Overview

About the property

Chateau / Country House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

This guest house is at the center of our 21 acre Gentlemen's ranch, one mile south of Suttons Bay and 1/2 mile from the Bay. The address for our location is 1624 South West Bayshore Drive (which is M-22), Suttons Bay While there is not a water view unless you are on top one of our hills, the setting is an idyllic location with panoramic valley and hill views. This house has a warm natural all wood interior with beautiful artwork, yet all the modern amenities such as wifi and satellite TV with multiple movie channels.

The grounds are professionally landscaped and maintained by the Landscape Architect owner.

There is a large open area that includes a wrap-around leather couch and a loft with two beds along with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed with an exceptional quality pillow-top mattress. There is plenty of room to park any toys (campers, boats, trailers) right on the property. The owners have a 26 foot motorboat and other water toys, so arrangements could be made for their use. If there is a need to stall your horses, or if you want to ride a horse or two, those arrangements can be made as well.

On the property is a large barn, a small barn (both for horses) along with indoor and outdoor riding arenas. Attached to the indoor riding arena is a viewing area with a pool table, wifi, cable, bathroom, laundry and additional sleeping area in another loft if it is needed.

At night, there is a firepit area to warm up on the cold Northern Michigan nights and we are far enough away from any city so that the panaromic star views are incredible.

We are only 1/2 mile away from the Suttons Bay to Traverse City trail and you could ride bikes/horses snowshoe/hike/cross-country ski in any direction from here and see wonderful water vistas and orchard/hill/valley views.

We are 30 minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Homestead Resort that has skiing with hills that border on Lake Michigan.

As always, if you pay for six days, you get the 7th day free.

Keywords: Northern Michigan, Suttons Bay, Horse Farm boarding (weekly/monthly) Indoor and Outdoor Riding Arenas, riding trials, Sailing/Power-boat excursions available

About Debbie Slocombe

Jeff and Debbie live on the property with their daughter Samara. Jeff is an attorney and Debbie is a Landscape Architect who designed the beautiful grounds and maintains them as well. They enjoy the life up North with the opportunity to raise, ride and show horses.

Debbie Slocombe purchased this chateau / country house in 2002

Why Debbie Slocombe chose Northern Michigan

Jeff and Debbie have been coming to the Traverse City/Suttons Bay all of their lives for vacations and decided to move to the area in 1999. They love the location of Suttons Bay because it has all the activities of Traverse City, yet the idyllic lifestyle of a Village just a short distance away.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Our home is just a five minute walk to the beach or a one mile bike ride/hike to Suttons Bay. The TART trail (Rails to Trails Suttons Bay to Traverse City) makes it a 13 mile bike ride to Traverse City.

You can bring your own bikes or borrow some of ours to ride into the Village for a nice breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Because we are on 21 acres surrounded by much more open area, you will not be constricted to a small area.

Charming Cottage on Horse Ranch

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Sutton Bay! Jeff and Debbie were wonderful host. We had a very busy week with family activities in the area so we did not get an opportunity to spend a lot of time with them. The cottage was very relaxing and comfortable. The view around the cottage was beautiful and refreshing. We hope to return to the area again and plan to stay at the cottage. Thank-you for providing very comfortable accommodations. Anna Marie & Jeff

Amazing property and amazing week!

  • 5 of 5

We have been using VRBO for 10 years and this by far was our best rental and best vacation to date! The Slocombes were the most gracious and generous renters and the cottage was perfect. Our two boys (10 and 14) loved sleeping in the loft. The cottage was immaculate and all of the property was extremely beautiful and well cared for. Being able to use the fridge in the horse barn was a great side benefit. We even enjoyed a few games of pool, as well as watching some of the beautiful horses. We had full access to a great patio and a top quality grill on which we made several meals.

The location was perfect, as Suttons Bay is full of wonderful shops, restaurants, and parks right on the bay. Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leelanau State Park, Lake Leelanau, and the towns of Northport, Empire, and Leland kept us very busy. We also enjoyed a couple of treks to Traverse City, which has a rich history and great places to visit. Highly recommended!

Peaceful Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at Just 'S' Hills. I loved that it was tucked away in the trees, off the main road. The living space was extremely pleasant. I enjoyed the filtered sunlight, well chosen furnishings, beautiful landscaping and quiet! The owners were very hospitable.

Very Cozy!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, relaxing place to stay, my assistant & I were in town on business. Close to food, shopping, wineries,Lake Michigan & Traverse City. Debbie & her family were friendly, respectful and provided us with everything we needed. I would highly recommend this place for a vacation spot! This vacation rental sits on a beautiful country setting, when you wake up in the morning you can see the horses from the bedroom window! We will defiantly be back to stay within the year!
