About Thomas Berkes

I built my home and have enjoyed Santa Fe country living for many years. Traveling, sailing, cooking playing music are a few of my interests.

Thomas Berkes purchased this chateau / country house in 1985

Why Thomas Berkes chose New Mexico

The casita was originally built as a music studio, then having rented it for a few years long term I wanted visitors to get the country experience while visiting Santa Fe.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Peaceful with a tower for meditation, prayer or just enjoying the view.

Nice place to return to

  • 5 of 5

3 of us appreciated the privacy and quiet of the house and property after returning from a day of hiking or exploring the landscape, city and villages. The BBQ and patio offer a place to relax outside. The tower is a sweet spot to reflect and enjoy the big sky in daylight or starlight with views to the hills and horizon. We were comfortable in the roomy interior and had everything we needed. All amenities appreciated and we thank you for those considerations!

Very peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoy the Santa Fe area, but not so much being "in town". This place was just the ticket! We try to get over to this area at least once a year and we will definitely try to stay here again.

We only stayed for one night due to a road trip across northern NM, but this location was perfect. I recommend bringing coffee but other than that it was perfect!

Perfect little getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for our family of four. My kids (ages 9 and 13) loved the loft, and spent most of their time hiding out up there! Great place to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city at the end of a busy day. Everything was clean, and the kitchen had everything we needed to make a few meals in the evenings. The meditation tower is awesome, and I greatly enjoyed starting every morning out there, watching the sun rise. We look forward to returning as soon as we possibly can.

Great retreat

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay. Quiet location, beautiful, and spacious room for four. Our twelve year old son had great fun with the attic room accessed by native-style ladder. A great retreat not too far from Sante Fe, Taos, and major natural attractions.

Will not be staying here again. Disappointed.

  • 2 of 5

The home had a weird odor to it. I was disappointed with it after reading good reviews. The paint, carpet, furniture, and bedding was all outdated.

Owner's Response: The furniture and carpet is not new but in good repair. The kitchen table is actually an antique over 100 years old. A neighboring property had their roof hot tarred around that time which could have been the source of the odor.
