The Grizzly Cabin is a rustic, elegant cabin set deep in the heart of the Crazy Mountains in Southwest Montana. The Grizzly Cabin is set in a secluded mountain canyon about 30 minutes outside of Big Timber, Montana. With two bedrooms and a loft, an elegant tiled walk-in shower and a relaxing sauna, the Grizzly Cabin is a luxurious retreat in a rugged and beautiful mountain range.
Our guests enjoy 160 private, stream front, mountain acres. These acres border Forest Service land and are leased exclusively for our guests. Big Timber Creek, a charming mountain stream with excellent trout fishing, flows through the middle of these acres, a stone's throw away from the cabin. Once this glacial, mountain stream flows over its roaring mountain waterfalls and turns into a gentle fishing stream, there is no public access to it until it joins the Yellowstone River just outside Big Timber. This makes it an untouched treasure trove of wild mountain trout, and untouched waters. Our guests enjoy exclusive access to 1.5 miles along Big Timber Creek.
Our 2 bedroom + loft, 1 bath cabin is Custom Built with rough sawn lumber, tongue and groove blue spruce pine, dark elegant trim, and custom finishes like our wagon wheel lantern chandelier. The cabin features rustic, reclaimed barn wood and log furniture. All furnishings are custom made by local artists and bespeak rustic luxury.
The master bedroom suite features a King size custom built wagon wheel artisan's bed. You'll think you're sinking into a cloud beneath the silken sheets and comforter. Watch the stars outside the floor to ceiling windows just beside the bed, and wake up to see mountain golden mountain peaks in the sunrise outside the sliding glass door. The master bedroom also features a two person sauna, complete with reading light and auxiliary port so you can listen to your favorite music. It's the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring this mountainous paradise.
The elegant bathroom features a custom built two-headed stone-tiled shower with glass sliding door. Enjoy the rain shower head and custom bowl sink in this rustic spacious bathroom.
The second guest bedroom features a log bunk bed made by a local Big Timber craftsman which comfortably sleeps two on the bottom and one on top. Both bedrooms have egress windows with beautiful views. The Master Suite has views of the Crazy Mountains and toward the Big Timber Creek, and the guest bedroom offers views down the canyon toward Lookout Mountain.
The kitchen features beautiful, hickory cabinets and stainless steel appliances. We have stocked the kitchen with the basic cooking essentials. You'll love cooking with our rustic cookware, and serving a hot meal on our elegant dishware.
The kitchen, dining room, and living room follow a concept of spaciousness with high ceilings and an open floor plan, and we maximize on the beautiful views toward the snow-capped Crazy Mountain Peaks and toward Big Timber Creek. You'll enjoy absolute seclusion and privacy on our privately leased 160 acres in the middle of one of God's most majestic mountain ranges.
The living room features a reclining leather couch along with a 55 inch flat screen plasma Ultra HDTV along with a modest movie library. A cell phone booster is provided for 3G and cell phone reception. Kick back and relax with a good book from our bookshelf or a board game from our game library beside the warm, stone mantle fireplace.
Only a few miles up the road from the cabin is Halfmoon Campground, which is the site of a forest service trail head. This trail head is the best in the Crazy Mountains and offers dozens of miles of hiking trails. You can take an easy paced day hike to Big Timber Falls or to one of many mountain lakes, or you can pick a challenging, multi-day backpacking trip into the Crazy Mountains wilderness. We highly recommend hiking the well-maintained trails to one of the many hidden mountain lakes and doing some fishing. Our personal record is 84 wild trout caught by one person in a single day!!! When you check into our cabins, we'll leave you with more information about where to find the best fishing lakes and hiking trails.
For hunters who book early enough, Montana Cabin Rentals can even connect you with hunting on thousands of acres of private land (fee access) on one of the oldest and largest ranches in the Crazies. This ranch is just next door to the south of the Grizzly Cabin. This is limited availability on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to book your vacation early!
We are a local Montana raised family who appreciate the outdoors and, in particular, the Crazy Mountains. We have been married almost 10 years and have two children. After living all over the place and traveling all over the country and world for work, we have both come to the conclusion that there is just no place like Montana. And especially, there is no place like the Montana Crazy Mountains and Big Timber.
I grew up on a ranch right next to this cabin retreat. We decided to build our ideal, luxury getaway cabin on this plot of land because we love the views, the private stream access fishing for trout (we love fly fishing), and of course the views of the Crazy Mountains. Another big plus to the location is that it is right off the county road so it is easy to access, and there are fabulous hiking trails in every direction. Halfmoon Campground is the site of the Forest Service Trail Head which leads to many hidden mountain lakes and streams, mountain peaks and day hikes. It's the perfect Montana playground and we spend a LOT of time there.
This cabin is situated just off the county road which means it is easy to find and easy access. Despite this, it is very secluded and away from everything. It sits on 160 privately leased acres which makes for a fantastic mountain playground. Big Timber Creek is a mountain stream that has virtually no public fishing access, because the only public access is higher up in the mountains where the stream is too fast with too many waterfalls to be ideal. This makes Big Timber Creek a virtually untouched treasure trove for the trout angler. Because we love to fly fish, there is no place better to hook a cutthroat, brown, rainbow or brook trout.
This cabin is also situated in a mountain canyon which has its own unique and very "outdoorsy," rugged feel. Beautiful views are in every direction, from the mountain peaks to Lookout Mountain to the forested ridge line above Big Timber Creek to Big Timber Creek. The cabin is also located only a few short miles from a Forest Service Trail Head which leads to waterfalls, mountain lakes, and many rugged peaks to summit. In short, it's the perfect place in Montana to have a getaway cabin.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very cozy and loved all the unique barn furniture. The bed in the master bedroom was luxurious. I did not want to get out of bed in the morning. It was wonderful to wake up to the sun shining on all the fresh snow. The managers were great to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. The only thing we wish is that we had more time there to explore more of the great outdoors that surrounded us.
Our overall experience was good, but we ran into a few problems that left us a little disappointed. Upon arrival we were given a code which did not work. There was not a cell signal at the cabin, so we had to drive back out about a mile until we got an good signal. After several phone calls, which ended up in voice mail, and text messages, we were able to get ahold of Kara, who gave us a different code to use. She later sent us a message that the housekeeper thought we were checking in the day before which would have been a different code. We unloaded our things, however it was a little inconvenient, as the parking area is in the rear of the cabin, and there is a gravel walkway going all the way around to other side of the home, where both the entrance door and sliding glass door are located. We stayed in July, so it was rather warm, and the cabin does not have a/c. The large window looking out to the Crazy Mountains, while beautiful, had no blinds. In mid afternoon the sun bakes on that window. The leather couch sitting in front of the window cannot be used until the sun goes down. The cabin was in process of being built at the time we booked. We expected new appliances throughout but they were obviously well used especially the Washer and Dryer. Speaking of which, they require you to do a load of sheets and towels before you leave, and honestly they were nothing to write home about, not luxurious like described and still you have to pay a cleaning fee. We rented for 5 nights. As I said earlier the housekeeper thought we were checking in the day before but showed up at the doorstep banging on the door after our 3rd night. We felt like our space had been invaded, and the housekeeper was checking in on us. While I understand the need to check in on the property, either she or Kara lied to us about the key code, the housekeeper, or they were just plain nosy. The television was about worthless you could only watch U-Tube videos, and you loose signal often. While watching TV someone typed a message that they needed to restart the internet, disgusted again because, well we just don't trust Smart TV's I felt like we were being watched. We turned the TV off and never turned it back on. We had to forge a trail down to fish, the first stream you come to is to small for fish after trudging through high weeds to a better fishing area, but caught nothing. Campground traffic was unreal, secluded it was not, We would not come back, just disappointed overall.
We loved every minute we were there, having our family together was priceless.
I've got nothing but good to report on our stay. This cabin was really lovely. The furnishing was so cool. I know that kind of barn wood furniture is super expensive it was really fun to stay in a cabin furnished that way. The barn wood bed in the master bedroom bed has to be the coolest bed I've ever slept in. The mattress was super comfortable as well, and all the sheets were heavenly. I've never slept with Pure Beach sheets but those are amazing and I'm totally ordering some when I get home. Where do you even buy them?
Staying at the "Grizzly Cabin" was really a treat for my family. The pictures looked amazing from the website but they really don't do it justice. Big Timber Creek Canyon is so beautiful, you feel like you've been transported to another time. And the cabin itself is just what the headline reads: "rustic luxury." We did a lot of hiking in the Crazy Mountains, both on the property around the cabin and from the trail head at Half Moon Campground. I highly recommend hiking up to some of the lakes up in the Crazy Mountains. The trail head is just a few minutes from the Grizzly Cabin and the views from way up there are beyond words. We followed Big Timber Creek for a while and saw literally dozens of beautiful waterfalls. We saw deer, bear tracks. lots of birds and eagles, and even mountain goats! At night after a day of hiking it was so much fun to gather around a campfire and roast s'mores (and steaks one night!). There is literally no city lights anywhere so the stars are so bright and you can see the whole Milky Way light up at night. I'll remember this for the rest of my life it was an amazing experience. I hope we can come back.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Grizzly Cabin was amazing! Who else can say they actually stayed in a romantic cabin in the mountains of Montana on more than a hundred acres! What a treat! We went there for our 10 year anniversary and everything was perfect. Everything was super clean and tidy and ready for our arrival. The sauna was super cool to have in the master bedroom. That shower was ridiculously amazing, I wanted to bring it home with us lol! Thanks again for the stay!
When was the last time you stayed in a luxurious cabin in a mountain canyon, 20 miles from the nearest town of only 1500? When was the last time you enjoyed 160 pristine, forested acres along a beautiful mountain stream teaming with brook trout, cutthroat, browns and rainbows. . . that only you had access to? When was the last time you sat out on your own front porch to watch the sunset, and you heard absolutely nothing but the sound of wildlife? Well that is the experience we offer you at Montana Cabin Rentals. If you are looking for this and more, then look no further. Whether you stay with us for a few nights, a week, or even a month, we are confident you won't want to leave!
Big Timber Creek Canyon is famous among the locals. Yet it's far enough off the beaten path that you won't run into many tourists. At the end of the road, only a few miles past Montana Cabin Rentals, is a Forest Service Campground called Halfmoon Campground. Halfmoon Campground offers 12 camping spots and access to tens of thousands of acres of hiking trails. These trails lead to hidden mountain lakes below rugged mountain peaks. Try your luck fishing in this natural habitat where many others boast of catching 100 fish per day! And bring a couple back with you to our luxury cabin so you can pan fry a wild trout dinner. Or choose your challenge and summit a mountain peak of your choice to enjoy dizzying views in all directions. Whatever adventure you seek for the day, come back to our cozy Montana Cabin Rentals as your base camp to unwind and rejuvenate with all the comforts of modern living.
To find Montana Cabin Rentals, you'll just head straight toward the mountains until you find yourself in such overpowering mountain beauty that you'll have to stop the car- that's when you'll have arrived. Practically speaking, travel 7 miles North of Big Timber Montana on Highway 191. Then you'll turn toward the mountains on the gravel Wormser Loop Road, and finally onto Big Timber Canyon Road.
Watch the Crazy Mountains get bigger and closer as you wind your way further up, and further in. When you finally drop down into the creek bottom of the scenic Big Timber Creek Canyon, you'll know you're getting close. And finally, just a few miles from the end of the road, turn off onto the driveway of your mountain cabin getaway. We'll leave the light on and turn on the fire place and the sauna, so all you have to do is kick back, relax, and plan your adventure.
On your drive, don't be surprised to see some local wildlife. Hundreds of deer and trophy elk, moose, bear, mountain lions, antelope, bobcats, beavers and racoons, jackrabbits, mountain goats, eagles and hawks and owls- these are just a few of the more prevalent guests to keep an eye out for.
And don't forget that Big Timber is a short 90 minute drive from Yellowstone National Park, either through Paradise Valley to Gardner and Mammoth or through Red Lodge and the famous Beartooth Highway. It's right on Interstate 90 about half way between Billings and Bozeman, and offers easy access to either.
