so much Tayloe, you and Horse and Hound will always have a special place in our family. We can't wait to get back up there.

Thank you for being there for us at Horse and Hound!!!

We are 11.5 miles from Woodstock and 14 miles from Ludlow (home of Okemo Mountain). Woodstock has several restaurants, shops, and a couple of cafes. A quaint town on route to Killington, Woodstock often hosts events on 'The Green' in the center of town such as farmer's market, Turkey Trot, a horse parade over the holidays, ice sculptures in winter, etc. Ludlow also has restaurants that you can enjoy after a day on the mountain. Just two miles from the house, you will find Keeper's Cafe which is a local favorite in the countryside. You will find local amenities in Woodstock such as a fitness center, massage therapists, groceries (Macs), Ottaquechee Health Center, Woodstock Inn and Resort (spa, golf, cross country skiing, recreation center) and other services. In South Woodstock, you can go for a sleigh ride by calling Kedron Valley Stables, and there is also a restaurant and Kedron Valley Inn. We love breakfast at the South Woodstock general store -- good breakfast sandwiches and coffee where you will find the locals and GMHA eventers. The closest hospital is Ascutney in Windsor which is about 30 minutes drive or the hospital in Springfield VT. We are also near the renowned Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, at about an hour drive.
