Chateau / Country House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
About Debbie Slocombe
Jeff and Debbie live on the property with their daughter Samara. Jeff is an attorney and Debbie is a Landscape Architect who designed the beautiful grounds and maintains them as well. They enjoy the life up North with the opportunity to raise, ride and show horses.
Debbie Slocombe purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2002
Why Debbie Slocombe chose Suttons Bay
Jeff and Debbie have been coming to the Traverse City/Suttons Bay all of their lives for vacations and decided to move to the area in 1999. They love the location of Suttons Bay because it has all the activities of Traverse City, yet the idyllic lifestyle of a Village just a short distance away.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Our home is just a five minute walk to the beach or a one mile bike ride/hike to Suttons Bay. The TART trail (Rails to Trails Suttons Bay to Traverse City) makes it a 13 mile bike ride to Traverse City. You can bring your own bikes or borrow some of ours to ride into the Village for a nice breakfast/lunch/dinner. Because we are on 21 acres surrounded by much more open area, you will not be constricted to a small area.

Clean charming place
Wonderful stay, nice clean relaxing place to stay that feels like home.
Cozy little cottage!
The cutest little gem. Very clean and private. And close to everything. Sutton’s bay, traverse city the wineries. A perfect place for a couple.
There is a loft with two beds but, it could be a little tough to get up there for some people.
My husband and I were very happy we found just”S” hills. Really enjoyed our stay there.
Lovely Country Setting
Lovely guest house with view of horses and paddocks. Great proximity to Sutton’s Bay downtown area and wineries. Our only negative comment was the difficulty in regulating the electric heat. It was uncomfortable for sleeping as we like a cool room. It rained heavily during the night or we would have opened a window.
Peaceful Setting for Weekend Away
The rental was just lovely! A perfect place to spend the weekend away. We are horse owners and loved being on a horse property. We thoroughly enjoyed viewing the night sky here, absolutely beautiful! The rental was extremely clean and the owner was very friendly. We would stay here again!! Thank you!
Serene spot to stay near Traverse City
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unique property. It's not often you can be awakened by the soft neighing of horses, but it happens there. This is a lovely property. The house is well appointed and comfortable. Every convenience we could want for was there. The location is just a short drive to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mission Point and Sutton's Bay wineries and apple picking farms. Very quiet and peaceful location. The hosts are super nice and welcoming. There are lots of little towns nearby with charming main streets for dining and shopping including Suttons Bay, Leland, Northport, and Glen Arbor to name a few. The old Bay Theater in Suttons Bay is a great place to see a movie and it is all run by volunteers. When you're in Suttons Bay you must stop at Bahle's (pronounced Baileys). Great clothes for men and women and the nicest salespeople in a neat old building. Leelanau Cheese is about a mile from this VRBO property. They make their own cheeses there and have a gift shop. Try their delicious famous Raclette Cheese. Sleeping Bear Dunes are a must see in the area. It's $25 per car load but well worth it. For somewhere to eat nearby, I would recommend Art's Tavern in Glen Arbor (Just remember to take cash as they don't take Cards). I would also recommend eating at The Cove in Leland. It sits on the Carp river just where the river meets Lake Michigan. The food was delicious and it is a neat old Fishing Town with nice shops.
Janet-What a great and generous review. You captured nicely our love of the area and the enjoyment we receive in sharing it with others. Thank you very much and hope to see you again soon.
Beautiful property and perfect location
Loved the house and the property was absolutely beautiful. Located near town, casino and the wedding venue.
Your review is much appreciated. Thank you for staying with us.
Voted 'the most beautiful location in America' (Good Morning America) with Sleeping Bear Dunes, 22 Vineyards and wine-tasting rooms along with gourmet/casual dining all in Leelanau County. Bring your horses, bikes or kayaks we have arenas (indoor and outdoor) and trails on site and are one mile from the Leelanau trial that runs from Suttons Bay to Traverse City and beyond. If you would like to sail or powerboat, arrangements can be made. Suttons Bay has excellent shopping, restaurants, festivals and a quaint art-house movie theater that also shows first-run movies.
