About Allen

The redhead next to me is my wife Ana. We have 2 daughters who are grown and are on their own ( not really, if you are a parent you know) and a 14 pound Schnoodle ( he thinks he is a giant). We have been living in the DC metro area for about 36 years and absolutely love it. Washington DC is a beautiful city, it really is and for people coming here to spend their vacations or attend conferences, weddings, funerals (The Arlington Cemetery), graduations, sight seeing, festivals etc. etc. there isn't any city that offers so much. I manage the properties and Ana tells me what to do (!!!) We are a great team and enjoy doing what we do.

Great spot for a DC vacation

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our stay. Everything as advertised. Uber to many historic locations and museums as low as $3.00. Nice yard to sit out in the evenings. We were happy to have a nice visit with Allan the last evening of our visit. Always nice to touch base with the property owner. Apartment was clean (important). We would recommend this place for sure.

Adequate

  • 2 of 5

The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was nice. The bathroom was very tiny but adequate. My main complaint was that on the fifth night of my stay, someone had a pretty loud, boisterous party right above my basement bedroom. Loud voices and music. Even with my super duper earplugs (that even block out my boyfriend's snoring), I felt like I was right in the middle of the party. And, it didn't start until 11pm. I finally took a sleeping pill, so don't what time the party finally finished.

The location was good for me, but I will not be staying there again. I would recommend searching for another place unless you can sleep through anything!

Good location fro Convention Center and U Street night life

What you would expect in an inexpensive basement apartment. Convenient to everything I wanted. Quiet neighborhood, except during the weekends. You can hear the people walking above but that is typical of basements in older buildings. The owner is very responsive, which is always a great plus.

Very nice property for the money. Bus runs right by house on 4th st. and easy commute. Alan the owner is a joy to work with. Man of his word. Hate the sirens of the area but that's just DC. Would like to come back for the cherry blossom festival but this time my granddaughter had a summer class at Gallaudet University. (She teaches signing at her school on a volunteer basis.) 10 minute commute to the school by car unless there is a traffic jam.

Perfect for 2!

  • 4 of 5

We are a family of 4: 2 adults with a 14 and 10 year old sons. This vacation was incredible and we took our boys at just the right age because they were in awe of and appreciated everything . We were not directly downtown, but we were in a good walking distance of everything we wanted to see. In fact, we started out the day walking to all of the major tourist attractions and by the end of the day, we took a well deserved cheap Uber ride back to the apartment. There is a bus stop right outside of the apartment, and even if we decided to take the car when we went to Arlington Cemetery (A must see by the way) we found adequate FREE parking within a block of our stay.

I do have to say, if I had it to do all over again with all 4 of us, I would have asked if Allen had a larger apartment for us as the basement apartment we stayed in is really just right for 2. But I cant say enough about Allen's responsiveness to questions and concerns we may have had throughout the trip...he was great!

We will definitely come back and when we do, we will see if Allen has available space for all of us. Or maybe the hubs and I will venture back on our own.
