Beautiful lakehouse

  • 5 of 5

I booked the house for my husbands family visiting from Ireland. They were absolutely thrilled with the accommodations. Everything you could possibly need was there. The views are great, lake Winola is beautiful. The house was just down the road from our cottage so picking them up was super easy. So much more convenient than renting hotels in Tunkaneek. The porch was lovely, the dock, the house, all beautiful and clean. Would rent again. My visitors didn't want to go!!

Great Place!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent just about two weeks at this wonderful lake getaway!! The location of the house is just perfect on the lake and so many places to enjoy it from- the large covered porch; the front lawn, the deck above the dock and the dock!!! We were trying to escape the Houston August weather and although still a bit warmer than expected - the window units in the house kept it at a nice temperature for respite from the heat. We spent so much time outside though- the view, the fresh air were just marvelous. Bathrooms upstairs and down made the house very usable. The kitchen had all we needed and the gas grill was great! The TV both in the living room and master bedroom were great for the Olympics! Neighbors were friendly and welcoming. The owner was awesome to work with. We highly recommend this lake getaway house for rest and relaxation for family, friends or all by yourself!!

Absolutely Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Rented this beautiful home right on the water for a week. Had an excellent time just relaxing, fishing day and night, boating and swimming. The house is very beautiful, clean and well maintained with all the comforts of home. The owner checked with us during the week to ensure everything was okay and to inquire if we needed anything. The neighbors were very friendly as well. There is a small grocery store at the lake that has an excellent selection of meats and vegetables and homemade bread/rolls daily. Larger food chains within 20 minutes for other needs. I loved taking a very slow cruise at night with the boat, especially when the moon is full and first rising. I wish I could have stayed forever. If I don't purchase a lake home of my own like this one before next summer I will definitly be back.

Best lake house ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow!! Best lake house I have ever stayed in!! We travel often with our children, they enjoy swimming, fishing. Etc. This is the first "lake house" that is right On The Lake!!! No crossing roads, no fighting through a forest to get to the lake, it is truly lake living!! Thank you for our warm welcome. Thank you for the recommendations on dinner! Thank you for helping us with our luggage as we had two children in tow! Thank you for letting our precious terrier feel welcome as well!

We are so looking forward to the quiet peacefulness of your beautiful home again next summer break.

What a great value for this million dollar view!!

Renters Beware

  • 1 of 5

My family booked this rental and contacted the owner personally. I was quoted a price for the week and when my lease arrived it was a higher rate, as to which the homeowner never gave an explanation.

Other things that were not disclosed was the very large steep hill that proceeds the property....making it impossible for someone with any kind of physical limitations to easily access. One of our house guests had to make other arrangements for the week because they could not navigate the landscape without injury.

Upon awaiting my deposit I was stunned that the homeowner arbitrarily chose to keep 300.00 of my deposit. Our pet sitter had a conflict and when I contacted the homeowner about allowing our 8 lb dog to stay with us for a few days I was told that would ok but never given a fee for this accommodation. Apparently the homeowner figured it came at a price of 150.00????

We were 45 minutes late removing our luggage from the house due in part to the extreme undisclosed landscape and I was also charged 150.00 for this bc the homeowner said we prevented the "cleaning crew" from doing their job. This is an untrue statement as we only had luggage on the lawn that needed to be carried up the hill. In no way were we infringing upon the cleaning of the home.

I was told by the homeowner that "the scope of civility" was violated by having guests to our vacation rental (apparently reported by the neighbors). So beware...BIG BROTHER is watching!!! To which nothing about guests was in violation of the lease.

This is a case of a homeowners taking advantage of a renter, and then threatening legal action if I posted my honest and sincere review, so they could take additional money from unsuspecting renters!

Lake Winola is a wonderful vacation destination but I personally advise looking into a rental with more upfront homeowners who do not peremptorily impose unjustified fees in order to keep folks security deposits.

Owner's Response: The contract always and clearly states the quoted price. Like many lake properties, there is a downhill approach to the house. The steps have railings on both sides and new sidewalks were installed when the house was renovated. Up until this time, no one has ever stated any difficulty with accessing the house. Departure time is 11:00 a.m. When I arrived at 11:15 a.m. to do my routine evaluation of the property so as to direct the cleaning crew, tenant was in her nightgown, her children were still swimming in the lake and nothing had been packed. The tenant proceeded to tell me that she had her son's baseball team sleep over, and what a fabulous time they had all week long. Not only did I help pack, pick up all of their belongings from the dock, and lakeside porch, but I also carried the majority of the tenant's belongings to her car. In the end, tenant was 2 hours late vacating the premises. As a result, the cleaning crew charged me extra, which the tenant said she would pay for. As far as the pet fee, that is clearly stated on the website. Tenant texted me and said she had a problem with the person she hired from Craig'sList to watch her dog and wanted to bring the dog to the lake house. She told me to take the pet fee out of her security deposit. Having guests visit the house is always a welcomed part of many of our guests stay at the lake. The house comfortably sleeps 6, though it was never intended to accommodate the renters family and their entire baseball team and some of the parents. So yes, the tenant was charged $150.00 for the pet fee and $50.00 per hour for the extra charge from the cleaning crew due to late departure. In the end, the tenant was refunded $50.00 of her $300.00 security deposit. There was no threat not to post a review. I told tenant to do what she needed to do. I would not get into a verbal or texting argument. She would not stop texting me. ALSO, TENANT STAYED JUNE 19, 2016.
