Overview

About the property

Chateau / Country House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

This guest house is at the center of our 21 acre Gentlemen's ranch, one mile south of Suttons Bay and 1/2 mile from the Bay. The address for our location is 1624 South West Bayshore Drive (which is M-22), Suttons Bay While there is not a water view unless you are on top one of our hills, the setting is an idyllic location with panoramic valley and hill views. This house has a warm natural all wood interior with beautiful artwork, yet all the modern amenities such as wifi and satellite TV with multiple movie channels.

The grounds are professionally landscaped and maintained by the Landscape Architect owner.

There is a large open area that includes a wrap-around leather couch and a loft with two beds along with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed with an exceptional quality pillow-top mattress. There is plenty of room to park any toys (campers, boats, trailers) right on the property. The owners have a 26 foot motorboat and other water toys, so arrangements could be made for their use. If there is a need to stall your horses, or if you want to ride a horse or two, those arrangements can be made as well.

On the property is a large barn, a small barn (both for horses) along with indoor and outdoor riding arenas. Attached to the indoor riding arena is a viewing area with a pool table, wifi, cable, bathroom, laundry and additional sleeping area in another loft if it is needed.

At night, there is a firepit area to warm up on the cold Northern Michigan nights and we are far enough away from any city so that the panaromic star views are incredible.

We are only 1/2 mile away from the Suttons Bay to Traverse City trail and you could ride bikes/horses snowshoe/hike/cross-country ski in any direction from here and see wonderful water vistas and orchard/hill/valley views.

We are 30 minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Homestead Resort that has skiing with hills that border on Lake Michigan.

As always, if you pay for six days, you get the 7th day free.

Keywords: Northern Michigan, Suttons Bay, Horse Farm boarding (weekly/monthly) Indoor and Outdoor Riding Arenas, riding trials, Sailing/Power-boat excursions available

About Debbie Slocombe

Jeff and Debbie live on the property with their daughter Samara. Jeff is an attorney and Debbie is a Landscape Architect who designed the beautiful grounds and maintains them as well. They enjoy the life up North with the opportunity to raise, ride and show horses.

Debbie Slocombe purchased this chateau / country house in 2002

Why Debbie Slocombe chose Northern Michigan

Jeff and Debbie have been coming to the Traverse City/Suttons Bay all of their lives for vacations and decided to move to the area in 1999. They love the location of Suttons Bay because it has all the activities of Traverse City, yet the idyllic lifestyle of a Village just a short distance away.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Our home is just a five minute walk to the beach or a one mile bike ride/hike to Suttons Bay. The TART trail (Rails to Trails Suttons Bay to Traverse City) makes it a 13 mile bike ride to Traverse City.

You can bring your own bikes or borrow some of ours to ride into the Village for a nice breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Because we are on 21 acres surrounded by much more open area, you will not be constricted to a small area.

Favorite Vacation Spot on Lake Michigan!!! <3 <3 the Cottage, property and family!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with Jeff and Debbie in early July 2017. It was magnificent! Beyond our expectations. We have stayed numerous places near Lake Michigan and this was by far the best of the best! Our kids ages 6-18 loved the loft and the Farm. The cottage was perfect and met our needs. The A/C ran cold, the internet worked great and the beds were SUPERB! The queen master bed was the best bed we have ever slept in and we got great rest each night after all our Lake Michigan adventures. Debbie's flowers, landscape, waterfall, patio, grill and fire pit made for some wonderful family time! Our children loved the horses, their dog CeCe and their two cats! The cottage and farm is beautiful, the family is sweet and very accommodating and our stay was so awesome~~ we have booked a second visit with them!!!! Thank you for the amazing week away! See you soon!

Loved it & would stay again!

The photos don't really do this place justice. It's extremely clean, for one thing, and the property is gorgeous and pastoral. The queen bed IS incredibly comfortable as another reviewer said, and the whole place was very bright and airy and solidly well-built. The owners live just across the path in a remodeled farmhouse and it too is beautiful. One owner, Jeff, was around a lot and even let us take his ATV out for a ride. We got to see the horses, their darling little dog, and a couple of friendly barn cats. If you like animals and nature this is a beautiful spot and a relaxing, comfortable, and clean place to stay. It's super close to the shops and restaurants in Sutton's Bay and I would imagine it's really nice any time of year. Highly recommend and I hope to return sometime. Thanks, Jeff and Debbie!

Just what the doctor ordered .........

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage at the farm - it was beautifully decorated, clean, had everything we needed - bed was welcoming and comfy - the horses were stunning - Debbie and Jeff let us watch when they brought them into their stalls for the night - Rio the Palomino was magnificent. The little baby (mini horses) were so sweet and friendly. The cute dog, CeCe was adorable - never even heard her bark - she was always ready for a belly rub. Sutton's Bay is a great little village - the entire area is amazing - the weather cooperated all week. We did NOT want to leave - Debbie told us we could stay, but would have to share with the next people. Definitely recommend, and want to return again. Mike and Laura (Indianapolis)
