Log Cabin On A Lake With Private Dock

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Photos and Description of this Holmes holiday cabin

Original 1950s, Lakefront Log-cabin With Updated Amenities And Decor.

Quintessential Hudson Valley, just over an hour north of NYC, charming and peaceful 1950s cabin with private lake dock on beautiful Lake Dutchess. This non-motorboat, private lake is the perfect setting for the Fall foliage, Winter snowscapes, Spring blooms, and Summer swimming. Take a canoe ride (provided), fish (PLENTY of bass), a summer dip, or even an ice skate in the winter.

Immersed in the woods, this cozy log cabin is a perfect mix of rural/rustic charm and updated, modern appeal. Gut-renovated in early 2015, the cabin has an open living room with skylights, huge windows to the lake, and a retro fireplace. Three small bedrooms branch off the living room, two rooms with a queen-size bed each, and one with a bunk bed. One updated, white bathroom with shower. The kitchen comes fully equipped with new appliances and opens up to the dining room, which has a wall of windows to the lake. From there, you can exit onto the top deck of the house for the grill or relax on the patio furniture, or the porch swing on the lower deck. The house is built on a huge rock which is also great to lay on during the summers, or head down to the lake dock (just a few footsteps away), and hang out there, take a swim, or grab the canoe or paddle board.

Additional amenities provided include AC/Heating system, Wireless WiFi, fishing poles, canoe, paddleboard (summer) , firelogs (winter), high thread-count sheets, cotton towels, Beekman 1802 Toiletries, outdoor grill, washer/dryer, Apple TV with Netflix, Hulu, and HBO accounts, and most kitchen needs.

The location of the house is perfect. Though quietly nestled in the woods surrounded by nature, it is a mile or two from Interstate-84 which takes you straight to Beacon in 20 minutes. Metro North's Southeast station on the Harlem Line is 10 minutes away so a commute to NYC is very convenient for guests who need to come and go.

The area attractions include Beacon, which besides being a trendy Hudson Valley town right on the Hudson River with amazing shops and restaurants, is home to the world-renowned DIA Art Museum. And not much further from Beacon is the sculpture park Storm King, another must-see for any art-enthusiast. Other nearby Hudson Valley towns include Cold Spring, Carmel, Brewster, Pawling, and Wappinger Falls.

Summer activities in area include some of the best hiking in the country. Breakneck Ridge was named by Newsweek one of the 10 Best Hiking Trails in the Country. named it the top hiking trail in North America! The Beacon Reservoir and Fire Tower is a nice hike too. Also, the iconic Appalachian Trail is less than a 10 minute drive from the house. The Hudson Valley area also has waterfalls, farms, horseback riding, and shopping. There is also Splashdown Beach, a water park 15 minutes away. During the winter, besides the frozen lake and beautiful snow-covered surroundings, there is Thunder Ridge Ski Resort 10 minutes away. The Autumn is amazing with the colorful fall foliage every which way and festivals abound. Go apple-picking at the beautiful Fishkill Farms, only ten minutes away. And of course Spring starts us into summer with the snow melting and the leaves and flowers blooming!

PLEASE NOTE: During the Winter and early Spring months, four-wheel/all-wheel drive is highly recommended to access the cabin. There is a particular hill on the road that is tough otherwise.

About Jason

I am a Brooklyn-based designer and graphic artist, married to my husband Saar with a small, sweet dog named Annie.

Jason purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Jason chose New York

We fell in love with lakefront cabin life staying with a friend and enjoying all that their lake had to offer. We were looking for a similar weekend getaway and this lovely house just fell from the Gods it seemed.

What makes this cabin unique

We've often been told that the house works both for someone who wants a rustic, authentic cabin-feel, as well as for someone who may perhaps not want to leave all modern conveniences aside and appreciates art and design. It's comfortable, cozy, tasteful, and can be as adventurous or peaceful as you make it. It seems to please almost every type of person needing a break from city life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin is very clean, very cozy, and so very, very cute! And we got a lot of use out of the lake, which was pristine. We will be back!

Lovely house in lovely place.

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, well equipped and comfortable house in fantastic place just near the private lake. We've had a relaxing family weekend with our children and granddaughters with boating and fishing. Even with rain outside it worked well. Thanks a lot for the perfect organization and clean facility. Warm recommendations for families and small groups.

Clean well done cabin on lake with dock and water board and kayak. Interior very nice. Kitchen could use toaster and non stick pans. Great get away for a small family.

A wonderful little home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Jason is a pleasure to work with and his cabin is a little gem. The setting is beautiful and the home is sprinkled with little touches that make it feel very special. It is spotlessly clean and well kept. The beds are very comfortable and it is quiet and serene. Yes, it is small but still provides three bedrooms and a large sitting area and dining area. Also has wifi and cable. A wonderful find in a good location. Thank you Jason for sharing it. Mary Anne

A Lovely Weekend on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this super cute cabin for my birthday weekend with a couple of friends.

We frequently rent weekend houses upstate and deemed this one to be one of our favorites, yet.

We spent endless hours on the dock and in the canoe fishing and relaxing.

We are quite the amateurs at fishing and didn't catch a singe one.

But, we had the most fun laughing at each other for pretending to know what we were doing.

The house is so cozy and charming. And, very convenient to town for grocery runs.

Jason was super attentive and went out of his way to accommodate my last minute schedule change.

We will definitely be staying here again.

A Fantastic Place to Vacation

  • 5 of 5

There are so many wonderful things about this property! We were fortunate enough to visit during August when it was close to 100 degrees. We spent our days in the lake and had the luxury of air conditioning when we were in the cabin. The kitchen is small but honestly, had everything I needed to cook some spectacular meals with the help of the grill. There were 3 good knives for chopping, cutting boards, a large salad bowl and even a salad spinner. Basics like olive oil, salt, pepper, a few spices, butter had accumulated from previous guests. There wasn't a ton of stuff in the kitchen but for my style of cooking it was everything I needed. The beds were very comfortable and we loved the pillows so much that we ordered some online so they would be there when we got home! It was very quiet the whole week we were there. I think we saw no more than 6 people every day around the lake. There is some kind of algae thing that happens in the lake but as soon as we would complain about it, the wind or rain would blow it away somewhere else. One of my friends says the water needs an aerator to control the growth but not sure how you do it in an entire lake.

Jason has thought of just about everything: there is a generator in case the power goes out, all the lake toys you would want and fishing poles. There was a list of activities in the area . Our favorite town was Pawling. There's an awesome Italian Deli there named Vinny's where they make fresh Mozzarella daily and have lots of other yummy sandwiches and Italian delicacies. We had brunch in Pawling on our fist morning there and the town has a Farmer's market on Saturday morning that was very good. Mostly small family farmers who were very personable and interesting to speak to. Check out the eggs from the egg lady!

Just as a heads up: the cabin is small even though there are 3 bedrooms, so go with people you really like! If you need the air conditioning like we did, the bedroom doors have to be open in order to cool them. The one bathroom was small and for the 3 of us it was fine, but keep it in mind for larger groups. There is a spiral staircase down to the lake and the alternative route with our small dog was down a steep hill, so this is not the place for someone who can't manage the stairs.

We had a wonderful week and I highly recommend this cabin.

Perfect VRBO Experience

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I rented Jason's Lake Dutchess cabin for a 4 day weekend of quiet relaxation. We experienced everything we were hoping for and more. The home is a pleasant blend of classic rustic charm and modern amenities. We enjoyed the two lake-facing decks, canoe rides, walks around the lake, dinners on the grill and most of all, the quietness and peacefulness of the private lake community. If you enjoy fishing, the lake is flourishing with bass, perch, bluegill, crappie and other species. The inside of the cabin is simply and tastefully decorated. The front of the house is all windows, offering a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding woods. The property is ideally located just off Rt. 84 and there is plenty of shopping for supplies just down the road in Brewster. Jason makes the whole experience convenient and uncomplicated. We'll be returning again later in the year. Thanks, Jason!
