About David and Helen

We're IT Professionals

David and Helen purchased this villa in 2012

Why David and Helen chose Aruba

We bought this property because we liked it's unique layout and location:

L-shaped with a totally private courtyard, Villa is airy and well ventilated - all rooms have cathedral ceilings, and all closets are walk-in.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk to Palm Beach which is one of the best beaches on the island plus upscale shopping, eating, entertainment.

We love snorkeling so when we come here we rent a car and go to our favorite Boca Catalina beach which is just 10 minutes drive.

We live in US and come to our house in Aruba every year. While we are back in US our villa is taken care of by a very good management company we hired.

Guest services, cleaning, gardening, pool care, etc - all taken care off.

We love our house - hopefully so will you if you choose to rent it.

Helen, David

What makes this villa unique

Unlike the crowded hotels, our home gives you both the seclusion & privacy &

the convenience of a great location just outside the hotel area, close to everything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband, sister in law and I rented this house for 12 nights. Location was amazing. Walking distance to beach, restaurants and bars was less than 10 minutes. House was very spacious inside and out. Great pool to cool off in. Plenty of lounge chairs and a covered lanai if you needed to be in from the sun. We had a very relaxing vacation at this house.

One of the best places we've stayed in

  • 5 of 5

We've done vacation rentals all over the world and Villa Monplaisir is one of the best we've stayed in.

Location is excellent and quickly found the back roads to the beach, groceries, airport, etc.

Villa is spacious, clean, comfortable and private. Backyard with pool, cabana, outdoor kitchen with grill, and laundry is just another room in the house with no roof. :)

Owners and management are easily reachable and very helpful.

When we return to Aruba we'll stay at this place again!

Practical home with a great floor plan.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week stay at Villa Monplaisir. The management of the property were very helpful prior to and following our stay. All my expectations were met or exceeded. The photos are a very accurate representation of what the property looks like. Beds were comfortable, the A/C worked great and the floor plan was very practical. The Master bedroom being located away from the main area kept the noise out and allowed for my two young children to sleep easily during nap time and early bed time hours. I was a little surprised to find there was no oven, however, they do have a NuWave oven and toaster oven as an alternative. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Aruba.

Your Own Private Hideaway.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have 5 teenagers so vacations of any kind can be an ordeal. We have started a family tradition of launching our kids into to college with a destination vacation as long as we could get there with Southwest frequent flyer miles. Two years ago, it was the Grand Canyon. Recently, Southwest started flying to Aruba so the hunt for the perfect place to stay was on. We hava always typically stayed in hotels, but with the seven of us, having to book two or even three hotel rooms was ludicrous. Enter VRBO, Helen and David and the Brilliant Villa Monplaisir.

What you see in the pictures is what you get. It is all lovely, spacious and yet cozy. Your own private compound with a pool, outside kitchen and dining room, inside kitchen and dining room, bedrooms galore, cable, laundry and the now mandatory WIFI. It is set away from the tourist districts and city traffic but so close to L.G. Smith Boulevard and Route2, the house is thirty minutes from the furthest points on the island. David and Helen have lots of maps and a binder of places to visit and see. We loved all the beaches but were continually drawn back to Catalina Cove (about a 10 minute drive north of the house) and Baby Beach (on the southern tip) for snorkeling and people watching.

For food we made daily stops at the nearby Super Food grocery in order to eat at home for breakfast, and a few lunches. When those got old or the kids got tired of "culinary adventures" we could walk to Subway, Wendy's, or Casa Tua Pizzeria. We caught a 25 pound Wahoo on a half-day charter, and grilled the fish in the outdoor kitchen and ate fresh fish tacos outside in the outdoor dining room next to the kitchen. Wow.

The older kids walked over to Senor Frog's for dancing and over to the casino at REI one evening which instantly hit Snapchat and Instagram. We all enjoyed the Old Cunucu House Restaurant which is right around the corner and we would highly recommend it for a more "authentic" Aruban eating experience. A little pricey, but everything they put in front of us was delicious. It was a transformational vacation due in no small part to the wonderful "home base" Helen and David provided.

Great house in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in the villa. It was clean, spacious, and well-stocked with essentials and the air conditioning worked great. The private outdoor patio/pool was a wonderful place to relax after a day at the beach. We enjoyed using the grill, and having a washer/dryer onsite was very handy. Helen and David were very friendly and helpful, and booking/checkin/checkout were all very easy. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Aruba!

Thank you for everything Larry

Wonderful 10 days in Aruba

  • 5 of 5

Four of us (2 couples) had a wonderful 10 days Aruba vacation, and we loved to stay at this villa.

Dealing with Helen and David for booking and Julie while in Aruba seamless. It was perferct vacation

from booking to traveling home.

It's comfortable, spacious, and private. Location is great - not even 10 minutes walk to the beach,

and plenty of places to eat and a couple of convenience stores right next to the house.

Villa has everything we needed: beach chairs, coolers, towels, fully stocked kitchen, laundry.

Fantastic swimming pool and an outdoor shower - every time I felt 'overheated'

I would jump into the pool for a dip.

I'd say this place is unique and is perfect for a family or a romantic vacation.

My wife and I are definitely are planning to stay next year - just the two of us.

Walking distance -- Palm Beach, a beautiful white sandy beach where the the Pro Am wind-surfing tournament is held annually. There are also plenty of white sandy beaches up and down the west coast and within driving distance; most within a 10 minute drive. All beaches in Aruba are public (this includes the beaches at the hotels) and most have free public parking areas. Also, most of the hotels have umbrellas and chairs, but may charge visitors for use. Boca Catalina, one of the best snorkeling locations on the island, is only a 7-10 minute drive.

The public bus stop is only a 5 minute walk; the buses provide service to most of the beaches, Oranjestad, and, with connections, the south and middle parts of the island.

Other Activities: Boating, shopping, kayaking, miniature golf, tennis
