We rented for a getaway with girlfriends. It was perfect to go out for adventure during the day and come back to the cabin to rest up (hot tub soak, fireplace soak, wifi, and comfortable beds). The cabin was simple enough to keep cost down, but had everything we needed. Quiet lot with just a couple of other cabins in sight.
We had the greatest time just hanging out, cooking and hot tubbing. A nice quiet area that was also close to everything.
The house was hot, no AC. We sweat until midnight the first 2 nights we stayed there. Never again.
We had never rented a vacation home before, so we were somewhat apprehensive. We were very impressed with the detailed emails, and prompt answers to my questions. The cabin was well beyond our expectations! It was clean, in excellent shape, stocked with all we needed, and in a beautiful location. Our 4 adult children were able to join us and were impressed as well. We had such a special time playing games, enjoying the hot tub, taking walks, and eating meals together. We appreciated having a washer & dryer and wifi. There was a nice grocery store with reasonable prices in Deadwood only 15 minutes away. The girls rented bikes at Deadwheel Bike Rental in Deadwood and the guys rented ATVs at Mad Mountain Adventures. (would recommend both places). We also did some shopping, mini golfed and ate in Deadwood. We did feel we were a little far from many of the attractions & Custer, but taking an evening to drive to Mount Rushmore & an afternoon driving Spearfish Canyon wasn't so bad; and our family is at the age they didn't need a lot of that entertainment. Time spent at the cabin was the best part! We would love to come back some day!
We enjoyed a June vacation in the cabin. It was the perfect home base for us to see many South Dakota attractions. We were about an hour away from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse memorial, Custer State Park, and Rapid City. We also went to Devils Tower Wyoming which was about an hour and a half away. Deadwood was a short 10 minute drive from the cabin. The cabin had everything we needed to prepare breakfast and dinner. We did have a hard time figuring out how to use the gas oven, but happily received a quick response from the local contact about the oven. The oven was fine, we were just not familiar with electronic lit gas ovens and didn't know how to light it. We were very thankful for the air condition in the cabin since we happened to be there on the hottest June day on record. The kids loved sleeping in the loft. The hot tub was really nice to relax in after a long day of sight seeing.
My husband and I enjoyed our first weekend away in over two years. With 3 kids under 10, we wanted peace and quiet - total relaxation. This cabin delivered! We drank our coffee on the deck in the morning to the sound of NOTHING. Total silence. It was perfection. Occasionally an eagle could be heard screaming across the valley, which was quite a lovely view and we enjoyed checking it out with binoculars. Wild turkeys ate around the property. Once we passed the cabin "neighborhood" and got to our end of the road, we were alone (and yes, we were thankful to have 4WD even with no snow on the ground) so unless we left the cabin we saw no one. The beds were super comfy. We grilled steaks every night and drank wine in that huge hot tub, which was indeed very private. The kitchen was a little tight but we love to cook so we made it work. It was well stocked! Half the things I brought for the kitchen went right back into the truck, there was quite a selection of seasonings for our use as well as olive oil, good balsamic vinegar, coffee and filters, paper towels, someone even left AI steak sauce and butter in the fridge. We ate, drank, soaked, slept, and relaxed and we felt like kings of the mountain. I loved that it was close enough to the ski resort, so we'll be back when there's more snow on the ground and we'll bring the kids. There was more than enough room for a family of 5. We appreciated the books, board games, cards, Netflix and Pandora. There was even a camelbak in the laundry room which we would have used if we had stayed longer and done some hiking. I was worried about cell reception (to contact the babysitter, of course) but we had no problems and the Wifi was fine. We hated to leave!! THE ONE and ONLY thing that I would change about this cabin is this: The doors lock via a turn lock in the doorknob. There is no deadbolt. I would have felt much more secure if there were a deadbolt installed. I will still absolutely recommend this wonderful cabin to any and everyone. :)
