About Aqeel and Michelle Salim

We first fell in love with the Sunday River area of Maine in 2011 during a family ski trip. When we had a chance to come back the following year in late summer for some hiking and were amazed at how much Maine had to offer. This year we decided that Western Maine would be a wonderful place to bring our young son so that he would have a chance to experience the amazing array of outdoor activities that the area we had to offer. We hope you will enjoy our cabin as much as we do!

Why Aqeel and Michelle Salim chose Western Maine

This Chalet offered the best of both worlds. Being less than 20 minutes away from Sunday River ensured that world class skiing was always close by. And by being so close to the water we would have a chance to kayak and fish as much as we wanted. We feel extremely lucky to have found this home.

What makes this chalet unique

Being so close to North Pond, our guests can walk out of the home and be on the water in mere minutes. There are also amazing hiking trails waiting to be explored. During winter months, a short car ride and you are at the base of the best ski resort on the east coast, Sunday River. After a day filled with fun, the fire pit and hot tub outside welcome you to sit, relax, and plan the next days adventures.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I want you to know that you provided one of the best experiences my family has ever experienced together. It had been many many years since we had all been able to vacation together and it was well before me and my sisters had our children. Your beautiful home was the perfect place for our 14 guests and felt like it was our home too! We have so many memories that we still cannot stop talking about and laughing about from our week in Bethel. From the crazy tubing on the Androscoggin, making lobster for the first time, playing in the Screw Auger Falls, having our family fantasy football draft and just hanging out by the campfire and looking at the millions of stars above. These memories will be cherished forever and we all thank you for allowing us to experience Maine through your home.

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved having so much open space for various activities but then having your own space at the same time! It worked perfectly for our large group! We definitely enjoyed having so many options of things to do not only within the area but within the home too!

However, we did believe the water was closer to the home than it actually was. But that wasn't a problem whatsoever :)

Thank you so much for having us! We look forward to coming back up again!

Owner's Response: Hi Nicole!. We are so glad you had a great time during your stay. Having the Wildlife Preserve outside the front door, as well as 4 acres around the house, really creates a sense of being "away from it all" and bring you right in to the beauty that Maine has to offer. We were also excited to hear that your group was able to take the Kayaks out and enjoy the water as well! The kayak dollies make getting to and from the water quick and easy. We can't wait to have you back so you can enjoy the winter as well. Thank you!

Great Maine Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is a spacious, clean, well maintained and well stocked cabin in the heart of Maine. The cabin was nicer in person than the pictures showed. The cabin is nicely decorated with a Maine theme. We were a group of 9, 6 adults and 3 small kids and we were very comfortable. There is a large table that accommodated all of us. The owners are wonderful to work with, very concerned about us being comfortable and having a good time. They were always accessible and easy to contact with questions, even though they live far away. There are 2 lovely lakes very close by that we went to daily. There are kayaks to use, a great fire pit, wonderful hot tub. The area is beautiful, there is a great hiking trail 5 min drive away. The gondola up Sunday River was really fun and they have mountain biking trails and hiking all over the mountain. We were there in the summer but I feel this cabin would be great any time of the year. I would definitely recommend this cabin.

Perfect Maine getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect home for our families to get together to relax and explore western Maine. Whether it was relaxing in the hot tub, cooking meals or sitting out by the new fire pit, the First Tracks Chalet had it all! We cannot wait to get our group of 14 back here again.

Thank you for the amazing experience!

Wonderful Extended Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family reunion group shared this home for an extended weekend. The owners very kindly accommodated us even though we could not stay an entire week. Though the weather was very hot and humid, the house cooled down over night and then stayed comfortable for the next four days. There was plenty of room for 14 of us to relax and enjoy each others' company. The downstairs bedroom was great for our youngest (3 months) to be able to sleep without being disturbed, even when the older kids were playing in the game room nearby. We did not really use the downstairs kitchen for cooking but it was very convenient to have the extra fridge for the kids' drinks and snacks. The upstairs main kitchen was awesome--the best equipped we have ever had in a rental home: lots of counter space, high-end pots and pans, plenty of baking equipment, and a good variety of pantry items. The hot tub was enjoyed by many in our party. It was clean, roomy and refreshing. We especially liked being able to have a campfire and make some s'mores.

I would only have 2 suggestions to make: some smaller size cups/glasses for the kids and a few more chairs for outside (there was only one as the other was broken). We had brought along some fold-up sport chairs and they worked fine, perhaps you could keep a few in the mudroom.

We loved the location of this property. It was only a short drive to many of the things we wanted to do. Besides a family reunion day at my brother's home in Hanover, we took part in Molly Ockett Day in Bethel, hiked the Table Rock loop, walked to nearby North Pond, and had an excellent family dinner at the Sunday River Brewing Company. We really wanted to see a moose, but no luck. We have already decided to stay here again whenever we plan a trip to Maine.

The owners were very friendly and comfortable to deal with and did all they could to make sure we enjoyed our stay. I would gladly recommend this home to family and friends!

Owner's Response: Hi Linda! Thank you so much for allowing us to host your family, it was a pleasure having you all share our home. And thank you so much for your kind words and feedback. We have been working on the seating situation by the new outdoor stone fire pit and have had 2 new long benches added since your stay, so now there is plenty of sitting room for the whole family to use when making S'mores! Stay tuned as we are going to have updated pictures soon posted to HomeAway. We're glad you little one was able to rest well during the stay, the insulated concrete walls certainly help with noise control! And thank you for talking about the kitchens in your review. We understand how important it is to have a well stocked kitchen to make the cabin really feel like home. Can't wait to have you back out in the future! Aqeel and Michelle

Cousin Cabin Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

We shared the cabin with my brother and his family. The five teens and tweens thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and first floor, while the adults enjoyed the second floor and the amazingly comfortable beds and pillows! They really did not skimp on the comfort on the beds and it was much appreciated. Although we were here for a long weekend/family reunion over on another local lake, the time that we did spend in the rental property was awesome. We also enjoyed the 5 mile run(though it's quite hilly) around the lake and hiking up the cliff with amazing views. Aquee (the property owner)l was so kind and easy to work with! We would definitely rent here again.

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to host your group, Amy! As fellow travelers, we know how important comfortable beds can be, so we make sure to have memory foam on all beds and high thread count sheets. It's much-needed after a day of adventures!! We can't wait to have you all back again--whether for the upcoming Fall Foliage or Sunday River skiing :)
