Located in central Maine's Piscataquis River Valley, Sebec Lake is surrounded by a land of recreational opportunity. Whether you come to relax in New England's rural countryside or accept the challenge of the Appalachian Trail, Sebec Lake has it all. Boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, canoeing, scenic drives and wildlife viewing are among the many activities found in the Maine Highlands region that surrounds Sebec Lake.
A scenic 45-mile drive northwest of Bangor takes you to the rolling hills and wooded shoreline of Lake Sebec. The 11-mile long lake is formed on the Sebec River by the Sebec Dam. Twice a year Sebec Lake's water level is lowered from its average depth of 42 feet to encourage the salmon spawning.
More than 800 properties are tucked among the trees surrounding Sebec Lake. Whether you select a lakeside or countryside vacation rental, the lake will provide the perfect home away from home. Here you can wake to fresh mountain air, plan your daytime excursions, and relax to the calling of loons at the end of a perfect day. Visitor needs are served by the quaint communities of Dover-Foxcroft, Bowerbank, Milo, Willimantic and Sebec.
Peaks-Kenny State Park is near the community of Dover-Foxcroft. Here you will find 813 acres offering campsites, picnic areas, restrooms, showers, a bathhouse and beach. Several public parks and ramps can be found along Sebec Lake's shoreline, concentrated in the communities of Dover-Foxcroft, Sebec and the village of Sebec Lake. The Milo Public Boat Landing provides access to Sebec Lake from the Sebec River.
Maine's Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department places Sebec Lake in Region E (Moosehead Region). They state that the pristine waters of Sebec Lake are one of the original homes of landlocked salmon in Maine. Stocked lake trout can also be found along with smallmouth bass and white perch.
The dramatic view that spans Sebec Lake's horizon includes Mount Katahdin. At 5,267 feet, it is Maine's highest mountain and the end of the Appalachian Trail. To the north of Sebec Lake is Borestone Mountain. Here you can hike the trails of the 1,640-acre Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary or visit their interpretive nature center. Located within the shadows of the mountains are Moosehead Lake, Maine's largest lake, and Baxter State Park, where you can enjoy hiking, climbing and camping.
Whether you choose to canoe, kayak, bike, hike or drive into Sebec Lake's countryside, the scenery is spectacular. Not to be missed are the nineteenth-century Katahdin Iron Works State Historic Site and two National Natural Landmarks. The first is Gulf Hagas, a 3.5-mile long gorge that is part of the Appalachian Trail. In contrast to the rugged bedrock of the gorge, "The Hermitage" holds 35 acres of Maine's oldest white pines and is protected by the Nature Conservancy.
Summer is not the only busy season at Sebec Lake. When "leaf peepers" arrive to view the spectacular color around Lake Sebec, thoughts turn to camping, hiking and the chance to hunt. Among the wildlife to be found in the forests or game preserves are black bear, moose, deer, elk and game birds. During the winter, Sebec Lake residents can expect to see temperatures approach zero with area snowfalls averaging 85 inches annually. This is the season for ice fishing, snowmobiles, skis, snowshoes and dogsleds. No matter the season or choice of recreation, a stay at Sebec Lake will place you central to it all.
Jenn and Raf are Maine lovers who enjoy spending time at this serene and peaceful property. Bringing their twins to the lake house is one of the most relaxing times and they cherish the memories made at this beautiful spot. Jenn is originally from Maine and spent most of her life in the Bangor area. Raf fell in love with Maine many years ago and calls this property a "piece of heaven".
Rafal Subernat purchased this house in 2012
Lake house has all of the modern amenities, but also charming rustic feel to it. It has a beautiful stone fireplace, hot tub, and is luxuriously appointed. Waterfront location allows for amazing views and spotting of wildlife. Listening to loons and peepers at night is very relaxing while sitting by the fire at night time.
Quiet, private, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, wildlife, amazing views to name a few...
We had a phenomenal time at the lake house on Lake Sebec! The house is stunning and it has every available amenity needed for a great stay! The beds were comfortable and the sheets/towels were excellent quality. We were able to enjoy some great family time and even got to see SNOW! It was a fantastic trip and we are looking forward staying again in the future!
The house looked small online but it's a decent size. It was clean and has everything you needed so you don't have to bring much. The inside were beautiful and my kids really enjoyed our stay there. The only downside for us was the closest regular store are about 35 minutes away (we didn't have to do since we brought everything that we needed and the other thing was the weather was kind of cold and windy. So we couldn't really enjoy the outdoor fire pit and kitchen much. The indoor fireplace was lovely and RAF did supplies us with woods which is a big plus!! Overall we love the house and hope to return to it again.
This is a long overdue review for such an amazing rental on lake sebec. We were lucky enough to rent this house last thanksgiving since we have family in the area along w a camp. The house was absolutely immaculate & the property management company does a great job! The owner was so accommodating and responsive with our needs. He answered the phone and my texts late when i could not figure something out. Linens included which were good quality were so appreciated. One less thing to pack considering I had to bring the thanksgiving dinner. The house set up was fantastic for us and everything was stocked that we could of needed. The lake view and location is the best and very private yet close to Dover for shopping needs. hot tub under the stars after a long day in the chilly weather was such a nice end to the day. The floor to ceiling stone fireplace is wonderful as well! We used it constantly. The location is close to moose head lake, mt Kathadin, Bangor, Dover foxcroft and even Acadia. You could not ask for a better rental especially for view amenities and the rate. Many thanks & we plan on coming back throughout this winter! I can not wait!
What a beautiful lake home, steps away from lake. It was quite and peaceful, allowing plenty of time for leisure. We sat on the deck every night to have our dinner in front of a fire. We had beautiful weather that allowed an absolutely stunning view of the stars. The hot tub as a perfect place for this star gazing. The house itself is well done and in great shape. We loved our time at Sebec lake, and really hated to go.
This house was everything and more! I would recommend it to anyone by far. There was absolutely everything included. All the extras we brought we thought we might need, was a waste. There is everything included. Everyone had such a great time and it was so relaxing. The outback is very nice especially since we had kids. The house is gorgeous inside and the views at night at the house are beautiful. I'm really at a loss of words how much this house impressed me. The Loons are another great thing that we got to see and hear everyday. The house was very clean and maintained when we got there. Raf is also a great person to deal with. He answered so many questions I had and was such a great help. We traveled back to Dover-Foxcroft and got fresh lobsters and brought them back to the house and steamed. Everyone loved that! We just basically sat at the house because it was so perfect! Again I would recommend this house to anyone and everyone!
My wife 3 children (12,8 and 8), spent the last weekend in August and first week of September at this spectacular cottage. All you need is to provide food and everything else one would need is already available. We enjoyed viewing eagles and Loons each day. Fishing off the dock kept the kids entertained. The kayaks were nice to go out and enjoy the lake too. The only problem was we could only stay a week. The people in Dover Foxcroft were very welcoming. We look forward to visiting again.
