The little town of Lead may seem inconspicuous when passing through, but it's home to the largest and longest operating gold mine in America. The Homestake Mine was established in 1877 and closed in 2002, but thanks to its prolific production of gold the area boomed in the late 19th century and Lead became a destination for both miners and vacationers. Today, it attracts a diverse suite of travelers, from outdoor recreationists to history buffs to hunters and fishermen. And this particular cabin sits right at the nexus of all of the area's most interesting and exciting activities, but the home is a destination all on its own.
Sleeping up to 10 people, this spacious and well-lit cabin provides an abundance of room to move about without ever feeling crowded by you traveling companions. You can lounge on one of the comfy sofas and enjoy the gas fireplace or satellite TV. The large kitchen will invite you to linger with a drink or snack while you appreciate the cabin’s rustic wood furniture and floors, its sleek track lighting, and its ample granite countertops. And after a full day of activities you’ll definitely want to take a dip in the large, private hot tub to soak and relax.
Though the cabin’s interior is warm and welcoming, you’ll also want to take advantage of the spacious deck where you’ll be able to grill on a barbeque and enjoy a meal under an open sky. You’ll also want to bring the ball and glove, soccer or football to play around on the large grass field. As you venture out into the area, whether winter or summer, you’ll be able to enjoy downhill skiing at Terry Peak Ski Area, snowmobiling and ATV riding on any of the hundreds of trails right off of the cabin’s front deck.

The house was wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had about everything you could need, the floors and furniture in great shape, and it was decorated nicely. The location is nice, close to town but not too close to feel you are in the hills. Most impressive was the Jonna from Deadwood Connections. We woke up on a cool Sunday morning to find the fireplace didn't work. Within a few hours, on a Sunday, she had someone there to fix it. I recommend the property to anyone.
I rented the cabin so our family (married children and grandchildren) could spend a nice week together. Overall, we really enjoyed our vacation there and we were happy with the cabin. The cabin though is in dire need of a bedding upgrade. The beds squeek each time you moved. So for the young married couples who wanted some "alone" time, they really couldn't have it because everyone in the cabin would hear them. The other thing to be aware of is there was no air conditioning. So on those hot 90+ degree days, it was hard sleeping upstairs, even with the fans blowing. I too would have to add that there wasn't enough seating in the living room. We had a group of 8 so, 2 to 3 individuals always had to sit on the floor or at the kitchen table if we were all watching a movie or TV.
wood flooring and tile, COMFORTABLE beds and cloud-like Charisma pillows, and the CLEANEST hot tub I have seen at a rental property. Ralph Lauren towels were enough for multiple guests. The living room furniture has changed from photograph so we only had one sofa; therefore, some of us had to sit at the kitchen table when all of us were at the cabin at the same time. The property is on a gravel road ( motorcyclists may want to know this) we would have had an issue with this if it had been our personal bike. There was functionable space throughout minus the upstairs shower but manageable if you are not a big/tall build. SUPERB water pressure ! We were able to wash / dry clothes as needed. I was not a fan of the stacked washer / dryer but it worked ok in a pinch. Bosch Dishwasher was AWESOME !! I have already decided when my personal home needs a new one it will be the super quiet Bosch, it was very nice as well as the other appliances , most are Cuisinart in kitchen. Garage is very nice. The rental company should give more detail/ photos about it since it is a SUPER nice opinion. The Garage is a large two car garage with handy counter tops. Nice to come in empty saddlebags onto the counters. The only thing I was disappointed in was the unmowed lawn in the back. The tall grass / weeds/ wild flowers were as tall as the railing in the deck in the back. I would not feature out into it, all I could think was Snake ! Front lawn was well mowed. One thing I would petition the rental company to change is make is a policy to CHANGE the garage/ lock box code to the last four of the renters phone number or code renter chooses. This would make the renter feel more secure knowing the code was changed from renter to renter in addition it would be easier for the renter to remember. Property location between town of Lead and Ice box canyon was nice. We stayed the last week in July and into the first of August temperatures were 85+ during the day and cool at night , two mornings we woke to 38 degrees !! With the cool evenings we did not miss the AC as log as we came home in late evening. Opening the windows gave plenty to cool air in the evening.
