We loved staying in the town of Lewes. My husband and I rode our bikes to the beach each day and my parents loved walking through Lewes and taking in the history, shops and restaurants. The house was great for us - a large kitchen area and a nice private patio. We like to cook so we really enjoyed the stocked kitchen.
We loved staying at this little historic home. Town was beautiful and the location of the house was great for our family of 5. Close to the town shops, playground, and the ice cream shop.
Great home, very clean and magnificently equipped.
The house is adorable and located perfectly to shops and restaurants!
My husband and a friend of ours spent Thanksgiving week in this delightful home. It is large, but cozy. The well-appointed kitchen made our cooking and baking easy. The location is perfect - very easy walking distance to the downtown restaurants and shops. Restaurants we particularly enjoyed were; The Gate House, Agave, A Taste of Italy, Jerry's Seafood, and Kindle. It is a nice walk to the beach. An easy drive to the grocery stores and the outlets. We also enjoyed a beautiful autumn bike ride (to Rehoboth and through Cape Henlopen State Park) with bikes rented from Seagreen Bicycle.
The homeowners were easy to work with and took care of everything.
My family returned this weekend from a week at this wonderful house. The house was super clean, thoughtfully and beautifully decorated and furnished, and it had really nice amenities (e.g., Viking stove and very nicely renovated bathrooms). The kitchen area is gorgeous, with wood beams/high ceiling and many windows and an open concept. We spent most of our time in that area and the adjacent sitting room, and I was happy it tempted us away from the small TV room. Everything was spotless when we arrived, which was really appreciated. Nice backyard for hanging out and we also hung around the front stoop and chatted with neighbors and watched passersby. The location is superb - we walked just 2-4 blocks to everything there was, though the beach is a longer journey, walkable but long and so we drove and parked with no problem - and the historic exterior adorable. Utensils, dishes, kitchen knives, laundry, coffee maker, bike, on and on, everything you need. Downsides: The space won't work for everybody. We were flexible and it worked, but it wasn't ideal. There is a master bedroom and a bedroom a few feet away with two twins. They share a large upstairs full bathroom in the hallway. The other full bathroom is on the first floor in the main area where no bedrooms are. There is a pull out couch in the adjacent room (the TV room). The other room is essentially an attic room with two twins. Cute and nice but a low low angled ceiling and you have to take stairs up to the room from inside of the master bedroom. The two sitting rooms on the first floor are cosy and very nice and very comfy, but small. No room for kids to play and no great room; just room for 4 unless you pull over a kitchen chair or two for two more people to squeeze in. So just FYI as to those possible limitations. If that's no issue for you, this was a wonderful house (A+, and we have been to beach houses for decades, though mostly we stay beachfront so staying in town was different but we liked it a lot) and the owner was great and made things easy and simple as they should be. We will be back. We loved the house, our week, and our first time in Lewes. Lewes felt like a small Cape Cod town, with cute restaurants, a few shops, park/canal front, and streets of cute historic homes. Good for families with small kids, as the town is quiet and calm and not much going on (15-20 minute drive to putt putt and movies and a boardwalk), and the beach is the bay with zero waves.
Beautiful home in historic village that include quaint shops and numerous cafe and restaurants. Walk to the Bay or view the Boats on the Canal a block away, Walk only 2 blocks to the center of town that features King's Ice Cream, Visit the extensive Farm Market that is featured directly across the street in the Historical Society. Have dinner at the wonderful Mexican Restaurant Agave after you had a day kayaking on the canal. Start your day at the famous Lewes Bakery and then follow up with breakfast at Nectar only a five minute walk from the home. Bike ride to the scenic Cape Henlopen State Park or the Lewes Cape May Ferry and take a ride to Cape May. View the Chamber of Commerce weekend events in any given month.
